WIP: Stuff you are working on 2!

hello, some renders of soviet-afghan war units: -
the i5/i7 series is notorious for producing unstable performance. that is, fps can vary so greatly that it feels like a slide show. one moment 100 fps, the next moment 20. use vsync to remedy this, but it does have a side effect of making the game sluggish.

TexView 2 error loading file?
johncage replied to GIAT industries's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MODELLING - (O2)
Hi, I just realized what the problem is. There are two different texview 2s. the old version from bistools 2 package, and the new version hosted on armaholic. the new version produces textures of uniform file size 2,731 kb for CO textures, while the old version produce textures of smaller, variable file sizes. The new version also cannot open files created by the older version, that is the reason behind error loading file messages for me(and maybe some others too). Does anyone know the difference between the two in terms of quality? I assume the new version produces better quality .paa because of the larger file sizes. -
the mopp gear looks nice, but shouldn't it be more like a jump suit? and the waist should be a bit thicker.

they look nice. i've also made some summer variations of afghan units with chicom vest to go along with the textures. -

i'm not sure if it's the effect of weighing or how the skeleton structure is naturally, but it seems his pelvic area is a bit off, like it's sunk in. everything else looks splendid. -
Trees makes this game unplayable
johncage replied to Treesmakemelag's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
well, no you can't really fix this. all you can do is turn down settings. the trees kill performance. this is the way the game is. sorry. -

TexView 2 error loading file?
johncage replied to GIAT industries's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MODELLING - (O2)
i've recently started getting errors like this for files that i could open before. i don't know what happened, but searching on google seems to indicate this is a problem for windows 7. could bis release a fix for this? thanks. also, i cannot save as tga in texview 2. so i saved as png instead. it seems right after this event the trouble began. -
probably not.

Hello, once again thank you for the mirror uploads and support. as to suggestions, yes i plan to expand on crew personnel and Vityaz. For replacements, i'll have to learn how to do them first.

Project Reality - WIP Discussion
johncage replied to craig.turner's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
from what i understand, the performance killers are the foliage that is littered throughout the place. it has a higher density and detail than on regular maps. just from my observation. -
What if CryEngine was used as Arma 3 future engine?
johncage replied to jonneymendoza's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
looks too good to be true. i remember when dragon rising first came out with the batch of target renders(the infamous artillery "gameplay"). the end product looked nothing like that. -
hi, an updated edition has been posted on first page.

Requesting painting weights tutorial for Arma 2
johncage replied to Reikso's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MODELLING - (O2)
is there a weight painting tutorial for oxygen 2? -
edit: good news. don't know why i didn't figure this out sooner. the various equipment hanging off the character's belt are all weighted to the pelvis so they can be used for magazine pouches pouches don't sink into the body anymore and i also made a pkm pouch for the machinegunner. http://img818.imageshack.us/img818/2313/pouch.jpg http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/4209/pouch2k.jpg

http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/3108/collare.jpg http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/1588/collarx.jpg i did a copy and paste job using the russian pilot texture. it still looks pretty bad up close. in the backview you can see the collar sort of clips into the back. anyone know how the weighing works in oxygen 2? i just see a bunch of percentages.

thanks. some of those jackets are huge.

arma 2/oa is pretty much unplayable below 30 fps for me. this is strange because i used to have a crappy computer that runs this game at 10-20 fps average and it actually felt a bit smoother. very strange arma 2 or i7 phenomenon. i have no such issue with other games, only arma 2. using vsync mitigates the problem slightly.
