  1. Typical time spent gaming for me...(thinks to self) 'Maybe I'm playing Arma 2 too much, let me load up one of my many ignored games.' Plays for a few minutes, "this is too simple, 'Too linear' 'dumbed down' etc Loads up Arma 2 again... Like many others, I do enjoy the older Ghost Recon, and Rainbow Six and RTS strategy, but modern FPS's....this is the only way to go.
  2. Well, cleaned off the latest Nvidia drivers (275.33) and did a clean install of the 263.09 version (just happened to be the oldest I had saved on my computer) the game now runs perfectly; same performance and no more LOD issues. I'll play with the Nvidia control panel a little bit more later tonight after work to see if I can sqeak out a few fmore FPS
  3. Very small and first ever video..... Taken from some online MP about a month ago, the pilot (who was actually very good) wanted to do a rooftop insertion in a very hot LZ...... MTTuObN3zEw
  4. But before you load a ton of mods on (as good as its is ACE would be included in this) learn the vanilla game first. Go through the in-game training, get the game running how you like it and then spend some time on a good MP server. THEN download all the mods to hearts delight...... It will make life much easier....
  5. I like how at one point your team mate runs in front of you while you were shooting, not once or twice but like five times.....lol
  6. Loaded them up, clean install, seem to have LOD issues again.....sigh

    ArmA2 for free!

/agree over and over There is no diffference in gamers who have expectations when they buy the game or get it with a magazine DVD (which is sort of buying it) Could the reason for the differently named exe come down to support patching, add-ons etc? Good move by BI!

    ArmA X: Anniversary Edition

I would argue the number of games released with bugs is at a ridiculous level atm but I am constantly amazed at BI's ongoing support of thier titles while other developers don't just walk away from supporting their titles but run.

A few real life combat questions

To go back to the original question, just finished reading 'Lone Survivor' the 2008 book written by Marcus Luttrell which recounts the Navy SEAL being the only survivor of an insertion mission in Afghanistan; The SEALS took eight mags each......but you could tell by the end of the first major battle they wisehed they had more. Now their mission was behind enemy lines and they travelled on foot once inserted so wieght obviously came into play for what they took.

    42nd Remakes BHD movie

I'm certainly willing to help...pm me here and let me know the details....
  11. So I'm assuming, from the nature of the patch and the DVD compilation, from now on updates will address both BAF and PMC jointly and as 'Reinforcements'.....
  12. This is incredibly interesting. I'd rather fly around the various maps (Official and Mod made) with the helicopters in ARMA 2 than in FSX. For all the disclaimers ARMA 2 isn;t a flight sim, the handling is as good if not better than FSX. Add to that there is waaayyyyy more detail in ARMA 2 maps than the off the shelf FSX (and other flight sims) its simply more fun to do stuff (even non-combat related) in ARMA 2. I hope this isn't a joke and look forward to the chance to buy the game. Personally think anything that can bring more cash into Bohemian will only help continue the awesome work they do in the Mil-Sim games...:):)
  13. A little late to the game but wanted to add that the landing in this video is so sharp. Watched it a few times... Nicely done.
  14. I know a bunch of people here use Sony Vegas for their editing. I've come across the problem on Vegas of the program not taking avi files, the format used by fraps. Is there a conversion program or plugin I'm missing for Vegas? The avi files only show as sound only in Vegas. Thanks for any help.

    DLC DVD Pack

Okay...acidently posted this question on the wrong thread.... Is there any chance that we'll get some new DLC with this DVD? Everything is pretty vague.... http://www.nothingbutpcgaming.com/news/news/no-joke-arma-2-expansions-coming-to-dvd-on-april-1st

    Arma 2 Reinforcements

So is there the slightest chance we'll be rewarded with some new DLC in this DVD? Everything is pretty vague... http://www.nothingbutpcgaming.com/news/news/no-joke-arma-2-expansions-coming-to-dvd-on-april-1st
  18. It was with great sadness I read in the Times magazine over the weekend of the passing of Dick Winters, the leader of WW2's famous Easy Company of the 101st Airborne Division. It was the book by Stephen Ambrose and later HBO series of the groups' exploits that helped the general public refocus and realize what great deeds the men of not only the 101st but all the servicemen and women of World War 2 achieved during an exacting time in world history. Its amazing to know (and play) modern combat games such as Arma 2 with body armor, precise weapons, satellite connected this that and another after reading about and watching of men who dove into the confusion of war Armed with only a small-clip un-scoped rifle, helmet and their boundless bravery. We've lost another hero from 'America's greatest generation'.
  19. Apologies, feel free to delete this thread.

    Analog Throttle Control

Unless Im not seeing the problem, the throttle works fine on on my X52 setup....can remember if I set anything up in any particular fashion, but get thrust up and down the throttle. Oddly enough, I had them hooked up last night, flying around the various maps and in the armory.
  21. Just to add to the Nvidia ati discussion, just changed from a pair of 5870's C/F to a pair of 570's in SLI. The difference is night and day. Aside from the game simply looking better, my textures popping in and out are gone I've maxed all video options (except resolution-still at 120%) and increased the viewing distance to 4000! With all this additon eye-candy I still managed to keep the framerates up! Amazing cards!
  22. For whatever reason, I found the training missions in OA much better than other before it in the Arma 2 series. even so, there was a learning curve in Arma 2, which I'm sure the OP is getting at. I would pay exra for a DVD full of basic training, tactics and even better a visual review and lessons in the editor. Sure these can be find with some searching and come in varying degrees, but it would be a lot better to have it on disc. Besides, I'd like to see the other half's eyes roll when I throw the DVD in for an evenings entertainment:bounce3:
  23. Just reinstalled everything and patched it accordingly....nice! Haven't had a chance to play through any levels yet but working my way through the game's menus and loading up missions are remarkably faster. Ran the benchmarks and saw an increase across the different benchmarks. Still having some LOD issues (blurry trees) but I put that blame at the feet of ATI and their crappy drivers. Looking forward to getting some game time on this!
  24. Firstly, once again a big thanks to a developer who continues to support their product. Refreshing to see:bounce3:. Just as a sign of my addiction to this game, once again I got the error of my version of Arma 2 was corrupted and the patch wouldn't apply itself. Had the same message on the last patch and I realize this must be operator error along the way...lol I do change my arma2ao exec to allow for crossfire, but even after changing it back I still got the error message. Regardless, I have no problem reinstalling the game to get the latest patch of this experience we all call Arma 2.
  25. Sintacks Seems you and I are in simliar boats and have very similar systems. When I built my latest gaming computer, I decided on two 5870's (5970's were out of stock everywhere) but have had issues with Crossfire, of course the drivers and disappointed by the performance of ARMA 2 compared to the video card muscle under the hood. I have managed to get Crossfire to work and can see a difference with the heavy lifting needed by this amazing game, but still have issues with overall performance and my expectations. Heres my question to you. Will be most likely upgrading to a 580 next month (much prefer Nvidia), do you see a marked difference between a single nvidia card (your 480) and the SLI config? I'm wondering if the investment of a second 580 is going to give me the marked improvement I'm hoping for.
