I have windows 7 64 bit. I have the free version for now just to try it before I buy the full version......and so far I am glad I have done so because even with the graphics set as low as I can get them it still laags really bad. Any idea as to why? Those of you have windows 7 64bit say it works great, so what is the problem with mine. Do I need to re-install, or could it be the free version has a problem or what?:confused:
Why don't you post the specs of your system? It's not the Windows 7.

I've tried installing the Arma II free program and when I started it, it has this error message saying "Unable to Locate Component" "This application has failed to start becuase X3DAudio 1_6.dll was not fount. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"I've re-installed the program again and when I started it, it has the same message.

Alright so I got a new CPU, MOBO and 4Gigs of RAM while I kept my 4870HD 512mb.
The problem is that after I installed the new parts, I can no longer select over "Normal" texture quality and DXdiag says that I have 244MBs of RAM.
I also have this problem in Dawn of War 2. So I wonder if anyone else has the same problems with 48xx + 11.8CCC. And I also wonder if anyone has a solution available as my googling skills have failed me.
Currently: Phenom 2 940BE, 8Gigs of DDR2 Corsair Dominator 1066Mhz, MSI MS-7551 and 4870HD. All clocks returned to the default settings.
EDIT: I figured out what IS causing it. 11.8 DRIVERS do not work on 4870HD for me with this setup for some reason, it reports too low amount of V-RAM to DirectX.
Fixed by installing only 10.10 DRIVERS while keeping the 11.8 interface. Even though it reports now that I have 3569MB of V-RAM, I am able to play with higher resolution textures.

Rye,Maybe I should have been more precise with my words.
As for this game, and regarding the modern Army, we will never have a knife for CQB, or for any stealth mission. While I am not a BIS lead developer, that would be my bet. As I stated, it would be OK (by me) to have a mission where the player could use a knife (bayonet), but I seriously doubt BIS would go to the trouble.
And where do you get your 'info'? It surely is not from personal experience. I mean, really...
As for tunnel rats, I am sure there is nothing you could tell me that I did not know about or learn over 30 something years ago. - I, personally, do not know (of) a single person that went in a hole with a .38 revolver. '45, yes. '9mm, yes. So, you saying, "they", like it was (even, possibly) most of the tunnel rats, is completely false.
And, please, instead of just throwing statements out there you 'think' may have happened, cite some instances (from Afghanistan and Iraq), where soldiers are killing the enemy with a knife.
Regarding jamming in close quarters (you mentioned 5 meters), a soldier surely does not throw his rifle down and try to 'acquire' his bayonet (if he has one). I know I would not.
The thing that got me shaking my head the most was, when you mentioned about cutting the jugular so the target would not scream. The breaking the neck was a 'good one', too. And, please, also, tell us about the other, "number of instantly debilitating procedures", regarding a (stealth) kill. I really want to hear about those.
Oh but he has played Call of Duty and Battlefield. You know that a modern soldier can punch his knife through a ceramic armor? And that a knife is much more useful in CQC than a fully loaded rifle or a pistol. That is the general consensus in this thread.

you had me then you lost me again, i understand interpoling, now explain the next part lol and that sounds like a great feauture for simple movements, as in the game engine should "assume" u didnt jump out the plane and guess that ur moving in the same path as the plane -
can u explain this to me, because i have no idea what ur speaking of? does interpolating mean it automatically updates even if it has no client side reponse?In essence it means that your computer tries to guess what happens next. If you have ever played any of the Battlefield games and you had a disconnect and see how everything just keeps sliding, its that.
Also, it removes the "warping" almost completely but introduces a really annoying "feature" called rubber banding.

Even if BIS doesn't do it (it has to be done too you know), rest assured modders will jump all over it for many purposes, as long as the implementation allows it.But physics to do interior walking? I just don't see it happening. One missed package due network lag, and you're out of the vehicle falling to the ground. Even now that you're locked in place in a world controlled by the driver, it is pretty much impossible to be a good vehicle gunner due to net traffic. Single player or minimal lag and packet amount situations? Maybe. But I don't like SP/MP specific features.
Not sure what logandog1240 means with i know what im talking about, but Big Dawg KS gets it right - it's not that simple.
Yeah remember how Battlefield 2142 had Titans? You didn't drop off of them because it interpolated the player position. Now, ArmA 3 will most likely use the same technique as BIS added the feature in a beta patch to ArmA 2.

You remember ArmA 2 launched 2 years ago and is going to be almost playable with the newest and best parts? Now, add PhysX, RTT and a thousand light sources from DX 10. Probably even tesselation from DX. 11 with realtime reflections from different surfaces as seen in Crysis 2. You probably will not be able to even get the game running with a 4870HD and some Phenom 955 if you wish to really implement all those. Now, you'd perhaps get some 15-30fps with an 6950HD and a 2500k.
I'd like to keep the game playable, thank you.

i dont care if they personally do something with it, as long as they make it possible. I want real mfds, cameras, as in real tank interior where u see a screen of what the gun sees, not becone the end of the turretAnd you really wish to play the game with actual framerates?

If I might interject: if you're willing to make such a purchase, you might consider a cheaper nVidia card as a purely Cuda device. But why add more work to the cpu if some can be off loaded in some manner? The world is never fair! Why fuck everyone just that little more when the option the throw some a life line exist? Like 100€ more for the same framerates, and so I can play some 2 or 3 games more with playable framerates. Everyone likes to have a choice, but limiting ArmA 3 to run with H/W based physics engine limits a lot my choices for the next PC. I would like to have a game that runs on everything, not just on one graphics card manufactor.

What I would do is: make the scope the real screen and use low resolution RTT technique to create the "blur" around the scope.

The coding existed in OFP and was taken away since ArmA, animations aren't a big deal. A simple system would be enough for me. But everytime someone asks for something, guys pop up saying "there are better things to do". Great.The animations are a big deal, as it is what you see in screen. You could always have something like "scroll down, select "kill silently" option" and the enemy drops but that would not be very nice now would it? Getting a feature right is the key. Quality over quantity.

The list menu is simply and efficiently shit. I have to remove my hands from movement keys to order my AI. Or I can't fire my weapon while using the mouse wheel.
And when I use the menu, it takes me around 2 seconds to order a single command which means a good modern gun has shot around 15 bullets at me. Meanwhile I can't respond to the fire nor I can move if I wish to order the AI.
Also I often misclick the number keys and I have to start all over again, even revert the command which takes me a shitload of time and gets me killed.
Then with the BF2 radial menu I can't fire but I can order everything I NEED to, in 0.2 seconds as it has only 8 (/16 PR) options per commo-rose button.
