True, hands on moderation is a key here IMHO.
  2. Why not do so yourself? We have quite a bit on our heads. If you do your mod might get incorporated into CUP.

Having a hands on moderation by BIS for the monetized mods is actually pretty good idea. Some kind of official seal of approval with lets the mod maker monetize the mod that has been positivity verified by BIS (ie. works, no IP infringement or any issues with permissions, drama and such). Such system would be best as a starting point as it would weed out any nasties trying to make a quick buck. It could be made a bit more liberal as the time progressed. Such system for servers would also be a pretty decent solution. Also, stop downplaying the Skyrim paid modding dumpster fire, it was a total failure, but not taking lessons out of that is just stupid.
  4. Single fire CM is an ACE feature. Good one, but all of the vanilla vehicles use burst mode AFAIK,
  5. Is it disabled? For what vehicles? Not all helicopters or aircraft have CM in real life.
  6. 1. No, but germany BLUFOR faction has it. 2. Not a bad idea actually. I'll see what can be done about this one.

What kind of protection do you expect? It is already well established that stealing someone's addons is a no-no, yet people do that, despite the fact all is free (why take credit for someone else's work then?). CUP has licence with forbids monetization, yet some dipshits still set up servers with CUP stuff as "donation rewards", despite the fact they cannot do that, yet often BI have to step in and axe the whole thing. All of this is happening even if there is no real money in mods. When greedy dickwads will smell gold in them hills things will turn into shit fast. I don't want to browse mods section and have it look like a mobile game where everything extra has a price tag attached no matter how shitty the mod is. Why turn mods into micro transactions? Also notice the issues for BIS: what about mods like Operation Trebuchet? They wont be able to monetize despite massive amount of work thy put into that. Why? They use the Halo IP and if money is involved the right holders HAVE to take action if someone is infringing on their rights, otherwise they risk others following and not being able to get them into court. There was a great mod in the making for the Skyrim based on Lord of the Rings, but the right holders issued a DMCA. It was years before paid modding was a thing for Skyrim. Modding was, is and, hopefully will be, a grey area. This means we can get away with quite a lot of bullshit and copyright infringement, since mods aren't sold as a product. Imagine if Microsoft stepped in and axed the OpTre because they learned about paid modding in Arma. They won't care if mod is monetised, for them OpTre can be put on sale any time, better to play safe, just DMCA and protect their IP, . Also BIS would have to do some hands on moderation with always means more costs. What if some company decides to sue because of IP infringement? Who will they sue? BIS? Modder? Moderators for letting the mod in? We have a pretty decent thing going, don't rock the boat in the name of measly couple of bucks. Is that how much you are willing to sell out the whole thing for?

Oh boy you are wrong. If money is on the table it only makes things worse. All the 14yo and other dickheads will think that they can take the old mods, cut them up and sell apart. Or take some shitty CoD ripped gun model, do a hackjob to get it into arma and then sell it. Just look at steam greenlight or the kickstarter. Some succeeded, but overwhelming majority of the products are complete shit AND PEOPLE PAY FOR IT REGARDLESS. Just look at the unity asset flips in the greenlight section.

I've been there in the trenches and I'm still active in Skyrim's modding. The community actually came out pretty well. Chesko (the guy that did the fishing mod) retired briefly, but returned to Skyrim's modding and people seem to made up after the whole fiasco. ATM its business as usual, the FO4 modding kinda fizzled out, most likely due to Beth releasing the tools rather late, and the Skyrim Special Edition means a lot of mods get some new attention due to ports and such. As for opinions: opinions are like ass-holes, everybody has one and everyone's smells . I have nothing against patreon or some tip jar. Charging for mods like products is different ball game though. It's a Pandora's box I do not wish to see opened in any community.

Because they do stuff for free, out of passion, and share it, so others can also enjoy? Because modding communities are pretty much universally good environments where you can find help and make first steps in stuff like coding and digital graphics? Because modders for the most part are good blokes that tend to help others in modding? Because mods fix and improve games? Paid modding is a giant pile of crap, example: the raging dumbster fire that was paid modding for Skyrim. If you want modding monetization DO NOT INTRODUCE IT INTO LONG STANDING, ESTABLISHED COMMUNITY IN MIDDLE OF THE GAMES LIFE! GabeN said they shouldn't have done that with Skyrim. I do not want to see a good thing getting destroyed just in the name of few bucks.

Of course not, but, for me, selling them is equivalent of shitting on a dinner table.

"I want to shit on our dining table!" "You cannot shit on the dining table." "Why?" "Because it will stink and we wont be able to use our dining table." "But I really need to void my bowels right now!" "No." "WHY DO YOU TAKE AWAY MY RIGHT TO SHIT ON OUR DINING TABLE!?"

Modding requires very similar or mostly the same skills as the game development so its not like I look at it as something not worth the label of job. I simply don't want to see the communities go out in a massive orgy of greed, selfishness and dickery. You may say that I have very low opinion on the community if I think like that, but money changes the rules so much its not even funny.
  15. Applied the new dust to other variants of the M113.

Why do people want to forcibly make me happy? I do NOT want to be able to sell my mods, not that I don't want to even if I have the option. I do not even want the the ability to do that. Why? Because such thing would destroy the environment I adore and make me go do something else knowing that the beautiful thing was destroyed, stomped into the ground and then set on fire, all in the name of money. As for open source: does anyone force you to release mods? I don't think so. If you release them you must be aware that at some point someone will pick up your work and do his own stuff based off it. Personally I release all my mods in a spirit of cooperation. What is the point of me sitting on top of a model I made or something like that. I fully realise that there are people that might pick up my stuff and change in a way I never even thought possible. This means my works continues on in form of some other mod. I'm actually happy when that happens. In the end people should strive not to be massive dicks toward each other. Money completely prevents that.
  17. After looking up some photos I noticed that its always more dust than mud on the vehicles. So I went back to M113 and put nice dirt coming from the bottom leaving the topside pretty clean. I left some of the thicker mud and stuff just for added depth. Looks pretty well.
  18. setidentity You can also use the arsenal to get the classnames for the faces and stuff with you can export to clipboard and then paste into a unit init.
  19. Damn, I was working on M113, but I think my GPU might be dying on me, with sucks. GPU died, fortunately I found my old one laying around, it was enough to pull all the programs. So, I learned a new way of setting up the grunge generators with allowed me to put nice long scratches on the sides with look like they were made by foliage brushing the sides, while the top is pretty clean. In the end the scratches look more natural, not like someone poured acid over the whole thing. I also toned down the poop mud while still keeping the front nice and dirty with much less on the back. Still trying to find the fine balance for the dirt & mud. However, the current scratches look much better then before.
  20. All jokes aside, I figured out how to set up dirt that is coming from the from with less of it in the back. Those screens were just from the phase of testing extreme values (without making the whole thing caked in shit mud).
  21. I know . Well, everybody has their own fetishes, I do not judge .
  22. There! Is it sufficiently dirty now?! ARE YOU ENTERTAINED?! Just messing around with settings, experimenting and such. Those bumps you mentioned: its actually dirt chunks that have bump map, they are actually dirt colored though, only screenshots don't catch it very well. The normal maps, and all other maps, are actually automatically generated along with the texture so everything matches how each map should look. I do agree that I didn't put enough weathering, working on that ATM. Thanks for the feedback.
  23. This exactly what I did, the wheels and stuff were copied from the A2 UN texture. Anyway, I do not want to mess around with AS maps as they do work fine for the woodland and desert variant, I will just make the UN variant darker. All of the weathering is done using SP2, so there isn't any mismatch really.

You guys may not realise, but there is actually a marketplace where people can share their work for money if people are willing to pay. Its called: Steam Greenlight. Its a fucking cesspool of greed, low effort work for a quick buck and full of greedy dicks that will lie, cheat just to get some moneiez.
