they should make more hotkeys for action types...
one key for opening/closing doors + entering/exiting vehicles with double function.
One simple press does the action you would expect from what you are looking at. If you press and hold it's giving you the available options in a rose menu, but JUST the available enter/exit options. And not Gear, switch weapon and whatnot.
Another key would be for ordonance (replaces Grenade button). Press once and you take a frag grenade into your hand. Press+Hold to see the ordonance rose menu (deploy mine, deploy satchel, touch off etc). By taking a grenade into your hand, a better controll for grenades can be implemented. Fire modes for the grenades could be cycled through via normal means - because it is the active weapon. throw, roll, hurl (high arc over wall). Now a normal tap on fire button does a 100% throw/roll/hurl - depending on which you chose (throw=default). Holding fire button charges strength up to 100%.
Additional benefit: you don't immediately throw a grenade once you press the G button accidentally. You can switch back to your normal gun. And it's less COD-actionshootery as it takes a little bit more time to throw a grenade compared to what we have now.
Weaponswitching (primary, secondary) should also be a seperate hotkey. Press+Hold Weaponswitch key enables the ammo menu rose - for different bullet types on hand weapons or in vehicles. Fire modes can do with a double function with press+hold to switch to the "secondary mode" of a weapon - i.e. underbarrel grenade launcher/shotgun
The rest of the actions can stay in the action menu, because with all the important stuff having seperate keys it's also very decluttered - even when sitting in a vehicle with a lot of options.

We are releasing content in packs. Imperial guard packs, tau packs, chaos etc.Sorry to say, but it sounds quite like a rush job.
If i look at this boy's detail level and that of the tabletop model, with keeping in mind that the tabletop model is not bigger then a shoebox but the ingame model will be ~6.3m high and 8.4m wide to the observer, and yet the 3D model has way less details ... that's going to look very bland and detailless. If the Arma 3 default ground texture will be more detailed then your multi-story building vehicle, there is something wrong imo. Additionally the proportions of many of the shown models are off.
I would like to see a little bit more emphasis on detail level, rather then raw numbers of models and races. Because quite frankly - this is Arma 3 and not OFP, unless you replace all game assetts this will look very bad when paired because of the lower quality. I'm interested in working on a w40k mod as a modeller, but only if the quality can remotely match up to Arma 3...
If you are looking for additional help you could check out these guy's serpentthegreen and ld810103 models. Not sure what motivated them to make the models, but maybe they could be interested in helping, or allowing you to take models. If that fails you can still use them as inspiration source.
Also, just because you make your own models doesn't protect you from copyright issues. Gamesworkshop has the right to shut down your mod at any time, and if you are doing low quality job, it is more likely -because they don't want bad quality representing their IP. They did shut down an fanmade space marine film because of that.

Or the transports only being big enough for maybe 4-6 models.. :P It's hard to properly transfer them straight from the models to 'realistic' proportions, simply because the models are just that- static representations on a tabletop designed with a tabletop game in mind. In reality, all vehicles would be bigger in some ways and smaller in others, to make the less model-y and more RAWR 40K. The Firestorm over Kronos/ Kaurava mod resized them pretty well, imo.That's what i talked about... if you take the dimensions mentioned in the Forgeworld books (Rhino l/h/w = 6,60m/3,60m/4,50m) then it fits well enough. That's not really a problem. Only real problem is the calibres that you have size down, by alot (or increase barrel thickness artificially) and the weapon pivots - although if you make calibre smaller there is enough place for pivoting correctly.

This topic has gone waaaaaayyy out of hand...Some of these comments make me sad/ashamed to be a part of this community IMHO.
Yes, and people take this way to seriously imo...
i'm pretty sure the devs would include female models if it wouldn't be so much work (for the whole gear customisation to work you need a female version for every cloth/equipment piece)
Plus they might have to change animations and/or the model skeletton to be able to be smaller / whatever. Additionally they would need to record a new voice and finetune it for the voicesystem.
Work-Gain ratio is pretty bad there, so they focus on other stuff...

I really dont see the need to change my shoes or pants individually... this is still arma and not second life. Also this is hardly an overhaul what you suggested. Its more like scrap& start from scratch since all the models have to be edited to make this work.

When you say max uphill, as in the engine was loud going uphill?But the car also has a rpm needle so i guess its simulated in some sort of way? It shouldnt be impossible to make it so that it is dependant on speed and rpm

Does anyone else thinks the Car sounds in the Alpha need an improvement? I found them pretty annoying, because the engines sound like they have extreme revs sometimes but they just dont fit the speed/torque ingame. For example i drove the civ SUV truck somewhere offroad, very slightly uphill. Speed was capped at 30kph but the engine sounded like it was at maximum possible rpm and about to break... all the way up the hill.
Its a pain for the ears on longer trips.

Hi, for some reason User Missions dont want to show up in the Scenario section. I have full Alpha, and i put the missions everywhere (User/documents/arma3/missions, steam/arma3/missions & mpmissions)

I can't start Arma 3 Alpha (full) on both my computers. The "stable" build, not the beta build. No mods/addons whatsoever. I get asked if i want to launch Arma 3 or launch in windowed mode, but then it crashes (no matter what i choose). Both Win7 64bit. Both installs where verified by steam again.
On the newer PC i get this crash message, on the old one i get nothing. The old one has older drivers so i thought that might be the cause, but the new one doesnt do it better either. I'm pretty annoyed by this...

Isn't Mtek's Predator G4 supposed to withstand at least one 7.62*39 rd at 30-something feet ?level IIIA is .357 and .44 pistol rounds... so, no not really. If it requires ceramic plates to withstand 7.62 then its obvious that a thin strapon thing for your helmet (that isnt rifle proof either) wont do the trick.

Second. I've received some feedback that new iron sights on AKs were not that good and people wanted back the old ones. I like the old-fashioned sights better too, but they doesn't work good with a rail on top. I have a completed model of side-mounted rail, but I don't know how to make it hidden when there's no optics attached to the weapon. There must be some new animation source in model.cfg or something like that. Would be great if anyone could help me with that.Iirc the side mount is clamped to the weapon, so it#s not easily removed in a second? Perhaps you could just make an AK version with the siderail and one without? Or make scope variants that only fit onto the AK/similar weapons and attach the mount to the scopes?
Anyway, good work. I love russian gear and vehicles.

people say it's running smooth, but i can also play on Utes in Arma2 pretty smooth with my old rig.
Comparing Chernarus with Stratis is not really usefull.

It's all fun and dandy if you do it, but if you get shot by those that look like your friends the fun is over. There can only be chaos that comes out of this. BIS made the right decision.

I was able to 'pull' on the horizontal at high speed 250 knots without the speed dropping going around in a circle, it flys more like a small jet than a chopper! Also the rudders are barely effective enough to be of any use. Trying to target those cars was pretty hard all I could do was go one strafes (much like a plane) the rudders where useless at anything above a hover. Does not feel like a chopper based on any other game I've playedSounds exactly like in Arma 2 ;) Especially the Mi-24 behaves like that (if you read the wiki entry, the mechanics fit the description).

Noticed the underwater gun is 5.56 despite being copied from a 7.62mm gun.Blame lobbyism. Or Greenpeace intervened because 7.62 disturbs the seacritters alot more =P

I have been modelling/modding a long time for another smaller game (X3) in the past years and i wanted to get into Arma 2 modding/modeling. X3 already wasn't that easy to learn the ropes, but it was much simpler because it doesn't have complex animations and configs etc and the files are all accessable relatively easy - so Reverseengineering was "relatively" easy. I looked for modding info for arma2 and came to several sides that pointed to OFP (some even didn't exist anymore). And i didn't find any full tutorial on how to make a complete vehicle or so for the game. Only some bits here, some there. In the end i had given up to because i didn't feel like going on an everlasting hash run just to get something basic working.
Also bear in mind that nowadays the percentage of people willing and able (both equally important) to get into modding is way lower than it used to be, for a number of reasons, the most important one, at least in books, being the sheer amount of time and skills that one needs in order to push content that is on par with the vanilla content. Things have evolved, and while tools can do some things faster in some cases, the quality bar is way higher than back in OFP times, as well as the workflow needed.Yes, absolutely. With outdated tools and hard to find (if at all) documentation the time/efford required to even get something in the game is very demotivating. And then to top it off, you have to be very good/ learn alot in order to create something that passes as "OK"-Quality in the game.
On top of that, with the higher quality demand, the time required increases alot. A total conversion of a normal game these days takes ~3 years at least, and by that time there's usually already the predecessor of the game at the doorstep. If the team can even manage to stay motivated that long. That's also a reason why you don't see more 'fun' mods (e.g. *insert favorite scifi-movie* total conversion).

Currently the vehicle handling is outright terrible. Sometimes it feels like they have no torque whatsoever (and their sound is terrible - no sense of torque either). Additionally some vehicles have very weird brakes. Like the Opfor APC. It breaks from 60 to 0 in about 2m or something like that last time i tried it.
The automatic transmition should only shift if the Speed / rpm demands it
Also regarding the Q W E speeds - wouldn't it be better, if those would mimic the gas pedal instead of maximum speed? maybe 10 50 and 100% gas. If you want to drive slow - you use 10% gas. The top speed will automatically be lower, additionally your engine won't make as much noise (well at least that's how it should be). But you can also drive faster then as if you had an artificial speed limit. To keep a certain speed you could implement a cruise control action (like helicopter autohover) or better as hotkey option. It automatically keeps you at the speed it was when enabled. If you brake or accelerate it disengages.
I'm all for adding optional manual up/downshifting options to make the vehicles drivers life a little bit more interesting and enyojable.
