Hey HarvesterR,That would be really a nice... feature :) I'm anxious to hear from you :bounce3:
-
Hi Harvester,Thanks! I know you say it's more complete than you anticipated, but feel free to share your ideas about new features (if you have them). I recently bought a PS3 Eye and there are some examples in the SDK that use OpenCV. Maybe you have experience with that? I intend to try and make some kind of face-tracker with OpenCV too, if I can find the time... Any help would be appreciated

Hi Vohk, Sorry I didn't respond earlier... I'm working on a new update for FaceTrackNoIR: I'm making curves to give users more influence on how the view changes in-game. While testing and playing with ArmA, I must admit that I do experience some of the 'wobble' you describe. I hope to iron that out too :)
-
Hi PhillyB,That's what I meant: un-install IPP and then install faceAPI demo. Seems that you can safely un-install the demo after that: it should leave the IPP intact. Unfortunately I don't know exactly how the faceAPI-demo-installer does the installing, so I have some digging to do. @WoodyUK: Good that you got it working by yourself:bounce3: ArmA2 indeed only works with the FreeTrack-protocol (they have used the encrypted version of TrackIR, so that doesn't work...for us). @GoldenNugget: I guess you've also got it working now? Try turning OFF auto-exposure (that's recommended for all cams). Make sure you have proper lighting (you can play in the dark later ;) )
-
Hi GoldenNugget, On another forum someone mentioned the same 'Waterfall-error'. Seems like the IPP DLL's are not installed exactly right (yet) for Windows 7. The solution he presented was to install the faceAPI demo, which can be downloaded here: http://www.seeingmachines.com/product/faceapi/downloads/. It's a bit of a poor patch, but seems to work... I'll see what I can do about it
-
First, I'm glad you like it :) About the CPU-load: indeed faceAPI is quite demanding. That's why SeeingMachines recommends 2-cores minimal. On my Core 2 Duo, load is between 10 and 20% and I think that's quite acceptable. It seems that the CPU-load can be badly influenced by the type of web-cam used (specially older ones).

Hello to you all, I have worked on a few improvements since the holidays and just released the result of that: update 3 of FaceTrackNoIR Actually there are 2 versions: an update for people who already have FaceTrackNoIR and a new installer-version for new users. You can find both here: http://facetracknoir.sourceforge.net/information_links/download.htm The new release (and the update) contain the following: Auto-minimize feature Configurable short-keys Fix for R6030-error Use of v3.2 faceAPI I hope you will try it and let me know how it works...

Hello Berserker :) Well, the 'first-attempt crash' is one I cannot cure: it must have something to do with the way ArmA starts up. Other games don't show this problem, as far as I know. The second is strange indeed  When I forget to power-up my web-cam, I get my TV-card as input. When I start tracking, it does indeed start tracking the news-readers face  I'm happy it still works, but don't think I can do anything about it though... @dunnobe: you are really close! Only thing I can think of, is that you must enable the Free-track controller in ArmA, but it looks like you tried that already?
-
@Pathetic Berserker: Thanks! @stk2008: The Wiimote? Can you use that with FaceTrackNoIR? That would be nice...
-
Hi W@rrior,Well, I try to help everyone. Keeps me rather busy though  I just tried installing the first release and the update again on a clean Virtual Machine and could not reproduce your problem. A thing just popped in my mind doing that: one significant change is the fact that the upgrade .exe only starts the protocol that is selected in the 'game protocol' Listbox. Have you tried changing that? It's a long shot :o A new cam could be the fix though: the upgrade also allows higher fps than the first release. Maybe that is why the first does work... V4Friend
-
Hello W@rrior, That's really strange: you are saying that the first release of FaceTrackNoIR works, but the update does not??? That's a first... Well, the first version also supports ArmA2, so that should work. Problem is that I added the filtering later, so that will not be in there. It's really very strange, because the faceAPI-part has not changed compared to the first release. Let me know if you tried it?
-
Hello EmBeEs, Thanks for compiling a list of games you tried :). I will make a compatibility-list on the website shortly. There's more work to be done, like making a list of 'known issues' too... @ W@rrior: It's very strange that it worked once, and now it doesn't any more! The EngineBase error is thrown by the faceAPI, so that's difficult for me to solve. Have you tried creating a new user on your PC and running FaceTrackNoIR on that? Maybe it's some other program bugging the device?! @FlashLeitz: Does FaceTrackNoIR show the proper name of your web-cam in the text above the settings? It should do so after starting the program and again after pressing "Start". It's hard for me to help you, because I don't have a PS3 Eye nor do I have W7 64bit. Looks to me it's a device-driver issue, but you probably guessed that?
-
Hi Sailindawg, I will be very frank with you: I don't have a clue :( All I have is an old Trust Camera, that can also be used a webcam. It's really quite crappy and after 10 minutes or so, it goes to energy-saving mode... When I test things, I can only do that for a limited period. That's where you folks come in About the values: All settings work roughly the same: the lower the value, the quicker the reaction (except sensitivity, that only for amplifying movement). You can set smoothing down to about 5 or 10 and then play with the filter-settings.
-
Hi Sailindawg, Great work! Those are the problems I cannot fix and so it's great if someone else can!
-
Have you tried the faceAPI demo from SeeingMachines?
-
The beauty of the new (= second) update is the fact, that you do not need the PPJoy route. Select 'fake trackIR' at the game-protocol Listbox and it should work fine (for me it does :) )
-
Hello Muahaha, Some others have experienced the same. SeeingMachines states that the faceAPI is not compatible yet, so neither is FaceTrackNoIR... I don't know if that's the case for everyone though? @gxxshock: you're right about disabling x-movement to prevent leaning from kicking in. My ToDo list is growing...

Hello gamers, From several gamers and flight-simmers I got requests to make FaceTrackNoIR compatible with TrackIR, so I did. If you want to try it: http://sourceforge.net/projects/facetracknoir/files/ You have to download release 1 first (if you haven't already) and then apply the update (ZIP-file). Readme files are included. Oh yeah, I tried FaceTrackNoIR using the TrackIR-protocol with FreeFalcon 5, IL-2 1946 and rFactor: that works :). I guess all programs that support unencrypted TrackIR will work now. Please let me know if you have tried some... V4Friend Holland P.S.: I'll keep working on improvements, but the holidays are here Please be patient...

@vn88: Earlier you mentioned, that these racing games support TrackIR. As I mentioned, FaceTrackNoIR is PPJoy compatible. This is what you could try (I did it for IL-2 1946 and FreeFalcon 5): - download PPJoy and GlovePIE (seperate softwares :) ) - Install both. - Install a virtual joystick for PPJoy (via Windows Configuration Console) and apply the settings that are in the ClientFiles shipped with FaceTrackNoIR. - Start GlovePIE and load the script provided in the ClientFiles. This emulates TrackIR. - Run FaceTrackNoIR, with the PPJoy protocol. - Try your game! - Give us feedback  I'm also busy making FaceTrackNoIR directly TrackIR compatible (at least the un-encrypted version of it). I'll certainly post, if that is ready...
-
@PhilippRauch: it's a bit of an 'open door', but have you tried the SeeingMachines Demo? If that works, FaceTrackNoIR will too (well, at least I hope it always does...). @dontknowhow: thanks, I read that. I do not know exactly if that is possible, but I can try. Right now I'm a bit busy celebrating our victory over Brasil and tomorrow (or actually the whole month) I will be busy with the Tour de France :) Busy people, the Dutch!
-
@sarge and others: any input from others (preferably C++ programmers) would be welcome! I think it has something to do with compiler settings... @vn88holden: If these racing-games support trackIR, you can use the PPJoy-protocol and 'chain' it with GlovePIE. Scripts and readme-files are in the FTNoIR update-ZIP. Will you let us know if you have it working? Thanks!
-
@Sarge: I must admit that I haven't tried to solve it. If I start Spy++ after FaceTrackNoIR it works fine. I will look into it, but things are a bit hectic right now (my mother-in-law is visiting us...)
-
Hello Sarge & Xirow, I don't know if this helps, but at least it gives you something to work with. On my PC, FaceTrackNoIR works fine and I get no R6030 error(s). :) Until: I start Visual Studio's Spy++ program  If I start Spy++ before starting FaceTrackNoIR I get the exact same error(s) you both do. I guess on your PC's, some program loads the 'wrong version' of the C++ DLL's. I read a tip somewhere, to create a new user-account on your PC, to ensure that no startup-programs are loaded. @Iroquois Pliskin: I'll make a note of it. Some others have also requested different 'Neutral Zones' for all 6DOF's. It's a future enhancement that's rising on the ToDo list
-
Hello alef, Thanks for the math lesson. I'm quite busy right now, but I will certainly look into it. I guess this feature would only need to work while walking/running, isn't it? Perhaps the Bohemia-devs can also do something with this info (like suppress lean whilst running)? @)Indy(, Bart, FaceTrackNoIR is compatible with PPJoy since about a week now. When also using GlovePIE, it can be used with all games, that support the un-encrypted version of TrackIR. I think there are some 80 titles to try! Myself, I have made it work for IL-2 (see Youtube) and Free Falcon 5 (though I'm still experimenting with that). If you have managed to get it working with any game, I'd like to know :-)
-
@Alef: Do you have any idea, how such a geometric correction should work? As all the tracking-logic is handled by the faceAPI, all data you get are the 6DOF's. A correction algorithm should be invented, I wouldn't know where to start :o Ronski mentioned the same problem to me before. He has a rather practical (but non-6DOF) solution for it: disable X-movement by setting sensitivity to 0. He then leans by using the keyboard... Your suggestions for dead-zones are noted. @Ebola: I'm glad you didn't experience the crash anymore. You're right about the yellow outline: it re-appears fairly quickly, after your face was lost. However, the faceAPI send a 'confidence' flag, to indicate that the headpose is valid (again). That takes a while longer! I don't really understand what you mean: pressing BACKSPACE stops tracking. Isn't that what you need?
