Hmmmm I'm having some wierd issues associated with some models with this beta. I deleted my arma2.cfg file prior to the test. For instance a chinook approached me, but stayed in a low LOD as it got closer. Even when I was next to it, it was in that low LOD.I'm also seeing trees/bushes switching quite fast when you zoom in. Perhaps either delay the zoom or make that LOD switch instantaneous. Surely if the trees/bushes were in memory this should happen immediately? For info I'm running a Core i7 920@3.85GHz, 12Gb RAM, GTX570.
Anyone else see the same things ?
Same problem here! And less fps on the same mission i was playing yesterday!
i7 3930 4.8 16gb ram gtx 680

maybe arma claims just a bit too much. You can save a bit by closing everything in the background and "disable desktop composition" (go to the arma exe properties and compatibility). This disables the aero interface when arma is running, freeing up a bit of memory. Thanks leon but i have all these futures off already and i do you trick for all my games!Disable visual themes and disable desktop compositon. The memory being eat up is pretty much in multiplayer.

I can not get this beta patch to work either, game crashes with a error message saying:Direct3D 9 graphical engine.
HAZ
I always have this problem when i am using oktNoBlur older version than the betapatch!

Really good map!One of the best ever!Nice job!
Very realistic!

What is weird for me is after flushing the memory (shift+num- flush), memory usage shows less than 800mb on msi afterburn and then rise up to 2gb gtx 680 limit then performance gets worst, so i have to flush every 10 minutes!
-
I've never seen it get to 3GB, ~2.7 is the highest I've ever seen it go (when I was using 3GB 580s).If you use "Vhigh" instead of "Default" for memory usage, it will cap the memory usage at ~1GB
4GB 680s will be around in a couple of weeks and then GK-110 in September/October :D
The same here but does this makes a difference 2gb vs 3 gb? i am only using one 1920x1080!
-
well the VRAM is used all the time as you stream in objects ... so if You have 3GB card it will probably use all the VRAM availableSo is not a leak? Then the more vram the better for arma 2?Like a gtx 680 4gb arma would use the 4 gb?
-
My crossfire and sli always were very good in arma 2! In tests on map with no cpu stress i can see a gain from almost double the performance!
Jedra if you are not using it yet...add the -winxp on your short cut.
I HAVE A QUESTION for Dwarden : when i had my 7970s i would see arma 2 oa using over 2.5 gb of vram and more! And on my 680s i see going up to the limit 2gb vram on gpu-z , msi afterburne and presision-x! Why is that? starts like 1gb and keeps increasing all the way to cap....is this a memory leak? There is some performance dropping so i have to do a "flush" or alt-tab then goes back to under 1gb...but after that will increase again! My resolution is 1920x1080.

580 has more ROPS than 680 ... that might be whyROPs (rip off prices)lol jk
But why the 580 is as good or better than the 680 ONLY in arma 2?in bf3, batman AC and skyrim 680 is 20-30% better! But not in arma 2!I have not tested the 680 (downclocked) at 580 speeds...that would make the 680 a terrible card on arma 2!
Denco
I had the 7970 cf but i rma to get the 680 (way better). But i got one 7970 and i was not that happy with performance! Then i order another one and its way better!Do it if you have the money!Makes gameplay smoother because you cap your fps at 60!with your settings. On a mission that i test gameplay and performance i got 102fps on CF from 55 on a single card! The microstuttering is pretty much gone!
-
2-3 fps more with pci-e 3.0 in bench 1 and e8, bench 2 the same! I arma 2 every fps counts!lol And its something that you paid for if you have a x79+gtx680.
Plus smoother gameplay!Less hiccups and microstuttering!Dont ask me why! But was very noticeable!

froggyluv, BangTail and everybody that has a gtx 680 and X79/SNB-E Systems:
I learn today that all the new nvidia drivers dont support pci-e 3.0 (so you guys are running it on pci-e 2.0 you can check it with gpu-z)!they will only do it for the ivy-bridge but there is a hack for that!
hack:
Where i got it from:
http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=1509861
Tests:
http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=1537816&mpage=1
If you have sli you got to disable it on nvidia control panel and do it for each card on the registry.

So what are we talking bout here gentlemen -we have dual top line cards running with quad core's OC'ed to the high 4's low 5's. Whats it gonna take to beat that nasty Benchmark#2 - Octocore at 6.6 ghz....:rolleyes:The day we see that bench 2 being beat will be maybe in 2-3 years with new cpu generations! that means over 60fps! We will be able to play arma 2 with lots and lots of AI!Maybe middle of arma 3's life!
After a point ocing cpu does not effect arma anymore....my i7 920 i tested from 4 to 4.3 and only gain 5 fps after that 4.4 and up there was no difference...but with 3930k @ 4.3 i got 5-8 frames more than my 920 @ 4.3 (clock to clock + extra 2 cores) and an extra 5-8 more @ 4.8!And the same with 3930k after 4.8 no gain....this was all on a custom mission that i use to test in game.
-
Don't forget the lower TDP of the GTX680. May not seem all that important but in the long run you save money as well. That is why i am keeping them! and plus is better in other games like batman and bf3...
-
Bench 2 is cpu demanding!
-
I get more fps with my gtx 680 sli and smoother gameplay than with my (already RMA) 7970 cf ( 1050/1425 factory oc)! arma=nvidia by far! i had a 5970 then added a 5870 in trifire....after that i got the 7970 cf and rma to get the 680 but before i went to frys and got 2 580s 3gb to test....results for me in arma 2 oa (all the same settings but AA for all cards that i tested and the same pc setup):
bench 1 bench 2 bench e8
580 3gb sli 109 27 127 AA very high
680 sli 107 27 133 AA very high
7970 cf 102 27 132 AA low
5970+5870 96 24 not tested. AA low
The difference is not that much but nvidia cards play way smoother than ati and less glitches! The ati has sharper image! But Nvidia all the way now for me....
What sucks is that i did not get any improvement from 580 3gb sli to the 680....seems like the same cards...:( but i would see the 580s using over 2gb o ram and the 680s sometimes caps on the 2gb....maybe thats way i get more fps on the 580 3gb.)
-
when maxed AA = no or low AA, for it it looks your'e CPU limited. Try to overclock it. Increasing AA should always affect your performance, and when it's barely downgrading the performance, then it might be your CPU which coming to it's limits. Not really... cpu limited! 3960k oc to 4.8! the same cpu for both tests....and the worst thing now is that i got my gtx 680s and with the same setup i use the 580s 3gb where i got 109 on bench 1 i cant pass 102 with the gtx 680 :(
I tried driver 301.10, 301.24 beta no difference in performance but the new beta 301.25 is the worst one... i lost 3-4 fps.
My set up
Cpu 3930k @ 4.8 wc
16 gb ram @ 2133
Gtx 680 sli stock
win 7 64 ssd1
arma 2 ssd2
griffz i will test 200% tonite.
here is my test on a custom mission just loading and checking the fps.
100% 105fps
114% 80
120% 75
125% 67
133% 58
150% 43
200% 30

Maybe try more missions with no-respawns and players who got killed can't connect again until the current match is over? That is how i learn how to play 10 years ago! american's army and couter-strike! After rounds start nobody can join! But the problem with arma pr is that the maps are way too big for this...But i like better with no respawn!
-
PR was the savior angel of PvP gameplay. Try it, learn it, love it.I agree %100!

What resolution?
I RMA my 7970s and got 2 580 3gb for the moment from frys so i can bring back and get the full money back. With the 580 3gb sli i get better fps on arma 2 than with the 7970 cf! So i am waiting for some 680!
Got my gtx 680 sli and only 5 fps more in game then gtx 580 3gb sli....and bench 1 i got 101 fps on the 680s against 105 on the 580s... :( is that because drivers are not mature or the 3gb against 2gb? Is exactly the same setup! Both stock speeds on the vcards...
-
BangTail
How do you like ur gtx 680 compare to the 580 3gb? how much gain did you get?
-
I did not get to order my 680s yet but just RMA my 7970..but before that i went to frys, where i can get full money back ( to be sure i was not going to mess up giving back the 7970s) and bought a couple of gtx 580 3gb stock from zotac.
Here:
Settings:
View d 810
Texture detail Very high
Video memory Default
Af Very high
AA low
Terrain detail Very high
Object detail Very high
Shadow detail Very high
Hdr quality Very High
PP very low
3d resolution 1920x1080 (100%) same as my resolution.
One 7970, b1 82fps, b2 26fps, e8 88fps, two 7970 cf ,b1 102fps, b2 27, e8 132
Now the GTX 580 sli b1 109fps, b2 27, e8 127!!!BUT this is with AA VERY HIGH!!! What hell!!! The 580s are way smoother than the 7970s and pretty much the same fps!
So now i am going to get the 680s and see what is up! No more ATI cards for me for a long long time!
-
Do you have the bench with the 7970 with the same settings?
-
BangTail ,
Any arma 2 bench on your SLI 680 set up?
-
I wouldn't feel too bad. It's a ll a learning experience and the more exposure you have to different types of hardware, the better off you are for it :)Yes i know....but now i will be sticking to nvidia for a while! I remember my sli 7800gtx, sli 8800 ultra...never good oc but always super solid! ati to many driver problems...from cat 10.5 to 12.3 i can say that i lost 10 fps on my 5970+5870 set up! :( So i had hope for the 7970s...They are good cards but i wanna something solid and trouble free...lol
And what is your opinion? i see that you got yours 680 already? did you bench it with arma 2? did you have 2 7970s?

So if use these beta i will have a big disadvantage on a pvp game on a night mission against other players that don't have it!
