    Story problem.

For the record: the Iranians aren't using Tavors. The Tavors are in the blufor box where they belong.

The Fictional MX Rifle series, why?

So Sundowner . . . can I buy some greentips off of you? :o

The Fictional MX Rifle series, why?

The handguard is big. Like really big. I've seen some of the ambidextrous demonstrations, but I just don't feel that there's anything that it does substantially better than the ACR. I'm (obviously) more of a bullpup fan anyway when it comes to 21st century rifles, but I really think that systems like the Remington (not bush) ACR, 805 Bren, and Tavor have a lot more to offer than the Beretta series guns.

    thermal viev in arma

I .Does the Arma 3 alpha have flir in anything other than the boats? I feel like I've explored it pretty well. I've gotten my girlfriend to play Arma 2 on a regular basis, but she has a hard time with target identification and loves using the FLIR because it makes life easier for her. I'd get a lot more lan happening with Arma if there was a riflesight with thermal capabilites in the Alpha. And back to the original point: yes, it would be good to get at least white hot and black hot polarity. Maybe an instalert in there too, but please god no predator vision.

Nice to see the TRG (TAR21) rifles improving!

I've very interested to see more with the fatigue system as the Alpha develops. If you've ever handled an M14 in a sage chassis you'll agree: they're heavy! That is one of the heaviest .308 platforms I've ever used. I love being able to zero my rifles in all the arma series. I hope more of that comes in as we see more optics appearing. Curious as to what sort of reticle they use in the higher power scopes. Mildot is a little bit old fashioned these days. I know a few people who really like Horus, but I'd love to see something like an Vortex EBR reticle available!
  6. Big shout out to BIS for the newest update! These new iron sights on the TRG series rifles are a big improvement. As a Tavor owner: I am super excited to see my rifle in the game, and like to see all the different variations. For anyone unfamiliar, BIS recently swapped out the diamondback sights on the TRG to something reminiscent of a KAC micro-sight. Old http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8527/8590311293_9d3f296e45_c.jpg (241 kB) (241 kB) New http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8369/8591373048_960bf25042_b.jpg (325 kB) Take a close look at that new screen shot, then look at what's in my safe. :D http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8381/8590312849_d1171c0e38_h.jpg (1801 kB) Although I dooooo notice that the charging handle is still reciprocating. From a mechanical standpoint this is an unlikely evolution of the Tavor platform of rifles. Bullpup shooters usually don't like having a handle slamming back and forth close to their body. Right now: http://www.flickr.com/photos/23971951@N02/8590341521/in/photostream See what I mean by non reciprocating here? Zero movement when firing. Like this: Maybe some day! Things like the sights or the angle or the rail or the shape of the charging handle don't bug me. (its the future! Go nuts!) But everytime I see that little animation pinging back and forth on my in-game gun I have to laugh a little. Pretty amazing that the guns and sights in the alpha are almost exactly what I've been using for the past 2 years :D

The Fictional MX Rifle series, why?

I handled the ARX-160 at Shot Show this year. Not a fan. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8189/8384578577_ec0df942e7_b.jpg (360 kB)
  8. I'm a big fan of the simulation side of Arma. I love being able to read targets, adjust elevation and windage, etc. I've seen lots of posts about weapon resting, thats something I want. This is something different I'd love to see: multi-stage reloads. The idea is a simple simulation of reality: when my rifle on the range is dry, I don't just perform one action to put a new magazine in. I remove the empty mag. I insert the full mag. I hit the bolt release to chamber the first round. Is there any reason those stages couldn't be bound to different keys that have to happen sequentially? I was in love with Red Orchestra when I had to click again to rack the bolt on my Kar98, and I would love to see the modern equivalent in a game like Arma. Of course this is a slippery slope. I would love to simulate the screw up of dropping the bolt before your first round is chambered. I would love to skip the bolt release if you reload before the mag is empty (admin reload for you magpul types) or see a system where reload speeds would be tied to which compartment your gear is in. What do we think? Is it do-able? Is it worthwhile?

Things I already love about Arma 3

They have my gun! The gun I've been shooting for two years is (reasonably) represented in-game and in the Alpha!

    IFF - NVG Usage

Strobes make sense. IFF indicators on a player are currently common because current OPFOR usually doesn't have NVDs. But against the kind of OPFOR Arma3 is depicting: Nato troops would be chucking IR indicators pretty quick. Guys who play airsoft will corroborate this: its awesome to have IR team indicators until the other team gets NV too.

    Changing weapon while moving?

If you want to hit things, and properly stash your primary: I'd say it kindof is. Some of my posts get held for moderation (surprise) but I just wrote out a system that would delineate between a "transition" and a "draw"

    Changing weapon while moving?

I think the real answer is for there to be a difference between a transition and a draw Transition: you stash your primary firearm and switch over to your sidearm. Draw: you need your sidearm in your hands now Your pistol is up and ready in the fastest way possible, probably with an accuracy penalty. I believe the transition is working properly in my mind. I use an eberlestock and a VCAS sling, and storing my primary rifle, then transitioning to a handgun is an action I need to be stopped for. The draw could be done in a few ways. Ideally the primary would transition to the left hand to be carried, while the right hand the pistol into firing position. Depending on animation constraints, this would be do-able on the move or very fast. Anyone who played Max Payne 3 will agree its gun-play was ridiculous, but its carry and transition animations were excellent.

    SDAR damage

Considering the whole thing is built off a .308 rifle . . . I like the idea of having to carry two types of ammo and swapping depending on environment. Someone needs to mod a Cthulhu mask for when I come out of the deep to wreak havoc . . .

The Fictional MX Rifle series, why?

I can see where they were going with it. I'm personally not a fan of the MX series rifles primarily for the magazine. Built on an ACR, with stocks from magpul (UBR and CTR) which does seem like a reasonable evolution. Magpul invented the ACR (masada) so its not unreasonable to assume there would be cross compatibility there in the future. The quad-stack surefire-like magazine would be more palatable to me if it wasn't so . . . textured. I think the jump to 6.5 grendel makes a little bit of sense (no one is actually using it en masse, but it has the potential) but personally, the caseless side of things feels too sci-fi. I understand the whole "future vibe" but from where I'm standing caseless ammunition seems much more dream than reality. I haven't experimented seriously, but I have a feeling that when I shoot 6.5 in Arma 3 the ballistic curve that's actually being calculated is 5.56 Ask me about seeing the Tavor in the game :P that has me way more excited!

    Afghan War Diary - wikileaks

Interestingly enough I originally had an SVD with the mortar to increase difficulty, but removed it because the simple fact is if the US forces had received sniper fire they would have noted it in the report. I'm considering a few options of the next one: Option A: might be interesting because there is no actual enemy contact, but still lots to be done. For some reason I find that aspect still appealing, that there is action without gunfire. That and the fact that there will be a rusted helicopter wreck up in the mountains probably until the end of time. Option B: is probably too complex for me, but I like the detail offered in the war diary text. Option C: might make for an early morning air strike. This war doesn't have many set piece battles. Thats going to be an obstacle for blockbusters and short lived special reports. Instead, it has hundreds and thousands of tiny firefights, which are better suited to short one off game levels. I don't want to be the only one doing this. After fifteen minutes looking through the documents I always find something that is interesting enough to be a mission.
