  1. I'm running ARMA II CO on a Dell M6600 Precision Mobile Workstation laptop docked to a 24" monitor with no problems. Most setting set to High or Very High. Averages 43 FPS.

    Specs:

    Win 8 Pro

    i7-2760QM

    16GB 1600 MHz Ram

    AMD FirePro M8900 video card

    Samsung 256GB 840 Pro SSD

  2. OK I figured out BAF and PMC DLC installs on 64bit Win 8. It should be noted that the 4GB limit mentioned above is on and I am running Release Preview now (though both CP and RP had the same error).

You must run the BAF or PMC setup file / Sprocket DLC thing. when / if you hit the error message "Runtime Error".

    1. Open the Folder: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\BAF

    2. for both files "setup.exe" and "ReactorActivate.exe"

    3. Right click on each .exe and choose Properties then the Compatibility tab.

    4. Check "Run this program as an Admin"

    Do the same for C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\PMC

Thanks....I just installed Win 8 Pro tonight and this fixed it.

  3. I got the new system done a few days ago. I see a big difference between between the 1.5GB and 3GB video card at 2560x1600. The game is running much smoother with the settings bumped up a little higher than before. Played about 2 hours the other night and the system was running very cool and quiet. I would normally have tons of hot air pumping out the rear of the case. Room temp was about 70F.

WEI came in at 7.8 only due to the CPU (not overclocked yet), everything else was a 7.9. Not bad for a $300 CPU!

I am in process of a new build. We'll see if there is any improvement. At 2560x1600 res. and I averaged 54FPS (AA off - VD 2600)

OLD BUILD (no longer have it)

    Dell 30" U3011 Monitor

Core i7-980X Gulftown 3.33GHz Six Core

    Corsair H50 CPU Cooler

    12GB Corsair Dominator 1066 DDR3 (2GBx6)

240GB OCZ Vertex 2 SATA II SSD

    WD 600GB Storage HDD

EVGA SuperClocked GeForce GTX 580 1536MB

Corsair Professional Series Gold AX1200 PS

    Corsair 600T Case

    NEW BUILD

    Dell 30" U3011 Monitor

Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz Quad Core

    Corsair H50 CPU Cooler

    16GB Corsair Vengence 1600 DDR3 (4GBx4)

256GB Crucial M4 SATA III SSD

    WD 1TB Storage HDD

EVGA GeForce GTX 580 FTW 3072MB

Corsair Professional Series Gold AX1200 PS

    Corsair 600T Case

3GB will help at 2560 x 1600. 1.5GB is nowhere near enough at that res with high detail/AA etc.

There isn't going to be much difference between CPUs vis a vis ArmA 2 (except that the 2600K has more OCing overhead than the 980x).

  4. I'm sorry, but why are you building a new rig? If the only reason is arma, then the improvement you'll notice will be minimal at best...if any

No, Arma is not the only reason plus I should of mentioned that I no longer have the old system.

It will be nice to see if the newer architecture, chipset, native SATA 3, and a 3GB video card make any difference at that res. Both CPUs can OC to about the same so I'll see if 4 vs 6 core make any diff.

  6. I think Steam is for the non-savy, don't know much about computers, type of person. Might as well make ARMA for the MAC. :D

For real though....lets start a list of pros and cons so everyone can see the big picture here. I know some say that they don't have any problems with mods, but majority say they do, so thats definitely a con.

Feel free to copy and paste the list to your post.....

    PROS

    1.

    2.

    3.

    4.

    5.

    CONS

    1. Game is tied to one Steam acct forever.

    2. Can never sell or transfer the game to someone else.

  7. Why does BI even have to use Steam? Cut out the middleman and sell your games directly to the consumer via digital downloads. (like Sprocket)

As far as owning the physical disk, manual, retail box, etc.... I can accept doing away with retail store bought version as long as you can always re-download the games at anytime. I still keep backups of my digital download games and serials on an external drive anyway. Most of the time , if you have to re-download the game, it will already be patched with the latest version.

And the money BI can save not having to manufacture and distribute retail store version, can go back into game development. Just my 2 cents. :)

  8. Strangely enough that kind of consumer rights butchery is not evident in non-downloaded non-Steam games, i.e. you can sell the copy to someone else. Movies are someone's IP as well, yet you can sell any and all DVDs you might have because they don't require you to bind them to a personal online account for all eternity.

100% agree. Well said. This is one of my main issues with Steam.

  9. Absolutely not. I want full control of what I spend my hard earned money on. Please do not go the Steam route. I will not buy games where I have to use Steam.

I bought Black Ops on PC-DVD when it came out. It made me create a Steam acct to be able to play online. I didn't like the game. I was not able to sell or even give it away because it was linked forever to the Steam account. I canned the Steam account and will never buy another Steam linked game.

  10. I am not sure is this is a game or video card setting or some other issue, but when scanning the area (looking around), the trees and bushes move, and appear to shift/re-draw. I sometimes mistake this for an enemy moving.

I am not even sure if I am explaining it right. Hopefully someone will chime and and know what I am talking about. I get on average 59 FPS. I am running the latest patch also, with PMC and BAF.

    Here are my system specs.

    i7-980 OC @ 4.00Ghz

    12GB Memory

EVGA SuperClocked nVidia GTX 580 1.5GB (latest drivers)

    240GB SSD

    Win 7 64bit

Any help would be great... Thanks!
