    Patch 1.56 Bug reports

No, it doesn't come bundled, you need to apply the 1.56 patch seperately. Good to know I'm not the only one. Is there anyone else who has the same? Or perhaps more importantly, is there anyone with a fix? :p

    Dedicated server for SP

I don't think you can host campaign games on another computer though, not as a dedi anyway. I think that'll only work for sp scenarios converted to mp (like the standard ones on the server Vik).

    Combined Operations update

    agree with the OP :)
  4. Sounds like a good plan! Maybe then it won't be such a struggle to actually hit something from a heli... or maybe that's just my incompetence. :p

XM-8 skin quality for Combined Ops users

Vilas, from what I hear they actually have the old arma2 xm8 the lite texture (as in, even people who bought a2 and as such already had that rifle suddenly have the lite version if they don't buy pmc). This kind of means that a piece of software is being re-sold to them, under the pretence if new content. Sounds fishy to me. :P I'll have to take other people's word for it though, I didn't check it out myself do I can't speak from experience. But if it is the case then its just a little unfair.

    Patch 1.56 Bug reports

After installing PMC and the 1.56 patch, when I tried to connect to the (also updated to 1.56) server it kicked me out, showing the error message: "You were kicked from the game. Battleye: corrupted memory #0" While this is of course a battleye problem, it did happen only AFTER I installed the patch and DLC, which points to them being the major culprit here. I have looked through the .RPT but can't find anything directly relating to these kicks. I'm running the game on Windows7 Home Premium 64bit, a GTX470, 8GB RAM, i7 860 2.8ghz. Any logical explanation/semi-easy fix? I hope a re-install isn't the only answer, especially since I'm afraid I'd take ages installing and then encounter the very same problem. :P !!!!! EDIT: A serverside manual update of Battleye (download latest Battleye server update from the BE site and upload it to the battleye folder in the server arma2 root) will fix this problem!
  7. I had a very quick look in the editor and so far it seems slightly underwhelming. I'm sure there's stuff I can use in missions but the map is quite small again and while the units are OK, I already had most weapons in A2 (the XM8 is basically lifted from A2 and put into the DLC I guess, except for some minor changes that I could see. Also, no CQB sights!). Helicopter and SUV with minigun are pretty badass but it looks like they went with the 'cool'-factor more to appease the easily impressed gamer rather than go with what would really enrich the game. Shotgun is a nice addition though. I'll take a closer look later on, and probably do a little video review as well.

XM-8 skin quality for Combined Ops users

Nope, they left out the secondary sights from what I can see. That's a shame really, I won't be using those guns. :(

XM-8 skin quality for Combined Ops users

Nah, I think you're right. People paid for the stuff by getting A2, so it's a bit weird they took it out simply because it's in a new DLC> That's like re-selling the game! :P +1 on your suggestion mate, seems only fair. :)

    make copilots to can fly

If you throw it in autohover though maybe that would decrease the sense of urgency. I wouldn't mind having the copilot struggle to get his bearings and take over controls, as long as it is clear enough to him that he is, in fact, taking over controls. ;)
  11. Von_Lipwig

    make copilots to can fly

You actually make a very good point there made. You convinced me ;) I didn't think of that at all and it would indeed be quite emberassing that upon pilot death the helicopter would make a double salto and dip into the ground nose-first.

    Where do you play?

We actually do have a server, I'll post an ip and name when I get back from work :) and of course put up a sticky on our forums, thanks for the heads up!

    make copilots to can fly

So when the current pilot dies, the other would still have to choose between 'yes' and 'no'? I don't think there will be many, if ANY people would would refuse that, so why not make it automatic? :)
  14. Von_Lipwig

    make copilots to can fly

I think the best way would be this: Pilot - action menu: "release controls" Then copilot gets prompted with a message and has to either accept or reject,so: "accept controls? -yes -no" Same the other way around: Copilot action menu: "request controls" And the pilot can accept or deny as well. As Seany says, controls transfer would be executed automatically upon current pilot's death.

Tips for a new online gamer?

Try armaholic.com, that site has loads of addons. I believe though that ACE2 his its own updater suite called six updater. That has all the latest changes, I think the version on armaholic is a bit old.
  16. I googled this to no avail: Is it possible to give ambient life (such as goats, sheep etc.) waypoints, or have them follow an NPC? I want to have a goatherder cross the road at some point (there's no real point to it other than it being funny and vaguely realistic) and I would like to have his sheep/goats move across the road with him, but I have been unable to actually assign waypoints or groups to ambient life... which I guess is not really a priority of BIS' :P But I'm wondering if it is possible at all to have ambient life move at will? Thanks in advance for any answers!

Arma II & OA User Video Thread

I'll be sure to tell him that ;) Oh boy will that boost his ego... he will become insufferable, mark my words!
  18. Perhaps because the loading screen images were kind of touched up by photoshop... or is that blasphemny? :P Alternatively, maybe some environmental colouring modules can come into play. I also find another thing that blurs a lot is Post-processing effects. If you turn those to low, is everything still fuzzy?

    Squad Logos.

Yeah, most new units (notably the British DLC units, but there are some more) are missing the patch/logo. Which really is a shame because I put a lot of work into it ;) It does work on UN and US troops and most A2 units though as far as I know. :) I guess it's just the new DLC units that didn't get any .xml love :( By the way, for those that need it, here's a handy program for editing/creating your squad XML: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=1490 To implement it, WillaCHilla's link is more than sufficient. :) To create the images, you need to make them either JPG (no transparancy possible) or convert them to .paa, which you can do with TEXview, a BIS developing program.

    Editor Unit-Loadout concept

Definitely a good idea, and I would endorse Carlgustaffa's second (and first ;) ) ideas he posted on Devheaven as well. It would make editing so much easier, especially for newcomers but also for more intermediate users. Saying it is not worth it and unnecessary because people can do it 'easily' now too seems strange to me. The editor is NOT intuitive for novice users. I loved that advertisement video that BIS made showcasing how easy the editor was to use, showing all kinds of lists and classnames in the second video that 'we will not show you HOW to do it just now, all that matters is that you know they are there'. :P Talk about frustration! It would make the editor much easier to get into if some aspects of it were streamlined. Of course a fully functional 3d editor that can export missions to MP is high on the wish-list but for now a streamlined and polished 2d editor is more than we can wish for, and this would be a step in the right direction as far as I'm concerned.

    make copilots to can fly

I fully support this. Helicopter flying would be much more immersive, not to mention realistic, if pilot and copilot could hand eachother the controls of the chopper. Of course, this would be most handy on an organised multiplayer game where one person would not hog the controls all the time. It could be made that at any time, copilot could request the controls (pilot would have to agree) or pilot could give the controls (copilot would have to agree) through the action menu. It would happen automatically when one of them died. With a trained, communicating human helicopter crew, this could mean, control switches in under a second for seamless flying where the higher-ranking pilot lets the peter pilot fly the main course as the officer coordinates/communicates, and then takes over for the main maneuvre (ie insertion or some such). This could serve to train new pilots as well, when the instructor can take over controls when things are starting to go wrong. --- It could be made optional at the mission making stage, possibly by means of a module or adding a certain line in the chopper's init field? This way, this rather fragile option (I'm not lying, it could be abused in larger, disorganised multiplayer scenarios) could be left out where redundant or unnecessary but included where it would enrich gameplay. :)

    =NF= The Naked Fanatics

The Naked Fanatics The ArmA section The Bald Eagles section Our server It has been a while since I updated anything here, and I would like to take this chance to do so! Some propaganda Of course, this whole post, nay this whole thread is propaganda. But it's going to be a bit more visible in this bit. -The Naked Fanatics are, as previously stated, a fun-loving multi-gaming group that formed over four years ago. Lately, some of us have started focusing on ArmA and we have grown considerably since then. This is mainly due to ur easy-going, relaxed attitude when it comes to other players. When in our server, you will find yourself urged to follow orders and generally play smart, but you will not be shouted at if you make a mistake. We try and enforce proper comms, but we do NOT insist on 'sir' or saluting. We don't even have fixed ranks; everyone is an equal. Of course, when in missions we need to have leadership, but leadership positions are open to ANYONE, including new members or even random players as long as they exhibit the qualities required. Find us at http://www.nakedfanatics.com -The Bald Eagles are a subgroup of the Naked Fanatics and accepts NF members as well as new members into its ranks. Our primary focus is ArmA and the realism that comes with it, without losing the relaxed attitude of our parent group the Naked Fanatics. Our joining requirements are pretty easy-going (more so than those of the Naked Fanatics) and you can find yourself to be a member within as little as three weeks! This period is mainly a familiarisation period to get acquainted to all the members; no training is required. We believe that people will learn the appropriate skills through action and practise, and we are never too busy to help people figure out something or to teach people how to do things. Find us at http://nakedfanatics.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=50 Members and Growth We have been getting a good influx of new members. Many of them come from either the Youtube videos or from finding us by chance in game... and they stick around. We have been having full servers with an increasing regularity, especially when we are running Insurgency. For this reason, we increased our server slots to 24 (instead of 16), to offer room to more people and make for even more awesome missions! Missions Several of our members have begun learning to use to editor and as a result we have been getting some lovely varied missions on the server, for Chernarus and Takistan alike. This means that we can offer a more varied mission assortment than ever, and this will only increase as our new mission makers improve on their skill and start pumping out more missions! Regular Events As it stands, we have two weekly events that we all try and attend (to varying success). These are Cherno Friday and the Sunday Event. On Cherno Friday, we usually play missions based on one of the original two islands for ArmA2, mainly enjoy the trees, grassy fields and sea breeze. On the Sunday Event, we usually pick one of our many custom made missions and play them with as many people as possible, and in an organised manner. We are also planning a new regular event. This would be a monthly Pro-Event, during which we would most likely lock the server and endeavor to make everything as realistic as possible, including firing drills, formations, communication, ROE and so on. This would take our regular conduct a notch up. Bald Eagles Since the last update, the Bald Eagles have grown tremendously, and we now have over twice the amount of members with which we started! I am glad to welcome Viking, Skipper, OAAN, EDcase, Rik and Daftmedic to the original group of Thorin, Bloodbane, Porkyjack, O'Brien, Gibbon and myself! We also set up more comprehensive joining requirements (which are not difficult to attain, I might add) and instituted a polling system by which applicants can become members. Becoming a Bald Eagle is your first step to becoming a Naked Fanatic if you wish to... but you're more than welcome to remain a Bald Eagle and receive all the benefits! The past few weeks have shown that the Bald Eagles offer what I intended it to offer: sportsmanship, a friendly atmosphere, leadership when needed, professionalism in game and generally a hell of a lot of fun! Team AgentOrange Our server would not have been half as full without these guys and I think because of that they need particular mention. Since the starting days of our server on Operation Arrowhead, they have been coming into our server (after finding it by chance, which seems to be an excellent recruiting method, come to think of it) and populating it even when we were not online ourselves. The fact that they uphold nearly identical values to ours only makes this more fortunate! We hope to be able to welcome you into our server for a long time to come, and I also hope that our communities will be able to complement eachother even more! :) For anyone reading this, you can find team AgentOrange here. Youtube I am sorry, but I have not been uploading many videos to Youtube lately. However, I see our last post here is quite old and as a result I still have quite a few videos to show you! (I can feel you cringe behind the computer) UAV Retrieval In this mission, a British force needs to secure a C130 crash site in Garmsar and find the UAV it was carrying. If the UAV is not aboard the aircraft wreckage, search for it in the surrounding area. Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Air Assault and Old Footage This mission was a favourite on the server for a long time until Insurgency was uploaded (and until everyone got sick of the mission after playing it for much :P ) Part 1 - Part 2 - Saving UNO (another try) In this mission, a QRF must race to a UN-held farmhouse on the sloped east of Rasman to defend against a concerted Takistani assault. This mission can be quite tough at times. Part 1 - Part 2 - Nagara Exercise An exercise following a training session. We are assaulting Nagara from the west, through the Maygul Valley. Part 1 - Part 2 - Playtesting UN Patrol Playtesting UN Patrol before using it for a Sunday Event. Part 1 - Part 2 - UN Patrol, Sunday Event After some changes, the UN Patrol marched into our Sunday Event. And it went horribly, horribly wrong... Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 5 - IED Search In this mission, a British force has to make its way to Timurkalay and destroy an IED Cache there. The area is already strewn with IEDs though so care is needed. Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Grand Theft SCUD A group of insurgents go to steal a SCUD launcher, and then have to race back to base! Part 1 - Part 2 - Ambush in Black Forest A guerilla group ambushes a Russian convoy and then needs to make its way to the exfil point. Scenes from a cockpit Just soem scenes from a helicopter cockpit. #1 - Random/fun footage Assorted footage from those fun moments on a server that don't really make it into any other videos... #1 - #2 - --- Visit us! Be sure to visit us at http://www.nakedfanatics.com ! Introduce yourself and play with us! All our info can be found throughout this thread! We're all looking forward to seeing new faces and playing with new people! If you think we are the right group for you, join us!

Arma II & OA User Video Thread

Ambush in Black Forest F9ZEQmPvs1s Video footage from a game a few days ago. We orchestrated an ambush that gets interrupted by a slightly too trigger-happy fellow Guerilla, but we manage to come away from that largely unscathed. Then, all we need to do is extract to the exfil point... Enjoy. :)

Tips for a new online gamer?

I don't think you can go wrong with pretty much any Sennheiser or Logitech above 20-30 quid. Bought mine for 60 but I guess I was in a bit of a funny mood. I usually end up wearing my headset only half-covering my ears as I also want to be able to hear what's going on around me, don't want to look around finding out my house is on fire. :P And yeah, I would say it is a must, or at least it will be if you are planning on playing with an organised group. Communication is key in games like this. Contact reports go much faster when you speak them as opposed to typing... and this will save lives ;) --- I think that if you play around with the editor and play missions you made on a daily basis, you probably have the basics down already. ;) Respawning can be different per mission. For example, on the normal respawn method you simply respawn at a marker. In warfare and some other missions you can pick your respawn point from a list. In Insurgency, you can spawn on a base or on your group members. And so on. Really, the best way to learn is to jump in there... but with ArmA, it had better be a somewhat calculated jump... joining a group is perfect for situations like this. More often than not they will show you the ropes (or at least the ropes you haven't seen yet) and ease you into online play. :)

    Fal

I don't think you will find many people here who would be annoyed by someone bashing CoD ;) I usually fire on semi with all weapons that allow it.
