  1. i have to say i quite like the "on-screen text" in white, true it is harder to see on a white background but you could argue the same with green on-screen text on a green background or with NV use, with the use of green, blue, white or brown on-screen text there are always going to be things in the "natural world" that Arma/TKoH are mimicking that the on-screen text will blend into. I concur about the “options menu (mouse wheel/buttons)†having moved from being positioned central to the left screen edge ware it has always been since OFP to being ~25% of the screen width away from the left screen edge and ~10% down from the screen top edge.
  2. PC = I7 920 @ 2.66ghz, 6gb ram (3x2gb) @ 2.66ghz, GF 560Ti 2gb @ default, 64bit win7pro. A2OA/TKOH settings: video resolution=1600x900 @ 100% 3d res visibility=3000m obj. view distance=1736m (TKOH) texture detail=very high vid mem=default AF=norm AA=off terrain detail=norm object detail=high shadows=high HDR=norm PP=off vsync=off benchmark E08 = >54fps <69fps (it never plays threw the same!)
  3. Well I looked at the GPU loadings, memory wise it’s getting to use up to <1250mb after a period of play so far (I use “default†for in game video memory setting which I believe uses up to the detected amount in the TKOHPreview.cfg), the GPU utilisation load has the odd spike to 100% but for the most part (99.9% of the time) is between >55% <80% of use.
  4. There is some mileage in that statement though it’s not the full truth given no single CPU core is being used 100%, the main core is being used >50% <80% the other cores are for the most part >10% <50% use. I haven’t looked at the GPU loads. Its most likely to be the detail of the gauges and displays being rendered in real time as well as some aliments of the physics modal being more complex.
  5. Yes just as per you, inside/outside and vs. default A2/OA helicopters, it’s still smooth though and it’s not taxing any of the CPU cores above ~80% with the other 3 at ~<40% but I haven’t figured out how to get it to work in combined operations mode rather than in just A2OA mode so I can try the A2 terrain. PC = I7 920 @ 2.66ghz, 6gb ram (3x2gb) @ 2.66ghz, GF 560Ti 2gb @ default, 64bit win7pro.
  6. First, I am not a pilot but I have been at the controls of helicopters a couple of times over the past 30 years, however it seems to me that that there is to much effective lift at minimum collective pitch This is either because the helicopter it to light, Gravity at ~9.81m/sec is not working correctly giving the correct mass, Air is to dense at a standard atmospheric pressure and altitude, The down thrust effect assigned to the main rotor at a given collective pitch is too high, Next it’s the function of “load†i.e. fuel/payload/passengers etc. there seems to be insufficient effect of passenger weights vs. required collective pitch and cyclic deflections to initiate movement/change/etc. and thus the countering of torque, also there is the effect on control trim pre and post “load†e.g. you would expect there to be a change in required control trim between a lone pilot and then the addition of 3 passengers at an additional ~225kg distributed uniformly around the rotor CoG, I.e. a change in the countering of torque to account for the extra power required for the extra collective pitch for lifting the extra weight. a change in general cyclic deflection from the position countering the weight of the pilot in the ~10:30h position relative to the rotor CoG (cyclic deflected slightly to the ~04:30h position to support that pilot weight) to a more central cyclic deflection with 3 passengers or changes appropriate for single passenger in addition to the pilot in either the other front seat or any of the rear seats. I am sure I do detect some change in the above but the effects are just to mute given the high proportion in weight a single ~75kg (+-25kg) person is relative to the MD500 like light helicopter, e.g. I am between~ 1/11th and ~1/16th of the MTW or between ~1/5th to ~1/7th OEW of MD500, or if you have ever driven a car which merely sits on 4 wheels you will have noticed a drastic change you feel between driving with just yourself and when you have 4 adult people in a car some ware between a Smart car and a basic Golf/ford Focus in total weight. After all the carrying of that extra weight is reliant on the compressibility of air and power and not just the mere resting on 4 wheels! But then what do I know.
  7. I have to say i find that there is a big difference in FPS between internal (~>30fps) and external (~>75fps) views i.e. when you stand by the helicopter looking forwards vs. being in the helicopter looking forwards in the same direction.

    What's Your Setup?

    i use a MS FFB2, seams ok just like in ARMA II/etc Detected Joystick: SideWinder Force Feedback 2 Joystick 0 ... X Axis [1,30] 1 ... Y Axis [1,31] 5 ... Z Rotation [1,35] 6 ... Slider [1,36]
  9. The out of memory error could be happening due to the wrong RAM timings or overclocking RAM etc. I have 6gb of RAM and my pagefile is disabled so an amount of my RAM will be used dynamically as VM/pagefile, after 2 hours or so of playing A2/OA and loading different maps/missions my available/free RAM is 0mb and I get no errors as the portion used by VM is being purged of the least used oldest data with more often used files relating to A2/OA just like your pagefile would, as my RAM is not generating errors 100% of my RAM can be addressed without error, if your PC can only address 99.99% or less of your RAM without error then sooner or later that >0.01% that cannot be addressed due to error WILL be tried to be used by your PC unsuccessfully causing an out of memory error. just a thought.
  10. Oh the irony  ---------- Post added at 03:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:40 PM ---------- d'oh ;)
  11. If BI or people who have permission from BI to post images, video or information it still doesn’t affect NDA’s that other are held to or lessen/void them in any way! In this case only BI can tell any person if and how much of the NDA still applies to that person, So if in doubt say/do nothing!
  12. One would assume that if you are held under a NDA that you are bound by it until the agreed expiree point contained within the NDA is reached ;)
  13. yes I know its called an "OFFENDER" but if you read the description for it says "Land Rover" and also says 1948 which was the year for Land Rovers production commencement with the series 1 ;) http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/toddysspace/arma2oa_offroad_land_rover.jpg > 100 kb
  14. well I don’t know, the land rover has a bulbar and the thing in the centre of the grill, a WARN winch with a bumper with no towing point and 4 spotlights, a steering guard, Goodyear G90 sidewalls with hybrid BFG-MT/XZL 235/85r16 on wolf wheels, no wing top vents as per 90/110/130 along with late modal indicators on the side of the wings (not on early ones) and RH wing side vent (wrong for age) it also has the wrong headlights/side lights and indicators for its age, it has tyre pressure shown in white above the wheels, its missing side lockers (though not always fitted), it has vinyl side windows in the soft top, the spot welds on the side panel for the bulkhead should be ~2ft (~60cm) further forward (its not a crew cab or station wagon with 4 doors), the rope hooks for the soft top on the side panel are to close together and should be the full length of the side panels, the snorkel is missing (>50% of early ones had them), and given its age it has the wrong type of logo format on the front panel above the grill, also it has windscreen wipers set up for a LHD on a RHD bulkhead  what would be the chances of having a RHD early N/A 2.5L 110 (pre defender) in front line service in 2012 with all the above faults! (about 0%) :lecture: come on BIS the 90/110/130 have been I production for long enough both in the civilian and military/ex military markets for simpleton mistakes like the above NOT to happen even if you wished to dodge licensing problems.
  15. mmm Cannabis sativa plants @ 0:36 Papaver somniferous (poppies) in OA, though a bit past being slit! so in the next DLC will there be Erythroxylum coca plants? ;)

    Articulated Vehicles

Personally I would much prefer the fixing of the existing shortcomings of “vehicular physics†before BI even attempt to add semi trailer/trailer/frame steering “articulation†proper
  17. I had the same problem, I put it down to a problem with the bridge vs. a vehicle you may use to get there though luckily I saved the game ~300m from the bridge/handover point. It took about 20 attempts trying different things and placing my team in different places, even after it if you got threw the handover on the bridge your collection via helicopter would be bugged and you could not get into it and every time you faced in the direction of the bridge objects with transparent textures would disappear (trees etc) and there would be a problem with object clipping. In the end I exited and restarted the game, then with my team when on foot to the left of the bridge to the hillock overlooking the pool by the bridge ware I placed them laying prone facing ware the solders would come from, I then left them to go back to the truck to drive it to near the bridge parking it on the right on the bit of grass just before the bridge (ware the truck ends up in the cut-scene), the cut-scene starts but rather than all my team ending up on the bridge with me as per all the other times they stayed on the hillock and engaged the attacking solders and everything worked perfectly. So it is either exiting the game back to desktop and restarting it then playing from the save before the bridge &/or placing your men on the hillock to the left of the bridge that clears the buggy logic that is causing the freeze after the cut-scene, though ironically I did send my men to the same spot the first time I played as my backup for the handover, so I would say exiting the game and restarting it then loading the last save before the bridge is perhaps rewriting buggy scripts that weren’t getting rewritten during successive reloading of save points in the first place! (I.e. there were element of what you had done in the rest of “dogs of war†that are NOT written in save files BUT are remaining in the computer memory across multiple reloading of saves until the game is exited back to desktop then restarted)
  18. Take steam games, it has a registered part of it in the UK which serves as the method to apply VAT etc and the distribution of VAT to EU member states for purchases by people in that relevant country, thus ALL the applicable VAT for the EU enters the system via the HMRC (UK tax department) who then distribute it to the respective EU countries treasuries/tax department. If the above was not the case then it would be illegal for steam games (if they were a USA company without part of the company being registered in the EU) to levy US federal taxes or VAT on an export out of the USA and they would have NO mandate to apply EU taxes/VAT on imports into the EU as there company wouldn’t be resident in the EU. By implication of how tax/VAT is levied via as in an EU import by e.g. steam games means my rights my rights as an EU citizen should be applied and take precedence. Working the other way imports from the USA to the UK vs. UK import duty/VAT given $9.99 = ~£6.40 = ~€7.80 (including taxes) If e.g. steam games or sprocket as publishers get a fixed price per sale and BI get the remainder then BI would make more money by EU citizens purchasing from the EU country with the lowest VAT rate, they the customer would still pay €8.99 BUT there would be more percent of that €8.99 left over after taxes to support BI. Yes the above and my prior post may seam like penny pinching  BUT it also comes down to principle and ones rights in a single competitive free market. ;)
  19. So is BI going to force its publishers/distributors of the DLC (like steam or sprocket) to stick to the letter of EU law with respect to cross border trade for citizens of EU member states to elect to purchase any item from another EU member state and to pay the relevant taxes in that EU member state rather than their own so they may take advantage of currency changes like £ vs. € or different prices in € between EU member state due to the application of how taxes like VAT is applied at different percentages? I only ask because I exercise my right to do this quite often as I run my own company and purchase equipment and parts from the cheapest places around the EU. e.g. I would like to by in € rather than in £ as it IS cheaper for me and I have a RIGHT to do so rather than be forced into paying in £ because steam/sprocket want to make more money by doing precisely NOTHING bar potentially charge for converting £ to € rather than it be converted at little or no cost at the time of purchase via the credit or debit card company!

    Running OA Out of steam?

    By using the beta patches
  22. I hear a roomer today, that with today’s defence review announcement by ministers in Whitehall which will affect future deployments and equipment budgets that BI in order to maintain realism for 2012 the DLC will now only contain only the L85A2, GPMG, Warrior and Lynx and that Shapur will be reduced to 2km2, also in order that the Trident Nuclear deterrent may be replaced now its funding has been passed directly to the MoD that the DLC will now cost £17.99/€18.99/$19.99 :butbut:

    Steam question

just copy your Valve folder to the new HDD, then click on Steam.exe which will write to the registry the new location of steam. you will just need to point desktop and start-menu Shortcut's to location of Steam.exe or delete the old Shortcut's then within steam select "desktop shortcut" for each game then drag and drop them into the start menu>all programs>steam haven’t reinstalled steam or any games for years, i just do the above to move it around HDD's

    Light vehicles destruction

Its quite funny peoples perceptions. A full petrol tank is safer then one that has lots of air space filled with freshly introduced air. A rifle bullet or two is NOT going to set a fuel tank on fire at first, but it will leave some nice holes for petrol to leak out. 2 bullets is potentially 4 holes. In 1min 10L of petrol could leak out of 4 holes. 10L of petrol would have quite a spread if it leaked onto a hard surface like a road. After 1min on a warm day on a hard tarmac surface which would be hotter than the ambient temperature the air around the vehicle would be heavily saturated with petrol vapour due to the large surface area for maximum evaporation and optimum fuel/air mix. If after the 2 initial bullets above and the passing of >1min then another volley of shots come it hitting bodywork, steel wheel rims and skipping off the road surface the chances of some sparks is quite high and if they were from a MG there may be tracers every e.g. 15th round. If it ignites the vapour you will get a good voom as the vapours ignite which will extend across the ground well away from the spill and any petrol on the ground still in liquid form will continue to burn no doubt under the vehicle and fuel still leaking will continue to feed the fire. When the petrol level in the tank passes beneath the highest hole lots of air will be drawn into the tank along with flames rapidly igniting the vapour/air mix in the tank, if the air space is sufficient because the holes were low down in the tank then over-pressure will happen from the expansion of gasses at best splitting the tank with a mini explosion and rapid flashover. FYI: The dynamics of a common vehicle fire there is little or no fuel leaking and any fuel that dose leak is instantly burnt and the vapour doesn’t spread, there is also generally to higher saturation of vapour for the amount of air in the fuel tank and also an amount of positive pressure in the tank which effectively razes the vapour and boiling points of petrol JUST like positive pressure dose for e.g. water. So in short I would take cover behind a car for the first few bullets (its better than having nothing to hide behind) but after 1min or so and the first smell of leaking petrol I would be looking to get away from it. ;)

Free view and Aim (infantry only)

So basically an additional key to do the reverse of keypad 5, I.e. instead of re-centring head to that of the body thus the gun it re-centres the body/gun to the head direction. It would no doubt require a new set of animation kinematics for when prone, I.e. the character rolling onto its left or right side wile bringing the gun around and the tilting of the head view vertically 90deg to mimic laying on the side (the ground would appear vertically up the screen when done when prone laying on ones side ) after all if it cannot be done properly then it shouldn’t be done at all.
