  1. Cried a little bit when I saw the quick keys to add teams and the change to select teams. Totally sweet.

I also haven't had any trouble with Alt-F4; if anything, it was a convenient way to close straight out of the game. I can't imagine how anybody would accidentally do that, but whatever; we don't all use computers the same way.

I thought it was nice that Arma 2 handled Alt-F4 so gracefully, saving first rather than just blowing away the process and heading for the desktop.

  2. @PHERTIKER

Nametags script is kinda beta. Maybe I can fix it in a future version, but I don't see people use it very often tbh. It was kind of "personal wish" to have it in ;-)

    Roger that, thanks!

My squaddies and I have been messing about trying to see if we can fix it as well. So far: upgraded to newest beta, upgraded from ZGM 8 to 9a, now any changes and the mission doesn't appear in the mission list at all. Ha ha!

  3. This mission type is pretty great; thanks!

Has anyone else noticed that the name tags, when turned on, turn themselves back off after respawn?

It actually happened twice while spawned in yesterday but the battle was too heated for me to notice what I might have been doing, but they will guaranteed be off after respawn. They come back without issue when selected in the team menu.

No mods, just CO and the PVP Island pack but it happened with plain CO as well. Dedicated server, 1.57 77068 beta patch (I honestly don't recall if I've used the non-beta server executable).

Edit: btw - download the pack again to make sure you have the latest 1.2 - I'm abit sneaky at times updating small stuff not telling anyone (after all I make this mission for me and my son to play).

That must've been it. Thanks! This game mode is all kinds of fun.

  5. To be fair, as long as I stay alive on first spawn it's tons of fun! =]

    My first try was DustInvasion1944.utes.

    Second was DustCoalitions.utes.

I have the Steam versions of Arma 2, OA, BAF, and PMC running as CO. I'm using a launcher, though, since Steamworks seems to be removed since 1.56.

Anything I can do to help, please let me know. I took today off so I could play video games all day; I just stuffed my kids in a closet and took the phone off the hook. This game type is a BLAST and the closest thing I've found to World War 2 Online (which for some reason has lost it's charm for me...).

    @phertiker

Sounds like you run the mission in singleplayer. It's recommended to at least run a passworded LAN server solo for "singelplayer" for huge missions like CTI.

    Hi ODEN-

Yeah, I'm running it like you recommend, on a LAN server...

  7. I'm going to go ahead and ask a dumb question:

I'm firing up a game with me + all AI, just for testing. If I die, I get a beautiful wide-angle view of the island, and absolutely no way to respawn. If I bring up the menu and hit "respawn", it just displays a message that I've died.

What the heck am I doing wrong?

Tried with some basic mods on, Invasion '44, and totally vanilla CO. Coalition and I44 maps.

  8. i'm seeing a lot of people fixing this by using fourth-party "launcher" programs. i don't want to do that - i want steam to recognize that i have A2:CO.

Why? If you use a "fourth-party" launcher it's dead easy to run (or not) mods, the beta, load world=empty for quick startup, disable intro vids, browse servers without having the game loaded, etc.

1.56 seemed to remove Steamworks so now you don't even need Steam running. This is a good thing, trust me.

Steam doesn't patch files and instead just replaces them, thus a 300MB retail patch becomes a 2.6GB download. I wonder, though, if the retail patches would work now that the game is decoupled from Steam.

  9. Some things that I only recently and accidentally discovered help a lot.

Specifically, assigning behavior. Select your dudes with tilde ~ and hit 7 on the number row. You then have options for Stealth, Danger, Aware, Safe, and some other stuff I forget at the moment. Assigning these makes a big difference in the AI's response to your movement orders.

For example, when I have them set to "Aware" they tend to stick close mirror my stance. They will engage automatically, but I assume there's a range difference or slight delay compared to "Danger" when in contact. If set to "Stealth" they stay very low, move slowly, and don't usually get in contact with targets unless ordered or they have no choice.

Basically when moving long distances I set them to "Aware", switch to "Danger" when close if we can go noisy, "Stealth" if not. It's been working well for me.

  10. How serious are you about not using maxmem parameters? I don't really know what they are, but Zeus AI recommends their use.

Will anything bad happen if I use both maxmem=2047 and -cpucount=2 -exThreads=1?

Probably not, but the "cpucount" and "exThreads" variables won't have any effect as those are automatically detected these days. I'm not sure what the status is of the "maxmem" setting but I never bother with it.

  11. Alright, so eventually the BAF installer thing worked for me. I think. Possibly.

I assume it didn't work initially because I had my Steam install on my C drive and just symlinked my steamapps folder to my D drive. I then had Arma and OA symlinked BACK to my C drive because it's an SSD...

Anyways, I reinstalled Steam on the D drive and moved my Arma installs back as well. I ran Arma, then OA, then copied the BAF installer to the PMC folder and ran it. It's hard to tell what it was doing because the window doesn't fit the full paths of the files being moved, but it set it all up in the BAF folder. I ran OA and it only showed PMC lite as active; PMC full was there but disabled.

I then ran BAF from the Steam library and it installed PMC. Correct graphics on the installer and everything. Now they both appear in the Expansions list, the campaign shows up correctly. I haven't actually played; I'll test it once the kiddos go to bed.

    Big fun!

  12. I have no idea what it's called, since the DLC is not working for me. It's the campaign that comes with PMC, should be in there with the other campaigns if you have installed the non-Steam patch.

It's got the low quality models, sound and cut scene videos, so I would recommend everyone to buy the DLC to get the full experience, and to support BIS and the great game that Arma 2 is.

I see. You don't think that was a bug? Have BI gone on record saying it was intentional that the PMC campaign was added in the 1.56 patch?

I watched the vid that one user uploaded to Youtube, and despite Youtube's encoding artifacts it looked pretty darn good and that was without PMC installed at all. That cannot have been intentional. I feel like this was not intentional.

In any case, I totally agree with your recommendation. Hell, if they released all future content for free I'd still send them money every now and then.

  13. The free campaign that comes with the patch that you download is for some reason not included in the Steam patch. That's a BIS problem, not Steam. I personally don't care too much since I have bought the full DLC, it's just that as a Steam user I don't like it when the Steam version of the patch is missing content that others get for free.

There is? What is it called?

  14. I've played lots of games on Steam, and the only problems I've ever had have been with Arma 2. I don't think you can just blame Steam for this.

And I'm sure that Steam has absolutely nothing to do with the contents of the patches.

Lucky you that you haven't had problems, but plenty of other people have. I myself am happy about the random disconnections that happen at random times throughout the day which prevent the launching of games and connection to the "friends" service, but of course the web-based store continues to work just fine.

As far as the patch content goes: sure, the only patch content they are responsible for is for Valve products, so I'm not sure where you are going with this. From the looks of the PMC installer folder on my PC it seems to be all there, but Steam throws up any time I try to manually run the installer. Doesn't sound like a BI problem to me...

  15. Well that could be, actually. What causes the hanging problem is that Steam only accepts the mod parameter string up to a certain length. If its under that maximum length, it will work. You may have had only a couple mods running, or maybe none at all.

Hmm, interesting. I removed all the mods; I still get the error, but the game loads. I didn't actually try to play.

I CAN get it to work just fine, however, by choosing the Steam executable rather than the OA exe, and using this in the "Additional Paramaters" field:

    -applaunch 33930

The launcher puts that option at the end of the variables but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I'm trying it with ACE2 and a zillion other mods enabled; I think it would work fine, except that PMC is screwed up through Steam and it causes other mods to be disabled as well.

** Nope, lies. The launcher won't detect any addons if you change the exe path that drastically.

  16. It just didn't install properly. If you look in your Operation Arrowhead folder under /steam/steamapps/common/arma 2 operation arrowhead/ you can compare with the BAF install and see that, while the installer files exist in "DLCsetup", it didn't actually install the content (BAF has a folder right under the OA folder where the addon lives).

I was going to try it manually but I see there's a license file and all sorts of other BS that I really don't want to get into. Oh well, Steam bites us yet again. I'm just happy that, because of the beta patches, I can run Arma without having Steam logged in.

  17. Unfortunately that's the way it is for everyone. Until they get rid of the Steam copy protection on OA like they did for ArmA 2, it will be a pain like that. Just have to use the beta for now.

You know what's weird? I'd swear to you that it worked for OA just a few weeks ago, but now I get a Steam load app error. I'm almost positive I wasn't running the beta because a buddy of mine was and I remember talking about WANTING to run the beta...

    Twilight zone, man.

**Dammit, I forgot: Thanks for the launcher. Between this and Addon Sync I almost never use the actual Arma menu interface...
