yeah i should include more collars, but the problem with collar is that the original model has too little vertices near the neck area. changing it messes up uv and weighs. i've experimented with this method for the moment: and yeah i probably went overboard with the balaclava thing
-
yeah there are winter units along those lines. the ushanka and collar still need improvement: and thanks for the reference material.

if you are referring to the textures, you'll have to bear with me until there are 90s vsr pattern textures available for arma 2, as i don't know how to texture. the general look of the model is accurate as far as i'm aware. i got the od texture in game:

thanks opfor>russian army if you still can't find it, it's possible that you downloaded the combine operations version. i have updated my first post with a standalone version.

Will using a RAMDisk improve performance?
johncage replied to wingnut1186's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
all it does is pretty much make things load faster. it won't really change your fps if your specs are already high end like that. -
i don't think so.

hello. thanks for the response and reuploads. i didn't catch this earlier but apparently this works on combined operations only due to a mistake in the config.cpp. i edited the first post with a version that works on arma 2 standalone. and vilas, i will look into integrating more weapons and uniform texture variety down the line.

Sure, I appreciate any contributions.

the glaciers look very lifelike. it even has moraines coming down from the mountain slopes. -
Improvements I want, and maybe some other people but it's arrogant to assume...

i will try to include that variety as well. edit: some variety of soldiers, showcasing takistani helmet and muddy boot texture on rpk guy. also, the bloused boots on grenadier: sorry to the guy asking for ushanka, i couldn't make a convincing one with the helmet mesh. skullcap is possible. this is what i have for ushanka at the moment -
the 90s chechnya conflict is a good balance between new and old fashioned technology, and features asymmetric warfare against insurgents, including use of ieds. at the same time the chechnyans at various times also fielded vehicles comparable to their russian counterparts. the absence of americans might be a little off putting for some, but i think they can relate to themes like collateral damage and terrorism.

thanks for the helmet tip. as for removing the 6b5 altogether, that's part of the torso model i'm afraid. i can try reshaping the vertex and uv though, hopefully the results will be acceptable. yeah, those are just a few of the units. -

Unable to load multiple models
johncage replied to johncage's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : ADDONS - Configs & Scripting
nevermind, i got it to work. it seems you have to add new model entries at the bottom of the cfg. as far i as know, there's actually nothing wrong with the cfg itself. i hope. thanks for the help anyway. -

edit> I've pinpointed the issue. the game doesn't see to recognize all of the models in my addon folder. I can load all of the models just fine, but i need to swap their names to the first model in the folder. is there an entry i need to edit that allows the game to recognize all of the models? -

yes i'm using binpbo. the the log file doesn't say anything and the models are unbinarized. edit: is a model.cfg produced automatically from oxygen or do you have to write the whole thing by hand? i've read the apache tutorial and i'm still confused. does anyone have a soldier tutorial i can look at or an example file? -
you could just use the woodsmen/hunter models that are part of the chedaki faction. i think they represent the militia variety, civilian type troops fairly well.

most games have quite a short lod switch range, while this game uses the first lod levels for many of the objectives up to a distance of 60-70s meters. this is significantly more than say, call of duty, for example, which can switch lods from just 15 feet away. in dense forests, this is quite problematic. it's also difficult to get this game to run smoothly. playing at 40-50 frames per second can sometimes actually feel sluggish because one area can have very little detail and smoothly, yet another area may contain a forest or city. from a gameplay perspective, sudden changes in fps can produce a disconcerting effect. contrary to popular belief, this is not solved by turning on vertical synchronization. the game may be limited to a lower framerate, but can contrribute to significant performance degradation. i would suggest going towards a direction of innovating lod switch procedures and lod level optimization. there is no need for the lod switch to occur at 50 meters. at a distance of just 30 feet, you can hardly tell the difference between lod level 1 and lod level 2. lod level detail for non-descript objects could also be a little less detailed and use lower detailed lods. -

hi, the "eapons" thing is a carry over from a .cpp i reverse engineered. i don't think it causes any problems as both my mod and the source mod work fine with that apparent error. this is the model.cfg: http://pastebin.com/aHkrWmsz -
