    Havok is "open" engine by intel, and is optimized to work on CPU. That is why it would be better in my opinion.

    So, coding and animations? What else would there be? Getting them right is the problem.   11. This works the same, as an object gets further away, it is drawn on less pixels so you won't see as many details anyway. So, LODs are not needed if you do not care about performance.

    Yes it uses PhysX for something like ropes, but not for simulating overall physics. It is a bit different.
  13. But the problem is that you can not run the game anyway if you really draw everything in 15km. Sure it would be freaking awesome if you could. What I'd do is draw shadows for a longer range.

    PhysX is the feature, it can be done on GPU and it can be done on CPU. Although if BIS has a chance of doing it on GPU and ALSO doing it on CPU without having the CPU performance to be shit, fine by me. But if they apply Apex without option to turn it off, good bye for me if I don't have an Nvidia card by then.
  15. The sound engine is bad, a major improvement in OA from A2 though, as I can now play more than 16 sounds at once. I expect to see reverbs improved in A3, as they have got the samples right.

    But the PhysX has its code gimped by Nvidia if it is run on CPU so it is not really good if you aren't running it on a GPU. Especially if ArmA 3 makes use of Apex. The problem here is, PhysX is mostly calculated on CUDA cores, if you run it on a CPU, it will not run as good. So, people with Nvidia cards have a large advantage in FPS if BIS will support GPU calculated PhysX.

    And the amount of work needed to do them right is much more than 10 years ago, since you are used to much better quality in video games than 10 years ago.
  18. This is something one of the most stupid things I have seen in these forums, you all whine about "optimization" but then again you don't want to lose anything? You "optimize" something by removing something from it to increase the overall performance. Did you really think how heavy the game will be if you draw everything on the map at all times? BIS could do it, but then again nobody would be able to play it. BIS could have everything drawn in maximal resolution at 10km with no maximal detailed LODs but then again, nobody would be able to play it. This is something you really need to understand, if you wish to be able to play it, you need to have some drawbacks in rendering. Especially now that there is physics calculations done by PhysX and technologies such as RTT, the hardware requirements increase a lot. Not to mention that DX 10 supports basically unlimited light sources, drawing all of them for a really long range to every object is just a lag-fest.

    Seriously, do you REALLY think anyone will use a knife or a bayonet in arma? This is something like those woman soldiers, nobody will use them and they take a lot of resources to do it right.

    Just saying, you don't bring a knife to a gun fight.     Now that would be really awesome, I'd love to mess around with it. Think of the custom map possibilities with some super wind and other variables that you can change!!
