Saudi Arabia threatens to 'go nuclear' if Iran gets the bomb.
PELHAM replied to eble's topic in OFFTOPIC
It would have to be Pakistan - All the others except India and North Korea have signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty so it would be illegal to supply them. Technically it would be illegal for Saudi to buy them because it is also a signatory but all they have to do is give 90 days notice to leave due to the security threat and that would be that. It's possible they might allow a US missile base to be built on Saudi soil (similar to existing NATO sharing agreements) but that has huge political consequences locally and internationally. -
1. Pushed out of a boat in the Chilean archipelago. Returning to an island camp by boat late one night and enjoying watching dolphins surrounded by phosphorescent algae in the inky blackness . A friend, a bit worse for wear from drink decided to push me out of the boat for a laugh. He didn't realise we were near the front and that I would have been chopped to pieces by the spinning propeller. Last second I just managed to get one hand hold on the side and it took a year for the boat to stop and for them to haul me aboard. My sudden ex-friend had his near death experience when we got to shore at the hands of yours truly and a camp waste pit (food and slops, not poo). I let go when the bubbles got less intense and the legs and arms got frantic. And people said I over reacted!!?? 2. Nearly eaten by lions. In a game park in South Africa I was taking pictures of some lions stalking Zebra right next to the car when they did the usual inconvenient thing and moved to the rear so my photos would have to be taken through the back windscreen. Wanting to get that perfect shot, instead of moving the car, I rolled down the window and leaned out to face the rear. I heard some heavy breathing to my left and there was a scruffy young male Lion about 10ft away looking a bit confused and bobbing from side to side trying to get a better view of me. I'm not sure he had much experience of dragging tourists from car windows and was the back marker for the rest of the pride. Well I was back in the car in a split second doing the fastest window roll up you have ever seen. If he had managed to get hold of me, the others were only 50 yards further down the road. That would have been a rather nasty way to go.

How do I rapify???
PELHAM replied to BelgarionNL's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Not sure if you did that correctly? A rapify option appears if you right click on a file in the eliteness window. In Domination as far as I am aware only the mission.sqm is rapified, not the whole mission folder. -
Memory flush command?
PELHAM replied to ZZEZ's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
What occurs to alert you to the fact you need to do this? I have experienced all sorts of screen artifacts, texture loading problems and crashes. Most of which are cured by the latest beta patches but I have typed this in desperation many times. -
Iran to make major nuclear announcement within days, Ahmadinejad says
PELHAM replied to eble's topic in OFFTOPIC
The rumours about his ancestry are true? Kabooom lol Anyone have a seismograph? Maybe the earth will move for a lot of people on Valentines day? Who knows? Another interesting snippet is they cut off the internet yesterday. The previous day all sites using the HTTPS Protocol were blocked. Millions of Iranians are without access to email, electronic banking services and the web. The Government are denying it but some think it's the start of the long promised North Korean style Iran Intranet. They want to cut the population off from any external information sources. -
Saudi Arabia threatens to 'go nuclear' if Iran gets the bomb.
PELHAM replied to eble's topic in OFFTOPIC
That is something that crossed my mind but I didn't want to suggest it first. Nuclear weapons obviously need a specific kind of knowledge regarding safe storage, handling and maintenance. Doubly so when attached to a missile that needs very specific care of it's own and Plutonium itself is Pyrophoric, (spontaneously combusts in air). I was reminded of a tale from Gulf War 1 where Saudi Tanks went rushing up towards the Iraqi border and promptly broke down and wouldn't start. Some US armoured troops happened to be passing and eventually discovered the engine air filters were completely clogged with dust and sand. The filters had never been changed and the troops didn't know how, lack of training. I don't know if things are still that bad but lets hope Saudi nuclear technicians will have better training. Nuclear accidents are a fascinating read BTW: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SL-1 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anatoli_Bugorski http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokaimura_nuclear_accident http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1968_Thule_Air_Base_B-52_crash http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyshtym_Disaster -
Thanks for clearing that up, I got the notion from the Six Config Browser which lists displayName as other things. I will have to dePBO the CfgVehicles next.
-
typeOf _target returns the classname of the object to which the addaction is on. eg US_Soldier_Engineer_EP1 I think 'engineer' refers to the Displayname in the config but I was going to test that when I had a moment. If that is so, in theory that line would work for any soldier with the Displayname 'engineer'. The PMC engineer is called a 'Field Technician' so it wouldn't work for that. Have a look at the Displaynames in the Six Config Browser, 3rd link below and try changing them and add the action to the corresponding unit placed in the editor? You may have to change _target to player to get it to work, not sure. typrOf: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/typeOf http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Category:Scripting_Commands_ArmA2 Full cfgVehicles for Class men is here: =faction&options[sort_by]=name&options[faction]=&options[vehicleclass]=Men"]http://browser.dev-heaven.net/cfg_vehicles/classlist?version=58&commit=Change&options[group_by]=faction&options[sort_by]=name&options[faction]=&options[vehicleclass]=Men eg spotter: http://browser.dev-heaven.net/cfg_vehicles/show/1489204

Saudi Arabia threatens to 'go nuclear' if Iran gets the bomb.
PELHAM replied to eble's topic in OFFTOPIC
It's deeper than that, with nuclear weapons Iran could successfully blockade the Gulf. If Saudi also has nuclear weapons they could push back conventionally with less fear of a nuclear attack as they could respond in a similar way. Nothing about it is good for oil prices. It's not just Israel that is troubled about the Iranian nuclear weapons program, it affects everyone in the region. When Iran was threatening to blockade the Straits of Hormuz last month, King Fahd looked most unhappy about it. You may remember there was a round of state visits at the time, it was cover for policy and war planning. -

PELHAM replied to eble's topic in OFFTOPIC
Hmmm Pakistan spreading nuclear weapons technology again? That's how Iran got started on a weapons program in the first place along with Iraq, Libya and North Korea. Oh well at least someone will be getting rich out of all this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdul_Qadeer_Khan#North_Korea_and_Iran -
:popcornsmilie: hmmmm.......... 7+ days of food? Or is it combined with guns and ammo. I have 14+ days of food, should I turn myself in?

visibleGPS?
PELHAM replied to Double Doppler's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
I did a map about a year ago with a custom video that played in the GPS. You might be able to find something in this function file, I spent a few hours trying to force the GPS to display without the player having to press ctrl+M but didn't have any luck, not sure if it's any easier detecting if it's open either: -
There is still something wrong with it though, any idea what it is? cursorTarget isKindOf 'car' on it's own does not work in my example if you remove the 2nd part, || cursorTarget isKindOf 'car' cursorTarget isKindOf 'Air' || cursorTarget isKindOf 'car' it stops working, baffling but true.
-
Ignore my 1st solution it doesn't work due to class mismatch and other things - will have another look at it. This works though: Thanks Mondkalb and well spotted Muzzleflash: man1 addAction [("<t color=""#FF3300"">" + ("Repair Land vehicle") +"</t>"), "repair_vehicle2.sqf", [], 0, true, true, "","getNumber (configFile >> 'cfgVehicles' >> typeOf _target >> 'engineer') == 1 && cursorTarget isKindOf 'landvehicle' || cursorTarget isKindOf 'car' && (_target distance cursorTarget) < 2 && damage cursorTarget >= 0.2"]; man1 addAction [("<t color=""#FF3300"">" + ("Repair Air vehicle") +"</t>"), "repair_vehicle2.sqf", [], 0, true, true, "","getNumber (configFile >> 'cfgVehicles' >> typeOf _target >> 'engineer') == 1 && cursorTarget isKindOf 'air' || cursorTarget isKindOf 'car' && (_target distance cursorTarget) < 2 && damage cursorTarget >= 0.2"]; These addActions have to be attached to the engineer called man1 for the _target variable to work. Changed it so it triggers to fix any land or air vehicle. Distance changed to 2. Edit - it only partially works, the distance and damage checks don't work.
-
Untested but I came up with this: private ["_fixact","_nObjects","_nVeh"]; if (vehicle player isKindOf "USMC_SoldierS_Engineer" || vehicle player isKindOf"US_Soldier_Engineer_EP1" || vehicle player isKindOf "BAF_Soldier_EN_MTP") then { while {alive player} do { _nObjects = nearestObjects [player, ["vehicles"], 10]; _nVeh = nearestObject [player, _nObjects]; sleep 1; }; if ((damage _nVeh)>0.2) then { _fixAct = _nVeh addAction [("<t color=""#FF3300"">" + ("Repair Vehicle") +"</t>"), "repair_vehicle.sqf", [], 0, false, true]; hint "Nearest vehicle is damaged"; }; waitUntil {not alive player || (damage _nVeh)==0 || (player distance _nVeh)>10}; _nVeh removeAction _fixAct; }; EDIT: DOESNT WORK - class and logic incorrect.

Quick mission template?

Yes it saves it to a text file so you can reload the settings. -
Quick mission template?
PELHAM replied to Gameqb11's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
It is a normal mission not a template. Ky was solving the semi-random start position with the grouped markers. To do what you want to do use the mcc-sandbox, it lets you spawn and alter all sorts of things while in mission and can be used in multiplayer: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=15546&highlight=SANDBOX -

PELHAM replied to Tankbuster's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
So the options for this are: Use MPF (very carefully) Use CBA (if SB falls under a bus tomorrow can he name a successor in a will?) Make your own system (if you have the skills, I don't) Before I choose one, does anyone know if this rather awkward MP situation will change with Arma3? -
There was a report in our news that caught my eye: Obama - "I deserve a 2nd Term in office" http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-16913174 Not that I care either way but what an odd thing to say? Usually it's the voters who decide who is the most deserving. I would find it hard to vote for someone who tells me he is the most deserving.

Fire Strike 7/9 by Damien Lewis The story of JTAC Paul Grahame's 6 month tour in Helmand, Afghanistan. One of those books you just can't put down. The JTAC is in a unique position. He is at a crux between the ordinary soldier, the officers, air assets and high command. I can't think of anyone who has a better view of the battlefield. Engaged by Taliban artillery, ambushed many times, includes the rare use of 'Broken Arrow' protocols. His story about battling a severe case of diarrhoea when a female Sky journalist sits down beside him in the communal toilet is a classic. There is a great deal of 'idea material' in here for mission makers. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fire-Strike-7-Paul-Grahame/dp/0091938066 Desert of Death by Leo Docherty Worth reading for an opposing view is the tale of Captain Docherty. Docherty is a linguist and performs interpreting and liaison tasks in Helmand in 2006, spending much time with Afghan locals. I'm not sure I agree with everything he thinks but much of it is valid, he appears very bitter about his experiences. He takes a particularly narrow view and excludes the drug business/international element in the whole Afghan problem. The book could have had more content and seems to reach an abrupt conclusion. Worth the read though as books like Fire Strike 7/9 are just a tad too army PC. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Desert-Death-Soldiers-Journey-Afghanistan/dp/057123688X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1328548291&sr=1-1

Until you can comprehend what you read and actually understand some basic science I can't enlighten you further about anything much. Your premise that life could be based on large, highly unstable, radioactive elements that can only exist under specific circumstances for a few seconds or milliseconds, perhaps only in nature near stellar cores, is rather bizarre. Your video of Dr Kaku is about the field of theoretical physics and interplanitary communication not evolution or alien life, so your references are also irrelevant to the discussion at hand. So I can't even be certain you understand your own argument. Feel free to reply, I have better things to do like play Arma 2 and will not be responding further.

1. I was talking about basic biochemistry. 2. There is no such thing as an infinite number of environments, particularly if we are talking about where life can evolve. 3. I'm not particularly interested in the sci-fi field of imaginary monsters. If you want to talk science and sense I will respond, if not......

If you read back I was saying the evolution of life is tied to stellar and planetary evolution because only hydrogen was available after the big bang. The heavier elements had to be created using nuclear fusion in stars, then planetary formation, time to allow radioactive decay etc. Go and look at the periodic table and basic biochemistry - you will note that there are few building blocks available and generally they only fit together a certain way. While you can't predict how many legs or eyes an organism will have, there are not an infinite number of options for basic biochemistry, so you can predict that limited range. Dark matter/dark energy/environmental condition after the big bang aren't really relevant to what I was discussing..
