Then maybe Putin should be put on trial for waging war against Georgia. At any rate this operation was sanctioned by the UN so it's about as legal as it gets.

Libyan Air-force ordered to bomb protesters

And why should we help them? What does the US get out of helping them? What makes you think they aren't anything more than a bunch of religious zealots sugar coated with men who preach freedom, but have no power within the rebel leadership? The French never got anything for helping us and even to this day we still hate (more like a love/hate thing.) the French. Oh Really? I clearly remember Admiral Rochambeau being so overly cautious he was accused of being a coward by the Americans who did 99% of the fighting during the revolution and it was only until Yorktown when he was being put under so much pressure by the Americans that he finally committed his armada to the fight. If you really want to stop a genocide there in Libya then disarm both the pro-Gadhafi forces and the anti-Gadhafi forces because I promise you if either side wins the victor is going to slaughter the loser.

The difference there is we were actively seeking countries like France and Spain to come to our aid and the only reason they came to our aid was because they had something to gain and that support was minor at best. It consisted of muskets that did not work, an Admiral who was afraid to commit his forces to battle and a few thousand troops at the very last battle. We have nothing to gain by helping to either oust Gadhafi or keep him in power.

Is he killing Americans? Has he launched attacks against us in past few weeks before we bombed him? No he hasn't. From my point of view if this guy is so bad then the people should rise up and oust him themselves, it's their problem let them handle it. No but we're the one thats going to be expected the carry the biggest burden. No our president is cow towing to the UN. And that's the problem of the west how? Maybe next time they'll do better.

But how is what Gadhafi does to his own people the problem for the rest of the world? Is he trying to take over Africa? No he isn't, so from my point of view it's a sin and a shame but it's none of our business. Why should we even care when we have real issues at home? I much rather see a thriving economy, lowered national debt, and people not struggling to find good work than a war which I as an American have no stake in.

It's not the same. Hitler was trying to take over the world, Gadhafi is just trying to keep his little kingdom. Also hardly anyone knew about the concentration camps until near the end of WW2 so your argument is invalid. Gadhafi is no more crazy than any other run of the mill dictator. You need to stop listening to anti-Gadhafi propaganda, it's no more truthful than the pro-Gadhafi propaganda.. Also by your logic we should invade half the countries in the world just because the government is killing it's own people. I say finish your plate then get seconds...

That makes no sense. How can you compare this to WW2? Actually it's the perfect solution since it is more their problem than ours.

Yea until the UN passes a resolution calling for an invasion to oust Gadhafi and then Obama will be all to happy to accommodate them with ground troops..

Gadhafi isn't trying to take over the world, Hitler was. Your argument is flawed. Oh Really? I don't consider a CSG with two amphibious assault ships, three nuclear attack submarines, a command ship, and three B-2 Bombers taking a back seat. Mark my words when it comes to putting troops on the ground and it probably will the US will doing the bulk of the fighting and dying as per usual. Why should America be asked to risk the lives of it's sons and daughters in a war that doesn't concern them? Then how about we invade half of africa and the middle east then? Civilians are always the first casualty in war but that doesn't make it a genocide. It's not our place to stick our noses in a war that doesn't involve us. Also is there a real good candidate for a democratic libya in the rebel camp? I'll wager a bet that the leaders of the rebels are just as bad if not worse than Gadhafi.

It's a pragmatic argument. The world knows that Gadhafi will do what's good for Gadhafi.

Not me. I personally believe it's none of our business. The US is recovering from one war and still fighting another and we're in serious financial and economical trouble. This is a Libyan problem that should be handled by the Libyans. The US can't play policeman of the world anymore. It maybe just but is it smart? How can you be sure that the next strong man to rise to power in Libya won't be twice as bad as Gadhafi? How do you know he won't turn Libya into the Iran of North Africa? Better the devil you know than the devil you don't know. Also what's to stop Libya from becoming another quagmire for the US like Iraq and Afghanistan are? I don't want to see any Americans killed just to please the UN. If the rest of the West wants to enforce this no fly zone then by all means have at it, but the US has it's own problems. In the end it'll be no different than the UN missions in Bosnia were; a total failure to uphold it's stated mandate.

He does have a point. The Saudis if I remember correctly put down an uprising there brutally quick and no one so much as batted an eye lash..

Don't get me started on Katrina either. So you accusing me of being one those those nut jobs who compared obama to hitler? Sure there is. It was a natural disaster and people died. I had no problem helping Haiti, their government was pretty much in name only, but Japan can help itself without asking for a hand out. It's not my place to cloth, feed, and shelter them. So? It's not like they're not good for it. I have no problem with NGOs, or the US sending the Navy, USAF, or Marines there to help them out, because I know from personal experience it's better to have an extra pair of hands than a duffle bag full of cash, but the government has no right to give tax payer money to help people who aren't Americans, especially with the way things are these days when it comes to finances..

Call me a party pooper, but I don't believe Japan needs any charity since it's not a third world country. No one helped out me, my family, or the rest of the people from SC when Hurricane Hugo hit SC in 89 and we made do and got through it so from my point of view the Japanese can do the same. Granted we didn't have two nuclear reactors go apeshit, but still Japan is not a third world country and should be more than able to help itself without having to take a handout from everyone. Forgive me for my bluntness I've just been pissed off seeing my government and celebrities hand out cash like it's nothing for people who aren't Americans when there are Americans who are in truly dire straits and have been for a whole lot longer and no one lifts a finger to help them.
