  1. O/C the CPU, or buy an i7.

Another suggestion is to get a "24+ LCD with 1080p resolution. You're playing at 1280x1024, might as well put a Voodoo 2 3000 GPU in there, seeing as there's a CPU bottleneck problem. :cc:

I won't say it over and over again. Stop being fanboys, first generations of Phenoms were really bunch of slow processors. But AMD was able to make new strong (and cheap!) processors such as Phenoms II. I don't say they can beat i7 or even i5. But they're cca like Q9550, which is pretty enough for ArmA (well, enough for at least 30 FPS). My HW should be enough for ArmA, there must be bottleneck somewhere else. ;)

EDIT: Enabled Super A.I., its running somehow better now. Well, now its more playable :)

  2. @ Hawk...I have a caviar green 1TB HDD, with no drop in performance or in fps, (at least none noticeable). And going by the rest of your rig, it certainly does not seem to a prob with your hardware - assuming you have installed everything correctly.

2 questions: When was the time you formatted? Or, when was the last time you defragged your HDD? Because, really agame like arma that needs to be constantly loading a lot of data as you play, retrieving that data from files scattered all across you hdd is not going to help matters. Most other games this would just mean longer load times as the "level" is loaded before hand.

A few moths ago, I had a very very slow frame rate on Arma2, much slower than usual - about -15 to -20fps. After a reformat things went back to normal. So before spending any cash on new hardware, Id try either reformatting, or if thats not possible, at least a defrag.

Another possibilty is some system resource hogging bit of malware, try opening up windows resource monitor, check the top cpu and memory users. If the process isnt recognisable, then google the name of the process. (To open resource manager, start task manager, click the performance tab, and you will see a button: Open Resource Manager). You may find something not right there such as a process that shouldnt be there, or one that you didnt know was running constantly.

Hello, I formated about 2 weeks ago, installed Arma and OA with patches (right after i defragmented the partition only with Arma and OA on it)...Im using 3 partitions, one for video render, next for system, and the last and the biggest for games and music

And i had formatted whole HDD (each partition) before the fresh install Win (got windows 7 32 bit before, but the perf. was the same) + with the new CPU other games got FPS boost...for example CoH went from AVG 50 to AVG 100 with new CPU...so I really dont have idea where is the problem...

EDIT: So, im gonna try fresh install, hope it will perform better meh...

EDIT2: 56 AVG in CO Benchmark 08...lol now im completly out of sense why it sucks so much in some cases

  3. It makes me wonder if its really HDD, cause i have no problem in empty world with just couple of soldiers...i dont really know, but HDD is used to stream textures no? As I know AI calculations are CPU dependant so there should be such a big use of HDD. BTW, I had no stuttering or texture popping up, just low FPS. (Vsync is always off in catalysts)

  4. Ummm first thing that I see was 42c at only 800mhz :O that not good.

    you sure its not overheating.

you sure the CPU does speed up when in game

you sure the CPU fan does speed up when CPU gets hotter?.

But yeah that temp looks high for the CPU to be only at 800mhz mine hits 42c under load at 2.6ghz.

the screenshot is taken right after Alt tab from arma, the temps are cca 35 in idle and something under 50 at load :)

  5. How about your processes, are you running a lot of them?

Maybe you should have a look on what you are runnig on the pc.

Wich antivirus are you using? any scans runing?

Do you have any background program running?

only background running is Fraps (not recording, just FPS watch), got Eset Smart security, no scan and got relatively fresh install of windows (with format ofevery partition, 2 weeks ago or so) so there are only system processes running in the background

here is the CPU usage + system processes list...clocks are so low because the multiplier goes down to x4 when not in game or CPU dependant app

  6. ;1741636']5850 is over enough for this game. And engine take benefits of anything over 2 cores.

But looking at configuration' date=' I have no idea why it runs so slow. Even on my PC with even higher settings I get more FPS.

Did you try older versions of graphics drivers?[/quote']

reinstalled to 10.8 just today...got 10.6 before and 10.4 with old CPU...FPS remained the same...and yeah, forgot to mention that both (got combined arms) games are patched up to date

  7. hi,

what hdd is in your rig?

maybe there is the bottleneck, i upgraded my hdd just slightly(from100mb/s to 150mb/s) an got ~10fps more.

Got the Western Digital Caviar Green (500GB, 3 Gb/s)

http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=338 here are the specifications...and i forgot to mention, HDD is defragmented ofcourse :)

I would guess that the reason is that the CPU was not the bottleneck for normal gameplay. Since I guess you still have the same GPU it's probable that the framerate is limited by that. Also, it might be that the graphics engine don't use mutiple cores effectively, and since the individual cores on your new CPU is only slightly faster, the difference might not be very noticable.

If you have any way of monitoring the CPU load on the individual cores during gameplay, you could see how much the game uses.

dont think so, my friend has got 8800GTX and Q6600 (without OC) and he is able to run it about 5-6FPS faster :)

  8. Hello,

I just bought new CPU (AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE and sold Intel C2D E8200 ) but my framerates are still the same (22 FPS max on 1280x1024, 100% fillrate, no AA, high AF, everything on medium high). Also, when i lower everything to Very Low FPS is still floating around 25. I tried CPUcount = 4, maxmem = 2047, reinstalling drivers (10.8 catalysts ATM).

    My system:

    Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit)

    AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE @ 3.2Ghz

    4GB of DDR2 1333Mhz RAM (Kingston Hyperx)

Asus ATI Radeon HD 5850 (10.8 catalysts)

Using integrated Soundcard/Network adapter (Gigabyte MA770-US3)

And if you think its because of FADE, dont worry, got the original copy of the game.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks
