  1. The only thing I can say that I have noticed that makes a difference is the amount of players in a server. If you go into a server with say 2-3 players in it, performance is bad, but it's not as bad as I have experienced it. Now if you go to a server with 5+ people, the performance just tanks. If it's a server issue, and the servers can't handle the load, then either there's a large portion of this community trying to run A3 servers on Amiga's, or the dedicated server software or this game can't make use of all of the server's resources. I'm willing to bet that the latter is more plausible.

All I am going to say to your whole post is this.

There are far too many missions being run with horrible scripts. Especially ones that save stats and that spawn items. Because of this, you will always get horrible fps regardless of the number of people. Try running a mission from bis that is included with the beta and add a few people, you will notice its not the same experience. In general, if I play missions (not stratis life or wastelands, etc.., but real missions) this will hardly happen. For some reason it seems their scripts are very badly optimized, as most people edit them without having much thought to performance to suit their wants (after testing on a private server with very limited people, just to confirm this). I don't see how saying its bis fault will change anything, for something that is obviously caused by the mission being run.

  2. I believe that the sound engine is pretty good at the moment. I think that the proof of this can be found in the great sound mods out there (I tried acex_sm, and jsrs). What I think BIS is missing though is some of the effects that these mods bring to the game. I dont know many people out there that dont play without a good sound mod, and I think this is because the default sounds, while good for most things, just dont add up to what these mods have done. I also think people not using a good sound mod are missing out on something amazing. So I dont think that it is impossible to get the same sounds as some people say in BF, I just think that the way that these sounds are used in the game need a little bit more attention. Using acex_sm and jsrs, when a rocket is fired next to you, its not that its loud, its that the sound comes from over there and its close. I like the way the sounds are in these mods because you get more immersion by using them. So basically BIS should do something where these mods are no longer needed and we can get something similar out of the box. Its not the engine, its the application of the engine.

  3. Im going to give a huge +1 to the defend waypoint, this is one that is just rediculous to be missing. The other +1 goes to the helicopter/airplane land waypoint. Its horrible the current way mission makers have to use work arounds in the current system to get the most common results. I think these are the two that we find in most missions that have to be scripted in some way to get the desired results.

What I would also like to suggest at the same time, is make it easy to mod the editor in adding waypoint types that are missing. What i mean is, for example, the scripted waypoint is opened in the editor, and you simply choose your script and give it a name and save it. Now the missing waypoints are always available with the attached script that you created in the editor. So something like the land waypoint you created, is now in the editor, you know your script needs an invisible H pad everytime you use it, but you dont have to type the script/command everytime. Just place the waypoint and the pad and give it its name. This would also allow mission creators to customize their most used scripts into waypoints.

  4. Funny thread. Complaining about people not knowing everything. Like jblackrupert said, its not everyone that knows everything about the game.

I mean, who would imagine a server for a completely different and incompatible expansion would show up in their server list. Stupid people?

And who would imagine that you get the error messages but the joining party doesnt? It goes by so fast that you dont even see which mod is missing or outdated before you hit the main menu. But then again, the UI for server listings is just so perfect.

If your too ignorant to the problems with the game itself to blame it on new players being stupid or not knowing, then just lock your server because ranting here is not going to get you anywhere closer to removing your frustration.

  5. I dont like the k/d stats, but it think it could be fun to see how many missions i have played and how many times etc... Could be nice also seeing some sort of stat that simply says which faction i played most, which gun, which map, which vehicle without the times or kills. Just some general stats that can be interesting to look at when waiting for a mission to end because I died again. General random useless stats, a source of diversion while you wait, nothing more.

  6. Because your opinion, as you stated it, is based on proper savy information, or first hand experience? Which of the two? Or was it based only on your "gamer gut feeling"?

Sorry "bud" but you seem to really know what you were saying there, being so confident about BIS hitting the wall with their ongoing development on the RV engine not that far in the future.

Please excuse my non-professional 2 cents on the matter in that case

Because its an opinion. Do you know me? are you part of my family? Do we work together? Is your opinion of me based on the fact you are god? Jesus christ, calm down and I retract my opinion. I will keep my opinion for myself. Sorry I posted it here. Had nothing to do with them even hitting it yet. There is still life in the current engine no doubt. You are right, I shall have no new opinions on this forum. Thank you for setting me straight.

  7. I find it odd thay you never hear such complaints in the CoD community, while that was based on the quake3 engine which is older than god.

And I find it odd that you havent noticed that the last 3 COD games didnt bring anything new. I love the arma engine, Im just saying that eventually there is a brick wall that will not allow you to do what you want with it. So next time you think im complaining, use your reading eyes and take it as an observation that I was making.

    Got troll?

oh hold on! i thought the wannabes game developers basket was full...my bad...make room for another one please...

    FPDR

Thanks bud, keep you a spot at the table for you with your arrogant buddy up there. If I cant express my opinion without being attacked and have to read your garbage, then there is a serious problem here.

  8. One day they are going to have to kill that engine and move on. Because your statement concludes that arma 2 still has the same engine as OFP but revamped. Pointless to keep moving down the same road. Eventually there is nothing new you can do with it.

  9. Seeing how we get this time warp thing as a first thought and the wall brings me to berlin and the cold war, is it possible that the current situation is sort of like a cold war with Iran/Persia? I also know that outerra is going to be used in some alpha demo game to try and develop it more. It was stated "in a few months" back in march. If Miller is a character in game, then he is involved. The physics with the wall is interesting aswell. The relevance of greece is also intriguing, they are also somehow involved. The tatra truck is modelled already in outerra and featured in a few demo videos. The relevance of all the world wars spanning large areas also brings me to the outerra engine.

World conquerers, "the world will change", the map, the global events, it has some relevance to my theory.

I know that this seems a little far fetched and myself am a bit sceptic, but its what im thinking with the evidence we have. I am having a hard time convincing myself, so dont think i really think its going to be this, just an idea that came to mind.

  10. lol, was just watching that. only relevance is that freddy's leg is in iran.

On another note, im convinced we missed something with the miller photo. AAN still hast updated the status of the hacks. Could possibly mean that it hasnt been solved yet. There is something very funny about that picture and I just cant put my finger on it. Both the code and miller use the same background. Something we missed I think.

  11. Who cares, we are waiting for the next hack. Take your speculations somewhere else. How many more of these arma3.com posts do we need? We get the point, and personally I dont think anyone can provide proof as of yet. So until then..... stop with the repetition and solve some clues.

  12. I also found some info on gibs, not sure if its useful though but interesting. It could be this that will be added to the game. It also says

"To "gib" one's opponents (pronounced either /ˈdʒɪb/ or /ˈɡɪb/) is to hit them with such force (often with explosives) that they rupture."

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gib_(video_gaming)

Gibs is also used short for gilbratar sometimes apparently. The image also looks like some sort of 3d image. I dont have a 3d tv or those red blue glases. Maybe someone with it could confirm that it is in fact a 3d image. Could be some clue to 3d being fully implemented in the game.

  13. )rStrangelove;1906823']Can't believe there are so many ppl complaining they cant join servers with a simple click.

Cmon' date=' this is highly moddable game and as such every server admin runs what he thinks is the most fun.

My personal way of joining a server is:

    1. Which servers run my fav mission types several times a week?

    2. Can i join? Which mods are required? Can i find them myself?

    3. If i have problems i seek out the clan website / look around here in the BIS forums for clan threads or single forum members who have the same clan tag and PM them.

    4. Register on the clan website, introduce myself, ask what mods i need to run, ask for the server password, ask for the ts3 server, then play play play & have fun.

    5. Make a modfolder named like the server you want to join. How long does it take to restart ArmA2 with a new modfolder? 2mins?

Where's the problem? A bit of socialization takes a bit of effort, its a bit more than just click some 'I LIKE' button. :P[/quote']

5 steps is your version of one simple click? You see, the problem is not that you know how its done, or that i know how its done. I can say with a 100% certainty though that the steam version does not come with a link to these forums, dont know about the boxed version though. I support the idea for a built in addon sync type function, that would probably in its own help do wonders. Making that simple click so much more a reality than a shameful farce. The forum link in the main menu is a good idea as well, that has got to be so easy (compared to the addon sync type function) to implement. Get those new people a map to getting started in the community. This is an actual solution to a very real problem.

    Like

 - Telling new people they are the problem

As for mods, as Robalo_AS says it: "It's a sort of a noob-filter". The game is desperate for new players, and you want to filter out "noobs"? On public, get to know them, train them, and recruit them, and ban the idiots (idiots != noobs). Todays noobs will outshoot you tomorrow...

Although i get your point of view, and see it as a valid one. I dont see it as helpful to keeping the "noobs" around long enough to see what the game is about. Especially when people like yourself stay on private servers. No disrespect intended, just an observation of a common ideology around here that most of you veterans seem to share that doesnt really help the situation but at the same time has some of the greatest games result from it. Sort of a catch 22. I think the root of the problem might come from something along these lines. How can it be fixed? I can only imagine that maybe over time, more new people would stay and learn, then the amount of people that play it for what it is will heavily outnumber the "noobs". But that is just a maybe with some wishfull thinking, and its also a risk most people around here are not willing to take or sacrifice, there is some understanding but no possible solution without a change.

  14. Guess that's why CoD is so popular.

Public gaming is irrelevant when it comes to organized gaming.

The majority of people playing on public servers just come there to run around and shoot. That's all they ever wanted. Fine. Let them do that. But then they complain on forums - "oh make it dumber! I want free for all! I want PvP like in Battlefield" not realizing that maybe not all games should be like BF?

Now, did you ever "REALIZE" that its really hard to get into. Im not on the forums complaining, but being new to arma, it has been excessively hard to find out how to play with organized people and get off the public servers. I think it comes down to the fact that you sir, think this forum and all its help comes boxed with the game. Some of us were not here in the OFP days or even arma 1 days. So getting up to speed with some genius like yourself is extreemly hard to do. And maybe if you didnt lock your servers, and admined them so that those of us who are actually looking for those types of games could get in easily and kick the douches.

But then again, i must be the dumbest person in the world, because it took me a few months to get the mods all sorted out so i could load one. And i must really just be looking for the bf feeling seeing how i could only figure out how to play on public servers. Eventhough i bought the game because people as helpful as yourself boast the teamplay and community i was looking for.

Attitudes like yours are no help to new people. And I must say, any new person reading the forums for guides or help to get off the public servers might find your words a bit insulting. So next time you think you can be just as insightful as you have, keep it to yourself.

And as a side note, when i was getting started, we were two trying to figure out how to get on servers. My friend gave up because it was just too damn frustrating and time consuming. Version mismatch, incorrect key, bla bla bla. Imagine all these questions that appear constantly looking for help on these topics. These are just the ones that didnt use the search button. And if you want to play with your 20 or so regulars and not see any new faces, continue with that type of attitude. Its not because you know how to do it and someone else doesnt that they are lazy. Its simply because from another perspective, you dont have to be or are expected to be, good at computers to be a good player. Make it easier? Dumb idea? go ahead genius, keep peoples lives difficult just because you know your sh$%. In your own intelligent words, i vote to "make it dumber". Only a dumb person would think that this would actually remove something from gameplay. If i missed something, im sure you could find some inspiring words for me. But i wouldnt expect much less considering this is supposed to be a friendly place full of helpful people like you all high and mighty.

Doesnt the PR community have public servers with teamplay, community, helpful people, and organization?

    So long

    !alive opinion.
