[ANSWRED] "Connecting Failed" in Peer to Peer Server

OK, well thanks again Dwarden. If I can't get the problem resolved after the holidays I'll probably just go get a brand new router. Linksys is now Cisco and their newest ones are probably a lot more compatible.

[ANSWRED] "Connecting Failed" in Peer to Peer Server

Thanks Dwarden, I really appreciate your response to this issue. I will do the updates and try the MTU setting. ---------- Post added at 11:34 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:28 AM ---------- Than you PvPscene, that's excellent information! ---------- Post added at 12:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:34 AM ---------- OK Dwarden, when I put 1500 into the setting, I had one of our squad mates try to connect and he was able to see a different ping (125 instead of 2500) but he still got "connecting failed" error so it has to be something else in the router or this router just isn't compatible with ArmaII. Also, where are these two patch's, they're not listed in the download section. BAF 1.03 PMC 1.02

[ANSWRED] "Connecting Failed" in Peer to Peer Server

It happens with all ArmaII versions. I bought the original ArmaII stand alone but then I purchased OA and added British Military and PMC. I have not been able to get any of the ArmaII games to work if I'm hosting a session. No one can connect to me. I can connect to most of the public servers including our squad server. If someone creates a session on their local machine I can't connect to them either. I downloaded the 1.11 for ArmaII but have not installed it yet. I'm still on version 1.59 for OA which is what we're officially using for our squad. I disconnected the router yesterday and was able to host and connect so the problem is in the router so that's where I'm at now. I did not have this problem with ArmaI

[ANSWRED] "Connecting Failed" in Peer to Peer Server

I originally had it set to 1400 so I'll try re-enabling it. Is there a way to determine what the optimal setting should be? I've never messed with DDNS and don't know if it would make any difference. Anyone know? NAT is enabled but I'm not using any "dynamic routing". Do I need to? Do I need to change "Multicast" or "NAT Redirection"? I've never messed with these either, I think they're default setting. I have this disabled now. This is how I had it set up originally. I was giving priority to port 4 which is my gaming system. I had to have it set that way for an older game.

[ANSWRED] "Connecting Failed" in Peer to Peer Server

BI's suggestion was to update to the latest ArmaII patch 1.11 (just released) which I'm downloading right now. The other suggestion was firewall which I had already verified was off. I just misread the initial message. It turns out that neither are the problem though. I disconnected the router and was able to host. I have an older router (Linksys BESFR-41) which apparently has settings that are not compatible with ArmaII which is strange because it worked fine with ArmaI. It has the most recent firmware so I'm either going to have to figure out how to get a good path through my router by tweaking the settings for ArmaII or pick up a newer router. Is there anyone in here that is an expert with advanced router settings that may be able to look at my settings and see if there's something obvious? I would be happy to attach screen shots of the settings on the board.

[ANSWRED] "Connecting Failed" in Peer to Peer Server

Interesting problem solver, thanks for that info. I just received a message back from BI and they had some other potential solutions. I'm going to run some more tests this afternoon and see if I can resolve the problem. I'll post back here if I can figure it out. Thanks to all of you for the suggestions. I appreciate the help.

[ANSWRED] "Connecting Failed" in Peer to Peer Server

My windows firewall is off. I've already verified this to be the case. I've already stated that I've hosted many different military sims over the years (Steelbeasts, ArmaI, OFP, FalconAF, FalconBMS, JanesFA18, JanesLongbow, Ghost Recon, Rainbow6, TAW) and I have not had the same problem that I'm having with ArmaII. I've also experienced this same problem with two completely different operating systems with clean installs and no AV running and the firewalls off so it's not a firewall problem. I read a post about Nat session limit so I'm going to see if I can find some more information on that. It looks like it resolved a similar issue for someone else. I'll re-post here if I can find and fix the problem.

[ANSWRED] "Connecting Failed" in Peer to Peer Server

Firewall is off on my gaming system. I'll set the router to UDP only but don't think that will make any difference. What I meant by Peer to Peer is that, instead of connecting to a dedicated game server. Our squad uses a professional paid for gaming server but we like to do some client to client training sessions and haven't been able to get it to work. If you noticed in my post this exact same problem existed with my XP rig so it's not my computer. My firewall was off on the XP system as well and it worked fine with ARMAI and the original OFP. Thank you for your suggestions though.

I have the exact same problem whether I'm running just straight ARMAII or the Ace mods, but thank you for the suggestion.

  12. I'm almost through the major part of the campaign but I've run into a problem. I'm supposed to take the captured prisoner Lopotev to transfer him but when I get to the transfer point everything goes haywire. The voices are all out of sync and after the transfer I can't control my units any more. I also can't enter any vehicles and sometimes the figures freeze permanently. I also do not have a targeting reticle any more. I've tried it over and over several times but it won't continue correctly. It looks like something is majorly messed up in the cut scene and causes the next mission to crash. I'm almost through this part of the campaign and have captured the entire territory except for the Russian base so I really don't want to start over. Has anyone else run into this problem and know how to rectify it? Note: This is the stock campaign that comes with the disc and not the download version! Update: After the cut scene the mission freezes so there's definitely a bug in it. I found out the transfer of Lopotev is actually the last mission in the campaign. You're supposed to get attacked by Russian special ops soldiers but they freeze every time behind a building so that's why the mission goes bad. I found them on the map and killed them and then the mission slowly wound through the rest of the scripting to play the voices and text of the end of the mission. After that I was automatically returned to base and the campaign ended. Someone needs to take a look at that last cut scene and mission and fix whatever problems are in there. It took me a dozen or more attempts to get it to finish and with the wait for everything to load it takes a very long time to get through it each time so it's very frustrating.
  13. OK, if I have your attention then I'd like to say that support from BI is absolutely the most lacking I have seen in a long time. People are posting legitimate MP problems here and they're not getting addressed. I've posted a serious legitimate problem here and I wait for weeks and still get no or almost useless information. To BI, you guys need to fix the problem with the STEAM download! I've come to the conclusion after reading up on other threads that the problem with people setting up a private server in the MP setup and others not being able to connect is that there's something significantly different between the STEAM and boxed version. I have other players that can connect to my setup if they have the boxed version but one guy with the STEAM version that can't and vice versa. I've been a big fan since the original OFP days and played ARMA without having this issue. It's really sad because it's such a great sim and I would really like to invite other people to join me but they just get frustrated and quit. The available public servers run all kinds of mods that make it difficult to find one that's compatible so playing peer to peer is the only option for some of us. You're losing potential future customers by all the difficulties we're coming up against!

Support from BI for MP is extremely poor!

Gee, I finally get a response from someone from BI, what a surprise! If someone had told me I need to post more information back on May 30th I would have done so. So because I didn't have enough information it was just ignored instead of someone telling me what you just stated. MAYBE, someone should have pointed me there to begin with! ---------- Post added at 08:36 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:53 AM ---------- Great, another hoop to have to jump through. What fun!

Support from BI for MP is extremely poor!

OK, number one, there's nothing wrong with my tone. If you went back and looked at my original thread you would have seen that it was posted in the end of May. It took almost three weeks for someone to respond but it's not relevant since it pertains to dedicated servers. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=99748 The next time I posted on this problem was in another thread which was summarily ignored. Again, because it mainly pertains to dedicated servers but I was hoping that someone would pick up on it and give me a solution. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=99590 Second, I've been extremely patient and respectful of other people on this forum. I've never directly criticized anyone or said anything that could be construed as disrespectful and my complaint here is not without merit. I'm a pretty patient person but this is ridiculous. I've waited almost 2 months and still have the same problem and no one seems to know the answer! I play with a group of about 8 people and we've all been huge fans of OFP and ARMA but ARMAII is driving people nuts. I personally convinced about 5 people to buy it for the box price which was about $45 US and that $225 and now no one wants to play it because of all the problems. So close to $400 for all of us and we lost people right and left due to this issue. This is the official BI support forum correct? I mean that BI people are supposed to be reading the threads and responding to the forum correct? Well they don't or at least not enough. The lame excuse that they are a small company and that you may have had great support from them is not any excuse in my opinion. I'm frustrated and you're not, that's grand. I'm also not alone. I've been reading the forums enough for MP support and I continually see people with similar problems and lack of response. My point is that BI needs to get off their butts and address this issue is what I've been trying to point out. Not everyone likes to run on dedicated servers so this is a serious problem and if they're going to have a contract to let Steam provided a down-loadable version of the game, then they damn well better make sure that it works just the same as the one that comes out of the box!

    Can't connect to some servers

Hi Jman' date=' Sorry it took so long to respond. I've been away on a very long project and wasn't able to respond till now. Does this apply when you are just trying to run a peer to peer connection? We've each tried to run a dedicated server but get the same problem as we do in peer to peer. Are you saying we should add that line to the "server.cfg" and then see what the logfile says in order to troubleshoot the problem? BTW, this seems to be a problem with ARMAII only and not ARMAI. I've run plenty of peer to peer games and never run into this issue with ARMAI so Bohemia must have made a change to ARMAII that broke this feature or made it more difficult to use. ---------- Post added at 06:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:16 PM ---------- You are correct, that's exactly what we're doing but we also tried running a dedicated server, one on his end and one on mine and had the exact same problem.

    Can't connect to some servers

I'm having a weird problem. I can connect to dedicated servers and also can use the browser and connect to any of the public servers but can't connect to private servers when friends of mine are hosting. I can see the server in the list using the filter and see that it's password protected but when I put in the password it says "connecting failed". I'm thinking it has to be a specific server configuration setting but I've tried all kinds of different settings and still no go. I've been an avid gamer for close to 10 years now and have configured many routers over the years. I've tried DMZ, I'm using static IP's on my gamer system and others, I'm not using any firewall settings or anti-virus so none of those are the problem. I've even disconnected the router, added or removed ports and gone direct but still can't connect. The problem is definitely not in my router or on my end I believe but I could be wrong. Does anyone know if this is a server configuration problem and what the settings would be to resolve it?

1.07 Bugs: Report them here please.

    I get the same message!
  20. When I'm in Multiplayer sometimes when I go to the map screen, I'll get a weird bug where it keeps flashing "Receiving Units" and "Loading", like it's trying to go back to the 3D world but it will keep flashing on and off and won't go back. When this happens the players on the other end that are connected to me can still play the scenario perfectly fine, in fact the guy I was with the other night actually finished the mission without me. The sim kept running fine as a host but kept me out of the game. I tried everything possible, pushing and holding the "m" key and tapping on it. Tapping on the movement keys. The problem was persistent. This has happened to me several times now and the only solution is to end the program in Task Manager. I thought it was a video driver problem so I installed the latest ones but it didn't change the problem. This has only occurred in Multiplayer and never in single player or in campaign mode. It also occurred once when I was connected to a dedicated server. I do have the ACE2 mod but it happened with it disabled as well. I am running two EAH5770 cards crossfired but I turned off anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering or left it on application controlled. I'm using the latest drivers as well. I'm not absolutely positive but I believe this problem happened with just the single card as well. Boxed version ARMAII patched to 1.05 ACE2 Mods Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 Genuine Intel Quad Core Q9650 4 GB System Memory 2 ASUS EAH5770 crossfired video cards Rampage Extreme Motherboard
  21. Is there a fix like this for peer to peer servers or is this just for dedicated servers? If so, where can I find this configuration?

    Dogs of War problem (spoilers)

I have the exact same problem. I have more than enough funds and can't buy any air vehicles. I can only buy troops, light vehicles and tanks. I think that's just the way the campaign is built. To speak to the other problem, I found out the hard way that once you have 12 troops, you can't buy any more vehicles. I purchased 4 empty tanks and then 8 troop units to drive them and used them for most of the campaign. My tanks got damaged and I had to replace them but couldn't. What I did was I sent all of the added troops to the Russian air base where they got killed immediately. After that I was able to purchase new tanks and the old ones got salvaged. I hated to waste the good men that way but I was stuck and you can't team kill them or you get sent back home. Other thing you mentioned about the red retaking areas. Station one T-72 and a BMP or a couple T-72's at a key point like Staroye and leave them there. The red side keep spawning AI and trying to take that spot until you destroy their HQ. It's hard but you just have to keep certain areas occupied or the red keep retaking them back. After you reach a tipping point the green forces gain enough momentum to take significant areas on their own and the war is won for the most part.

    Dogs of war problems

I can only answer #4 because I haven't experienced the other problems you're having. You have to destroy the enemy HQ vehicle. I tried it a bunch of different ways but it's hard to destroy and takes lots of damage to do. I finally did it with a T-72 and I think it took about 6 or 7 main gun hits. If you don't kill the HQ vehicle it will continue to spit out troops and then it will slowly rebuild the base by adding barracks and then vehicle production facilities. Once you finally destroy the HQ vehicle itself, the HQ is gone for good and no more enemy units will come from that area.

Can't get command back in MP

Man, that's excellent information. Yeah, obviously it's a big change from ARMAI. I really appreciate your response and clarification! Thank you!

Can't get command back in MP

When playing in a large group with re-spawn on when the human group leader is killed, no one from our group gets command position back or takes command of the squad. Is this a function of each individual mission or is it a global feature of the game now? If so, is there a way to make it like original OFP or ARMA?
