  1. The first post at the top of this thread lists confirmed features. I note there is only 1 machine gun. Surely the different factions would use different weapons. Which begs the question: Will the weapons available in the editor, include any that are not used in the official scenarios? .

    Issue updating Arma2 reinf

Stupid me, stupid me stupid stupid me. Yeah! Stupid me, stupid me stupid stupid me. Yeah! Stupid me, stupid me stupid stupid me. Yeah! The most stupid part of my Arma 2 life is reading the information! The Arma 2: Private Military Company is the addon for Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead and/or Arma 2: Combined Operations. It cannot be played seperately and does require the original game in order to be played The Arma 2: British Armed Forces is the addon for Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead and/or Arma 2: Combined Operations. It cannot be played seperately and does require the original game in order to be played. Arma 2: Reinforcements brings to the Armaversum two new factions - Her Majesty's Armed Forces and private contractors. Play it separately or combine with original Arma 2: Combined Operations for ultimate military combat experience. Actually, BAF and PMC originally were both add-ons to Operation Arrowhead. Afterwards they were merged into one DVD, named Reinforcements, I expect to increase sales. Mysteriously I missed the point the Reinforcements became a stand alone game! OOOOOOPS! .

    Issue updating Arma2 reinf

Arma 2: Reinforcements is not a stand alone game. Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead is a stand alone game. Arma 2: Reinforcements is an add-on to Operation Arrowhead. You should first install Operation Arrowhead. . .

were do i find the final 1.01

There is a website: www.arma2.com The patches are found there. The latest patch is 1.11 The blurb says this is an update from 1.05 So you should start by installing 1.05. Unfortunately 1.05 is not included on that page. Instead there is a patch 1.09 described as "This is the official update from 1.00 to 1.09". So, install patch 1.09 and then install patch 1.11. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Somebody smarter than me, in another thread, said there is a "best" way to install the patches. Install the game. Run a scenario for a few seconds so it writes to the Windows registry. Install patch 1.09. Run a scenario for a few seconds so it writes to the Windows registry. Install patch 1.11 . . .
  7. In the editor, currently you can assign any weapon to a soldier. Imagine if you could create a list of say 6 weapons. Whever the scenario starts the soldier selects one of those at random. Everytime you play that scenario, friendly soldiers and enemy soldiers have different weapons. Which means the scenario plays out differently every time. . .

How can I make 3 posts in a row and have them appear as 3 posts? .
  9. This is a very basic classic style hex based wargame. DETAILS The game is very simple. It is a joy to play a simple game! A very cheap wargame. Small file so that the download is very quick. Turn based hex based wargame Opponents: AI, PBEM, Hotseat The AI is very good because the game is simple. Requires Low system specs: I run the game on my netbook. There are 42 scenarios The scenarios are set on the Western front, Eastern front, North Africa, Italy and the Pacific. The scenarios range in size from 7 turns to 60 turns. Some are listed below. The units are mostly company sized (3 platoons). Some units are only 2 platoons or one platoon in strength. Each green spot on the counter represents one platoon. Note the number of green spots on the next screen shot http://users.tpg.com.au/sueyoo//CCME03.jpeg > 100 KB Each hex is about 500 meters across. The map sizes of the different scenarios range from 30 X 25 hexes up to 100 x 75 hexes. There are 3 zoom levels http://users.tpg.com.au/sueyoo//CCME04.jpeg > 100 KB http://users.tpg.com.au/sueyoo//CCME05.jpeg > 100 KB http://users.tpg.com.au/sueyoo//CCME06.jpeg > 100 KB COMMAND It is called “Combat Command†due to the way the command system works. In the next screenshot, I have set up a scenario. Four US units are about to attack a German unit. http://users.tpg.com.au/sueyoo//CCME07.jpeg > 100 KB Note that 2 of the US units are from one regiment and the other 2 are from a second regiment. Let’s assume their attack values total 200 points and the defense value is 50. In a traditional wargame you would attack at odds of 4-1. The US units are under different regimental commanders so, unlike a traditional wargame, you must put in 2 attacks each of 2-1. Yes you can change the command structure. So, during the turn, you choose to change the command so that all 4 units are now under the same command. In fact it does not happen straight away. The change of command takes effect at the start of the next turn. So the player has a choice: 2 attacks each at 2-1 this turn or one attack at 4-1 the following turn. In the same manner, artillery can be attached to HQ units and then they too can be included in any attacks. Notice in the combat screen we have units from both divisions together with their divisional artillery. Note also the combat dice is a 10 sided dice http://users.tpg.com.au/sueyoo//CCME08.jpeg > 100 KB In this case we elected to use units of the 2nd Division together with their artillery and some off board air support.
  10. SUPPLY A unit traces a supply line to its Battalion HQ, which traces supply to its divisional HQ which traces supply to a hex or hexes on the edge of the map. In a traditional wargame, when a unit crosses a hex, even if the hex is not occupied, the hex now changes its ownership to the side that last crossed it. The opponent cannot draw supply through that hex. In Combat Command an opponent can still draw supply through that hex. This makes for a very fluid game as units can move back and forth without any great supply concerns. The only restrictions on supply are that supply cannot be drawn through a hex occupied by an enemy unit, through the ZOC of an enemy unit or across a major river without a bridge. PHASES. Each turn is split into phases and each side goes through one phase at a time. Some phases are resolved automatically so that from the players point of view the phases are: Movement Direct Fire Attack Phase Advance / Withdrawl phase EDITOR The scenario editor is very easy to use. Possibly the easiest in wargaming. The following screen shots are taken from the editor and I feel are self explanatory. http://users.tpg.com.au/sueyoo//CCME10.jpeg > 100 KB http://users.tpg.com.au/sueyoo//CCME11.jpeg > 100 KB The next screen shot is from the Guadacanal scenario http://users.tpg.com.au/sueyoo//CCME12.jpeg > 100 KB The next is a portion of the Stalingrad map in the autumn with the units removed from the map http://users.tpg.com.au/sueyoo//CCME13.jpeg > 100 KB The next is from the Hurtegon Forext http://users.tpg.com.au/sueyoo//CCME14.jpeg > 100 KB A screen shot from Carentan http://users.tpg.com.au/sueyoo//CCME15.jpeg > 100 KB And finally one from Bastogne http://users.tpg.com.au/sueyoo//CCME16.jpeg > 100 KB CONCLUSION This wargame is inexpensive and very simple. It is a joy to play! . .

  12. Press the key on your keyboard and time goes twice as face. Press again and then 4 x as fast. Press again and it goes back to normal time . .
  13. I created a mission whereby a civilian wearing dark brown, moves at random across our patrol path. Enemy soldiers too, move at random across our patrol path. At a point that I expected to meet enemy soldiers, my soldiers reported an unknown man. I assumed him to be an enemy soldier and controlled the patrol as though he were. I saw him and we went after him. My soldiers would not fire because they knew he was a civilian whereas I did not know that. How did my soldiers know he was a civilian when I didn’t? .
  14. I guess I expected my soldiers to tell me that the unknown man they spotted has turned out to be a civilain. . .
  15. The developers probably expected players to first install Arma 2 and then afterwards to install Operation Arrowhead to make Combined Operations. In October 2010, I installed OA, then afterwards installed Reinforcements and in December 2011 installed patch 1.60 In March 2012, I bought Arma 2 Can I install Arma 2 to the OA folder to make Combined Operations? .
  16. In the options you might for example might set the "Y" key to open a door you might also select the "Y" key to reverse a vehicle. If you select a key to do 2 tasks, the key appears as red text in the options screen. You can still use that key to do both tasks. You can select any key to do anything but if any key is in red text be aware that it can lead to confusion. . .
  17. And yes BAF should be installed in the same directory. . .

  19. If you place a soldier on the map, no matter what rank you give him, his rank never shows up in the soldier's icon. If you place a group on the map, quite often some soldiers automatically come with a rank of sergeant or corporal or what ever and their rank correctly shows up in the soldier's icon. How can i get the rank to always show up in a soldier's icon? . .
  20. If I were to place a group of say 7 soldiers on the map, when I begin the scenario, 7 icons will appear across the bottom of the screen. The group leader always appears as icon 1. How can I arrange it so a specific soldier appears as icon 2? How can I arrange it so a specific soldier appears as icon 3? How can I etc etc.......... . .
  21. Instead of remove weapon it is: this removeEquipment "GPS" ( or what ever it happens to be). I have not found a "Remove all equipment" so you need a separate comand for each item of equipment. All the commands go in the int line of the soldier. There is no need to type a fresh command for each soldier. Instead use Copy and Paste ctrl C and ctrl V . "V" for Paste sounds weird but works. . ---------- Post added at 03:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:04 PM ---------- Or make one soldier and then use copy and paste and make lots of copies of that soldier. . .

The trouble with getting people into Arma

Why take your eyes off the screen? I have a programmable keyboard Logitech G110. This has 12 extra keys down the left side. The keys are numbered G1 – G12. And there are 3 sets of menus so that in effect I have 36 extra keys. I can use some of the keys without taking my eyes off the screen. The top left key: Select Team Red The top right key: Select Team Blue The bottom left key: Go Prone Steal mode Diamond Formation The bottom right key: Go prone Line formation Weapons free To use the other 10 keys I (mostly) have to take my eyes off the screen. These have orders such as: All clear-Stand up-staggered formation And the other keys have various other orders Imagine, in-game if the right hand side of the screen had 3 columns of buttons grouped in groups of 6. Each button can be programmed by the player as he sees fit. Then with one press of an on screen button a player can order: Team Red Go prone Form Line Suppression fire Mortar team Fire “there†Team Blue Move to the left Thats one mouse click without taking the eyes off the screen. . .
