Does Pakistan really have what it takes to fight the US?
PELHAM replied to darkxess's topic in OFFTOPIC
Yes they were in the Mujahideen but you said the US created and funded the Taliban - EVIDENCE PLEASE? Please read up on this - you are confusing two different things that ocurred decades apart. -

The US has never funded the Taliban - they funded the Mujahideen that fought against the Russians. The Taliban were largely created and funded by the Pakistani ISI. Please read up on this - you are confusing two different things that ocurred decades apart. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taliban%27s_rise_to_power -
No it isn't - go to the website listed at the end of each film: Video Store of Playstation Store Choose from the latest blockbusters or all time classics Watch in SD or stunning 1080p HD No subscription. No late fees. Rent or buy from as little as £1.99/€1.99 It's viral advertising - there is nothing on that page about technology or holograms. There is no mention of holograms in the films either.

As long as the war continues we give them billions of dollars each year in aid. Funding the Taliban doesn't cost much at all. The rest can be pocketed. Has anyone asked them for any receipts? The Pakistani government and military are making a tidy profit out of all this - they are corrupt to the core. They have allowed 1000s of their own people to cross the border and die in Afghanistan, all for money, sickening isn't it. They did the same thing with the Russians, no one asked for receipts back then either. -
Usual nonsense, nothing to do with holograms, it's blue/green screen special effects, don't bother going to greatfilmsfillrooms.com there isn't anything there, it's just an advert for Sony Playstation, Playstation Store DVD's. It's a viral advertising campaign. §4) Advertising commercial products Do not advertise any commercial products other than those of BIS/BIA on the forums without prior BIS/BIA approval.

Red Cross wants war themed video games to abide by Geneva Conventions.
PELHAM replied to BF2_Trooper's topic in OFFTOPIC
Anyone want to start work on the ICRC Mod? lol Red Cross faction: No guns, lots of air miles, private jets, conferences, gold plated pensions, your most effective weapon is a hotline to the press. You cannot be harmed as your brain is stored in an alternate reality. Mission - criticise any western country, if hotheads like the Taliban step over the line, break the law or murder your staff, teleport by map click back to head office where you can hide under the desk. Bonus points for silly ideas that keep your organisations name in the headlines. Western Forces Faction: You have guns but can't use them, if you use them and something goes wrong your PC will be locked for 10 years, hide in a base while the enemy shoots at you. Mission - hunt down some bad guys, lose 1000s of men and spend billions of $ as you can't fight effectively because of all the red tape, end up in jail because someone shot the wrong target and the press found out. No one will say thank you for putting your ass on the line. Insurgents Faction: Have guns, shoot whoever you like, do whatever you like. Honestly, you can get away with anything as no one will report or criticise anything you do. Take refuge in a dodgy neighbouring country who will shelter, fund and arm you. International law will keep you safe from harm. Mission - Plant some IEDS, assassinate a politician, stone some women to death, summary executions, bonus for human rights violations, convince some dumb kid to blow himself up, run back across the border to safety. -
Well said!

PELHAM replied to BF2_Trooper's topic in OFFTOPIC
What you need to do is go to wikipedia and actually READ the Geneva conventions. You will swiftly come to the conclusion that in Arma2 OA it would not universally apply to all factions. As in real life it does not apply to terrorists or if the opposing side does not apply the conventions itself. The ICRCs statements on the universal application of the conventions in real life or in games do not have any legal basis. They base their argument on an emotional view not a logical or legal view. Treaties, like the Geneva Convention, are more like commercial contracts in that they are traditionally viewed as binding only among their parties. The ICRC has demanded mandatory application of the Geneva Conventions "wherever a situation of violence reaches the level of an armed conflict." They obviously want that to extend to the portrayal of war in video games. However that viewpoint is completely fictional. The ICRC has no legal basis in reality or simulation for their ideas. The Geneva conventions are an international agreement, they are not a form of customary international law. Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, the ICRC and many others quote them as if they are a form of universal international law. That simply is not a valid legal argument. Read the first few lines of the 1949 document: Article 1. The High Contracting Parties undertake to respect and to ensure respect for the present Convention in all circumstances. Article 2. In addition to the provisions which shall be implemented in peacetime, the present Convention shall apply to all cases of declared war or of any other armed conflict which may arise between two or more of the High Contracting Parties, even if the state of war is not recognized by one of them. The Convention shall also apply to all cases of partial or total occupation of the territory of a High Contracting Party, even if the said occupation meets with no armed resistance. "Contracting Parties" - nuff said. Well the Geneva convention probably would not apply in any game as the parties have not signed it. If you were to program a signing ceremony, it could be argued that the treaty was signed under duress. RE the Dead - Article 17 of the 1949 convention deals with the treatment of the dead. As Zombies or the undead are not mentioned I would say they are not protected by it lol. -
MV22 Door Gunner Project
PELHAM replied to hcpookie's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Great addon! If someone could fix the MV-22 flight model that would be great too! The very slow rotation in the hover has always annoyed me. I'm using the 1.60RC is it me or have things changed slightly? Autohover does not work and you have to set the engine position manually on the MV-22, F-35 and AV-8B? -
Interesting info, If you look at all the above ground facilities that are mentioned in previous reports they are all abandoned or demolished. The areas where they used to park the mobile missile launchers are just faint outlines now.

Does Pakistan really have what it takes to fight the US?
PELHAM replied to darkxess's topic in OFFTOPIC
Can Pakistan be a force against the US - No. Complaining about their 24 troops? What about their covert support for the Taliban for the last 10 years? 2,744 coalition deaths in Afghanistan, that includes 1,774 US deaths. All the command & control, training, funding and arming of the Taliban occurs in Pakistan. They like to talk big but it's all show and they are just as corrupt and dishonest as many of their neighbours and allies. -
If they actually have the UAV - no pictures yet? China and Russia will be given full access and samples as happened with the stealth helicopter that crashed in Pakistan. China has close ties with Pakistan and Iran. (China covertly tested Pakistan's nuclear bombs at Lop Nor.) Iranian UAV? Try spotter plane with hand held camera in the Straight of Hormuz. When in the straight and passing through the islands the ships are in Iranian controlled waters and airspace. There is nothing they can do about Iranian overflights under those circumstances. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strait_of_Hormuz The flying wings were developed back then but were never used because they didn't have the technology for efficient control - fly-by-wire. Aerodynamic principles have not changed. It's said that a very old Jack Northrop was given a covert tour of the B2 just before he died so he could see that his ideas for flying wings were now useful.

RQ-170? Now that's juicy! It's in the Wall St. Journal too: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204770404577078160095550518.html This UAV is probably semi-autonomous. I'm not sure I believe the story about hacking it but software glitches do happen. No doubt the damn thing lost contact and landed itself at the wrong airport lol. They don't have to be flown minute by minute by human control. Or it probably ran out of fuel and coasted to the ground. Hope to see the pictures soon.
-
RQ-10 eh? So exactly what is that then, can't find it in the US inventory? Iran has claimed to shoot down drones before but has never provided any evidence so examine this latest 'victory' with your BSometer and wait till they show proof.

PELHAM replied to walker's topic in OFFTOPIC
So after a week you still have no idea how it works? Light must be refracted to form an image, ye cannae change the laws o' physics, Walker. Thank you for that pdf, it was an interesting read and confirms everything I have already said. Can I refer you to figure 2 on page 80 which depicts a schematic of infrared up-conversion imaging system? It uses no less than 2 sets of imaging optics (COMMONLY KNOWN AS LENSES!) 1 in front of the IR converter to focus the IR light then 1 after the converter to focus the visible light from the OLED. Your statement that "It raises the energy level of input photons to visible light." is false and is not possible. Read it again please. It converts by: 1)Absorbing IR light 2)Creating electrons from the energy of the absorbed IR photons 3)The OLED, powered by those electrons, emits visible light IT DOES NOT CONVERT IR PHOTONS DIRECTLY INTO VISIBLE PHOTONS! Sorry for the capitals but you repeatedly fail to grasp this simple fact. It's an indirect process. You have misunderstood the part referring to energy levels - "To meet energy conversation law, infrared photons need to gain extra energy to convert to higher frequencies. For up-conversion devices those are biased, the extra energy is provided by the applied electric field. For passive up-converters, the general approach is to convert two or several infrared photons to one photon." (There is a typo in there - 'energy conversation law' should be 'energy conservation law' :D) What that means is the existing IR photons do not have the required energy for 1-1 conversion to excite the absorption layer into producing electrons that in turn produce visible photon emissions in the OLED. Again I say it - the IR photons do not magically become visible, you cannot convert photons directly and you need lenses to create images. Look up the law of energy conservation and you will gain a greater insight into exactly what they are talking about RE the energy to produce the visible light emissions. That paper also describes several different systems - your OP was about the passive system. If it works it's a breakthrough because the layers he has developed do not require additional energy to produce the electrons for the OLED. One thing to be aware of is that the device we are discussing does not work with the full IR spectrum, just the near infra-red (NIR) -

Well there is a solution.......we could all play as Insurgents. Then we could kill whoever we like, blow up civilians and not pay the slightest attention to International Humanitarian Law or Law of Armed Conflict (LOAC) and no one would mind would they? I have just searched the ICRC archives for 'Taliban'. Going back 10 years there are about 5 instances of the ICRC reminding the Taliban of it's obligations and 1 instance of direct complaint over the looting of ICRC vehicles and equipment. The ICRC delegates seem to spend all their time criticising and reminding NATO and the Afghan authorities of their obligations under international humanitarian law concerning the treatment of prisoners, care for the wounded and protection of the civilian population. They conveniently ignore Pakistan's role and the Taliban. It's quite laughable to read that the ICRC and Taliban leadership have frequently come to some sort of gentleman's agreement: "It was agreed with the Taliban leadership that it was no longer safe for ICRC expatriate staff to operate in Taliban controlled areas." Oh well, glad you came to a nice understanding that any foreign looking ICRC staff member would get their head lopped off if they happened to be caught in the wrong place. They do much good work in very dangerous situations and that should be applauded. This silly 'criticising only when we can get away with it' policy makes the whole organisation look partisan and more than a little stupid. ---------- Post added at 01:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:05 PM ---------- I like the inclusion of ambulances - we can simulate real life and use them to transport armed men and military equipment in safety on the battlefield :D: VIDEO REMOVED -
Nice post jblackrupert - they tried all this nonsense back in the 60's and discovered it didn't work. If everyone has a voice and everyone's opinion has to be heard and if every decision has to be based on those views and opinions nothing ever gets done. Some great Monty Python sketches are based on it. They debate between the peoples front members in the Life of Brian is a classic. hUBAx8jbYNs

Just to clarify: Iranian-assisted Hizbollah fighters launched three Iranian versions of the Chinese C-802 (Noor) radar-guided cruise missiles. One hit the Hanit, another overshot its target and sunk a Cambodian-flagged merchant ship some 60 kilometers away, and another apparently exploded upon launch. (I suppose 1 out of 3 ain't bad lol). The missile that struck the Hanit actually exploded after hitting a railing at the rear of the ship and did not penetrate the aft deck. According to naval officials here, the impact destroyed the aft electrical switchboard and caused extensive fire damage, but the ship used its forward electrical power source to return to port. After 10 days of extensive repairs, the Hanit returned to full operational deployment.

Anyone noticed that these blue roofed buildings can also be seen all over the desert areas in the 'what's china up to' thread? Is it a common design of some sort?
-
I agree, it's not just the time wasted exposing it, it's base deceit and threads like this seek to play upon others feelings, it's a con trick, to what gain I'm not sure.

Arma 2:OA 1.60 Release Candidate
PELHAM replied to maruk's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
It works because the beta patch does not install ontop of your game. The beta patch is like an addon - it has a separate folder and is started with a separate shortcut. Copying the dll folder worked for me - just tested it on the server with and without. Problem solved! -

PELHAM replied to maruk's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
Er I think they mean the beta folder that is created when you use one of BIS's test beta patches. You know, all the test beta patches that were released prior to 1.60RC? Download the latest beta from here (86873): http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php Install it and you should find the dll folder at: Arma2/Expansions/beta/dll I think you then copy that dll folder into the main Arma2 directory or use the -mod line someone suggested previous page. Just going to try this myself. Installing a beta does not do anything to the game and I have never had a problem. You only run it when using the beta patch shortcut in the Arma2 directory. DWARDEN - it might be an idea to get a download link for the dll folder set up for people who are nervous about installing beta patches? Maybe Foxhound would be willing to host it at Armaholic or something? -

Great work BIS! We just tried it on a friends server with the latest OA Domination map. Game play is much improved, awsome!, no warping, improved AI responses, multiplayer is cool but noticed 2 things: 1) When running or driving a vehicle we get momentary pauses in the game every 5 seconds or so. Sometimes stops when on foot, very noticeable when in vehicle. 2) On the Domination wounded cam, the player being viewed suffers from extreme warping (stuttering movement). Not sure if this is related to Domination or 1.60? I had CBA running, no other addons used. Windows dedicated server. -

Hope it's not retrospective - I killed lots of civilians testing some game addons so I guess it's off to the Hague for me! :o Luckily no one saw it - I was in SP. Have they given up trying to get it implemented in real life? Much of the world ignores it routinely. I guess once they get this law passed it will stop all those rogue armies rampaging across central Africa from commiting war crimes? If they have to play GC FPS on their PC's they will no doubt stop what they are doing lol. Bat shit is right! -
