It's probably been said 1000 times before, but I totally love this game.
I have found my new addiction. OA editor, town generator, a few friendly squads and a few opfor squads all set to follow waypoints to the center of town.
Thank you BI for such a great program. Endless Fun.

Isn't AI and sidearms buggy enough?Right?
I don't really see the point of knives in a game like this (unless you are using the wire-cutter featured on US bayonets to sneak thru enemy concertina wire). I honestly cant remember EVER getting close enough to an enemy without them noticing to put a knife into their backbone.

I believe BIS explained this by saying the situational awareness and FOV a human experiences is greater than the 1st Person view so they thought that adding 3rd person would be a solution for some people.I personally love 3rd person view because I can see the infantry models I spent bloody ages making!
I find it very hard to hit anything without crosshairs, although sometimes I do like firing off some rounds wildly to look cool lol! I bet the AI thinks I'm well cool!
Oh dude you totally took that literally:D, I love the 3rd person view and totally agree with the devs reasons to include it in the game. I was just being a smart@$$. I think it really makes the immersion that much better. One problem I had with OF-DR was the mandatory 1st person view. I love this game and really cant find anything to complain out loud about (even the AI isnt as bad as some people on these forums make it seem, well sometimes it is...)ok. my 2 cents. peace.:bounce3:

Hi guys, I have this problem as well. Going to try "left shift & -" then type flush while on the black screen. after that im going to scale back the distance and see if that helpsAnd sorry for the double post, but my issue is no longer happening. hope you got yours fixed man

FYII had the bug with the OA Bootcamp mission: UAV tutorial where the screen gets black after selecting the UAV or the ULB.
I found out that this was caused by the visibility settings in the video options. Ive had set it more than 5000, and after setting this back to 2400 the problem is not arising.

As I said, putting the game on expert setting removes the hud but does not remedy the fact that you can shoot perfect groups without looking down the sights. A feat at home in a dream world or some arcade. I'm not going to make my turning and viewing sloppy to try and simulate a basic reality. Even that still wouldn't work once settled into a position. Shots should be spraying every which way. Expert setting doesn't remedy this at all. It merely removes the aiming dot which doesn't stop you approximating your first shot to get on target with nicely grouped successive shots anyway. It's such a mind numbingly basic fundamental requirement of shooting it's inexcusable to get it wrong. Yeah it's a game but it's touted as a simulation and it certainly has quality simulation specs... Not being forced to aim down the sights is tantamount to a driving simulation where cars can't lose traction. I can hardly believe this. The rest of the game may be epic but when something so fundamental isn't enforced it really goes down the toilet big time for me. It annoys me so much I bothered to weed out this forum and actually say something about it. You can cover all manner or variables and get your engine humming nicely but for goodness sake put the wheels on properly. I'm disgusted that something so simple could be hashed up so badly. Needless to say I doubt I'll be playing this game. Thank goodness for demos. You know what else is "unrealistic"? 3rd person view! I mean, you have to be almost dead or having an out-of-body experience to see yourself from the outside! And this game calls itself a "simulation"

Hi allIn real life All Terrain Vehicles (ATV) are quite dangerouse too.
In just the UK they put 4,200 in hospital in 2002 the last year for which statisics are available, In recent years, rock star Ozzy Osbourne and comedian Rik Mayall were almost killed after coming off their ATVs. What is realy shocking is the percentage of ATV accedents resulting in deaths, by broken neck and smashed skull.
In the US over 6,000 fatalities occurred from injuries associated with ATVs in the last twenty years, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
In 2001 alone, 467 people were killed by ATV accidents. In 2002, 113,900 people went to the emergency room with ATV-related injuries, Sadly the CPSC estimates at least 30% of people involved in ATV accidents are children.
Doctors haver started to call them ATDS (All Terrain Doner Shop)
Kind Regards walker
Yup, If any of you are lucky enough to have driven one of these, you will know that you cannot go blasting off road at a high rate of speed, like Bad Company 2. You can go fast, but you will get dumped if you are careless. not saying they are the best handling either, been seeing alot of offroad vehicles in this game with floating front ends coming fast downhill.

posted this in troubleshooting, but only got 1 response.
just wanted to see if anybody else has the problem with the UAV bootcamp tutorial.
I load the tutorial, it then tells me to choose between the plane or little bird by walking toward one.
Either way I choose, the next part of the boot camp starts to load and then freezes on a black screen. when I hit escape, the image from the next part of the tutorial shows but when I resume game it goes back to black screen.
Guess I'll just have to reinstall?:butbut:

Welcome by the way. more new people every day on this community. awesome

The "zeroing" you guys are talking about doesn't sound like the zeroing I did in the Army. Each shooter holds his weapon differently, even when prone, causing rounds to go in different directions. Each shooter has to zero his sights to his own personal holding/shooting style.Adjusting for elevation and windage is adjusting for elevation and windage, isn't it?
(By the way, what this means is that when you pick up anyone else's weapon in ArmA, it should be permanently inaccurate in a given direction until you zero it...unless you share the same exact zero, kinda like trading prescription glasses.)
Gotta agree with you man, from what I understand windage and elevation is completely different from just zeroing your ironsights. I spent time in the army as well, and hopefully the zeroing is as you say - every weapon will be a little less accurate (or way less acurate at long distances) than your own personal weapon.

DLC is certainly a sticky issue with Arma 2 considering the modding community but I'd be more than happy to pay for DLC, even stuff that I probably wouldn't use for three reasons.1. It's typically more polished than what the modding community creates.
2. There simply aren't many developers like Bohemia out there and if micro-transactions keep them in business putting out quality games than I'm all for it.
3. The extra income might make Carrier Command come out a little quicker...ok probably not but I can dream.
Not that I dont agree with the others, but #2 is a good point. Keep companies like this one in business, vote with your wallets.

In the Army it's called buddy rushes but your buddy has to provide covering fire while you move, and not just rush with you. At least that is what I remember.Weapon on safe, moving!
-
No but I do understand the game makes me want to destroy vegetation in the real world.Indeed BIS does put plenty of post-release work into the game, especially compared to OFP2. Yet I don't want to see that abandoned in favor of penny-pinching "micro-transactions." So I guess any DLC purchase will depend on the quality and content as well.
Exactly. If BI keeps on putting out something like OA every year, I'm all over that. Just let me buy the physical disc. But if BI starts charging :eek:micro-transactions:eek: for a dozen new weapons, count me out.

I know for sure that that is somewhere on this forum. I am not too familiar with the solution though. You could createvehicle shells into the town though. I suppose that is one option.Man you get props for helping him out. I had to seek out youtube videos demonstrating how to give yourself artillery command in the editor. I love the freedom of the editor but damn is it intimidating.

You don't know how long will your CDs last neither. ;)Dude's got a point. If your house burns down you still have your steam account. :p

welcome, yeah reading the codemasters forums is pathetic I made my last plea there awhile ago, anyways forum rules says we cant discuss that.BIS is a good developer they show support and their not abunch of sleazy developers that buy up nice IPs and screw them up for a quick buck.
im sure you will like it here, dont drop the game if you get frusterated though because I would've already been long gone if that was the case.
Oh dont worry, I'm new to the forums but I love this game. Finally getting around to checking out Armaholic and some of the user created stuff. Cant say enough good things about this community.
I also want to agree with jpinard: Please DO NOT force us to use steam. As convenient as it is to use and distribute product, I like having my game discs and packaging. So gimme Premium DLC / Expansion Packs / whatever you want to call it, but give me the option to request physical media. :bounce3:

Just noticed this neat feature and have not read about it before.
While your character is fully locked into ironsight or rifle scope mode, you can train your weapon on an enemy or area and then press and hold the look button (alt) and your view will shift around like normal, but when you let go of the alt button your crosshairs will jump back to the original position.
I have found it helpful to line up two sniper shots, or while using a LMG.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

Here's a quote from Good Morning Vietnam that this topic made me think of:
Adrian as Camp Fashion Consultant: I want to tell you something. You know, this whole camouflage thing, for me, doesn't work very well.
Why is that?
Adrian as Camp Fashion Consultant: Because you go in the jungle, I can't see you. You know, it's like wearing stripes and plaid. For me, I want to do something different. You know, you go in the jungle, make a statement. If you're going to fight, clash. You know what I mean?

I'm very new to the current PC gaming landscape, been forking over hundreds of dollars to Microsoft to play games on XboxLive. After my X360 died, I decided to get rid of all my console stuff and just focus on PC. Because of my past experience with DLC, I would love to see BI put out some Premium Addons. I dont mind paying extra to help fund the developers on some new content for a game I like. I did feel like Codemasters ripped me off when I purchased OF: DR and their DLC, but that was just me hoping that giving them a little bit more money would spur them to make something GOOD out of that game.
So, at least for me, I wouldnt mind putting a few more bucks into A2 after OA comes out. The developers really seem to give a crap about their community here, and I really appreciate it after spending a few months reading the forums at Codemasters...

Just want to say: Thank You BIS!
