Daytime thermal use - 'cheating' ?

Well yeah but the problem original issue isn't even the most obvious one I think. Most people can see that the FLIR isnt exactly like reality in daytime, but still the flir tech in the game is still new and can be worked on. Balances of weapon loadouts are a lot easier to balance you'd think. That seems valid to me, i think people get annoying because it takes some effort to get a really good game otherwise things can go crap pretty quickly.

Well each person making a "Thanks thread" and not much else, is pretty much spam, since theres a thread for thanks. People "moan" because we realise how amazing this game is and we all want it to get better. Just quietly ignoring it probably wont lead to it being improved. (if it does actually need improving mind you)

    Arma 2 or arma 2 oa ?

yeah its not really an "either or". Although OA is stand alone it really works best as an extension.

Man, some more non-combatants would be awesome. Maybe roaming tradings and civvies. Too bad a lot of people already struggle with performance :(

Lets not forget Musashi's "Book of Five Rings", however to behonest, I do not have sound faith in your approach to be honest. If Arma WAS reality, it would be valid, but its obviously not the case. Also you're citing some pretty outstanding amazing achievements. Winning a casual battle or Arma shouldnt take a lifetime amazing performance if the other side is performing just alright. Im sure you're aware that those examples you used had plenty of factors that lead to their success that are not exactly viable in a game. Furthermore, the entire BLUEFOR side has access to thermal imaging, where more reasonable games will usually have thermal limited to squad leaders and special ops. It makes sense and is more accurate. To be honest, I LOVE the fact that OPFOR has to work a bit harder, to use more cunning. But I'd prefer if it was balanced closer to reality. (OPFOR would normally have local knowledge, or more inside contacts, use of the people, secret paths etc) Cheers, Sheepy

Well, that would be a whole lot easier if Arma actually did CQC well, but its really still an open game. With the change of enviornment to eastern european woodlands to hilly sand dunes. About the only thing I can do is make sure im not sihouletted and travel by valley. Buildings arent really used that much, (I'd say in part due to the controls which work amazingly well in open terrain but nowhere near as good in tight spaces). Do Arma servers allow for auto balancing? As im not really against the disadvantage, but more peoples tendency to go more BLUEFOR than OPFOR, leading to regularly unbalanced teams. (i assume this is just the servers ive played on but doesnt hurt to ask)

In player vs player combat, is there some sort of modifier that makes up for OPFOR having no thermal imaging? To be honest I keep having the same problems where I know there is definitely an enemy in an area but I dont even get much time to look as with thermal imaging they can spot me clearly from a 1000 yards away. I love how cool it looks, and its awesome for co-op, but people tend to flock to BLUEFOR to get the better stuff.
  8. This could of been a much better thread before OP goes and calls out MW2 and BC2. What he said in relation to them isnt as important as even hearing those acronyms makes people jump and start arguing a point that wasnt the point of the thread in the first place. Yes yes, its a hardcore game, and I love and hate some parks of the movement system. I like that the soldier has some weight, one of my favorite things is going from a sprint to a dive. However some of the CQC movement feels really difficult, theres a reason why theres no real building combat. Its not a matter of realism to be honest. On a similar note, I think one of the truly innovative things about ARMA controls is the head control, I love being able to run straight and look left and right. Looks really cool, makes it feel so much more real and best of all, its actually useful in the game.
  9. Well the High Command tutorial tells you the meaning for the all the NATO symbols. Or do you mean some others?
  10. To be honest Arma II really needs a page with all the hotkeys. Even the manual doesnt include them all.
  11. Ahh it was that easy then! Oh and by GPS i meant switching it from the COORDs mode to the MAP as it has the tabs at the bottom of the GPS. Thanks so much, I hate how large the compass is!
  12. Still havent figured out if I can resize the compass/watch/gps , I could of sworn I have before. (also cant remember the GPS mode switch hotkey..)
  13. Ahh I didnt know you could edit them. Unfortunately for veteran, permanent hud is one of the locked on ones. Oh well, i'll have to live with it. Another problem I have. I believe I used to be able to scale the compass/watch etc down or up in size but I cant figure out how to do it. Also I cant remember how to switch the GPS between the MAP and COORDs mode. Thanks again ^^
  14. I'm not particularly new, however I just installed OA and noticed that the checkpoint markers dissapear after a few seconds and I need to bring the map up to make them reappear for a short time. I dont know if this always happened, but I really wish they didnt dissapear. Is there a way to fix it?
  15. Finally fixed my setup. I had bought Combined Ops from Sprocket. The problem was the Arma II install via sprocket didnt setup the registry paths properly, so it didnt detect that the game was installed. (neither did the patch) So each game was installed in its own folder. However, after fixing the registry paths manually and reinstalling AO via the sprocket setup, it detected it and sent it to the Arma directory. So I guess the easiest way was to just manually rechange the directory to the Arma II one. P.s the batch file did work, however it wasnt showing Arma II in the expansions, so I thought I'd reinstall OA just to be sure.
