Can't BIS not sell new maps as DLC's? Personally I think there is plenty of content already. I do not even use BAF content most of the time, there is already so many men/vehicles/weapons you can use.
The small maps are pretty much useless for me, I only use them for testing. Also with small maps you can not make use of air combat properly. I will be happy to pay for new big diverse maps!
Ultimately I would like to see an easy map editor where you can start with a blank map and create hills/mountains and roads and also adding vegitation and buildings etc.

JTD FAS will indeed do as you wish :) but, like other addons it's susceptible to script-lag, so your hardware will decide how effective it is.The fire damage works like this: when you start to get burned, your current health is recorded and you start to take increasing damage over time. If you stay in the fire too long, you will eventually die, but if you make it out in time your health is restored to it's original value. I found this approach to be a workable solution, fires are dangerous but you can gamble with your health if you're nippy :)
Yeah that is indeed what I was looking for. I have a underpowered pc (saving for a new one) at this moment so if it is hardware demanding I hope I will able to use it. If it also can set buildings on fire and vegitation then thats just great :)
-
Well it is just a suggestion of course. Personally i rather have some kind of damage when you walk through a fire then being able to stand in the fire without any injury. Even if the damage system would not be fully realistic it is better then being fire proof.
Although you can make some nice screenshots with a men standing in the fire :)
-
Yeah I have idea how that would have to be coded, i'm not a dev :P
Would it not be possible to get some kind of proximity damage? Any player or AI that gets in a certain radius of fire particles will receive damage?
-
The one thing I find unrealistic in ArmA are the fires. You can stand in the middle of a large fire and dance around in it and nothing will happen, you do not get injured or killed at all.
I hope that damage enabled fire will be implemented in the future and then also maybe add a flamethrower. With the flame thrower you could burn down opfor occupied houses for example or opium fields on a future map :)

Whats hard about it? You press the space bar (or the F buttons) to select the team and point your mouse to the vehicle and select 'get in'.... which has already been mentioned I see now :)

Hi.I had the same issue and fixed it by increasing my Swap file size.
here's how:
- open the windows start menu
- right click on Computer select Properties
- in the System Window click on Advanced System Settings at the left of the window
a small window opens with the Advanced Tab active - - select Settings under Performance (the top most option)
another small window opens - go to the second Tab (Advanced) and click on Change... under the Vitrual Memory Option
you will see yet another small window.
- now uncheck Automatically manage paging file size for all drives
- select the top most drive in the scroll field (should be C: )
- check Custom Size
- enter the same number in both Fields (Initial Size and Maximum Size)
[The value should be 2.5 * the ammount of your RAM - e.g. 4GB system RAM * 2.5 = 10000] - now click on Set to confirm the setting.
-
OK out of all those windows, you might have to restart Windows.
Thats it.
The 2.5 times thing seems to be a general recommendation when it comes to windows performance. It has been since WIN98 - dont ask me why :) but when i adjusted this ARMA stopped crashing - and i dont argue with results.
Edit: Of course this means you need to have the required ammount of free HD space on that partition.
Tip:It can help immensly to have the swap file on a different Physical drive than the game since the virtual memory file is constantly being accessed as is the game folder.
I think you are spot on here. I never have the out of memory issue, even with really heavy load missions (including mission Call to Glory that was reffered to on page 7), because my virtual memory is increased a lot (at least 4 times more then normal).
At least I think thats the reason why I never have those crashes....
- open the windows start menu
-
Hi, it is not the mission that is causing it. I haven't had a crash yet with this mission.
Pls see this thread, there are more people that have this problem with other missions.

edit to add: That I am not having this issue maybe because I have increased the virtual memory on my pc a lot.
This is an ingame screenshot while playing this mission. As you can see I have high cpu usage, but thats because my pc is underpowered. Virtual memory is using about 3.5 Gb (and I have plenty left). I also had some programs running on the background so normal usage would even be less then in this pic.
-
Well then I am puzzled
I could not find anything else that might activate these crashes. For me it runs better then ever now. It is really to bad, cos it is a nice mission (not to praise myself) I play it frequently in SP mode.
-
Ok I hopefully should have fixed the out of memory issue. I think it was the garbage collector (deleting dead bodies) that caused it. I notice a positive improvement myself after I edited the code. Hope it is improved for everyone and playable again :)
The download link can be found in the first post.

Well the good news is that I do have some time to work on the mission next few days. I see if i can fix the memory issue, I suspect it is a faulty trigger somewhere.

Hi, i've been killed by AIs that were shooting through the broken window glass; i was inside the house and gave away my possition as my bullets didn't went through the glass, while the AI's bullets did. This is also very common with the bushes, while my bullets don't use to pass by the bush, the AI's bullets do it every single time; i know that something is wrong on this things, but i don't know what's exactly wrong. Let's C yaThis.
I tried the new map yesterday for the first time. I was in the gas station/shop house and most bullets did not hit the AI through the broken glass, the AI had no trouble killing my team and myself though. Same problem when a couple of AI were hiding behind a bush.

A jungle map would be very cool, but vegitation = lag, on my pc anyway. Winter landscapes I really do not want to see, in shooter every game I ever played that had a winter scenery mission, those missions were my least favorites.
I would like to see a map of the brazillian favela's (not very original after COD4, I know), but I really like that setting. Swamp map or a rocky mountains like map would be cool too.
As long as it is a BIG map :)
-
All I want is DLC's with new big maps :)

Hi there, I just played it with combined ops and OA. I do not get any errors or crashes at all and I am playing it with an underpowered PC too. When the mission starts there is some lag, because of all the stuff that is activating, but thats just for a couple of seconds. After that it plays smoothly for me.
Everyone can edit the mission as they please, like removing custom sounds or side missions or adding stuff. I do not have time to work on this or my other missions for the moment....unfortunately.
-
I finally had time to edit/upload a few more videos again...Random stuff, screwing around.
[your vid]
That made me laugh my ass off hehe

Having some fun with the SU-25, trying to fly as low as possible through the valley's, passes and towns without getting killed. To bad My Gcard can't handle anyglyph 3d. Would look epic swooshing over the tree tops and through towns in 3d :)

Thats just my lazyness >_<
I could fancy it up, but in the end that wont make it more fun, just makes the mission appear more slick, while it is baically the same mission.

Updated the mission for SP mode (v.1.5), see opening post for update notes :)
-
I put that mission in the zip file and again on the rapidshare... Hopefully it can be downloaded now...You could try http://www.sharebee.com/
if you upload it there it will make it available on many different download sites at once. People can then choose an other link if one site is unavailable for download.
Havent downloaded your mission yet, but I will :)

One of my mission: Morning Wipeout.
Nice east side airforce mission with an active AI airfield.
mbcewHGXZOM
Texture settings very high, everything else set to normal, AA and post procces disabled. 4.5km draw, 3D res 87%.
Normally I use a bit higher settings, but I can't when also recording.

Heya Cougs,
Atm to many reward vehicles spawn after completing an objective making the mission a bit unbalanced easy. It should spawn one vehicle, but it now spawns 1 + 1 for every player in the game. So if you play it with 6 people it spawns 7 vehicles lol. Not intended ofcourse. The coding seems to work different on a sever then in SP mode (did not knew that when I scripted it).
The opfor choppers and jets are on air patrol. They fly around between several towns and they patrol the roads in between towns. They all have the patrol script in them so I am not sure why one or more did not engage, will look into it.
I personally always use the advanced AI setting making them a bit more nasty, you could try that to make it a bit harder untill I have updated the mission :)

Hiya,
I am having issues on occasion with unloaded (white) textures and half loaded meshes. Now I know this not new, more people have that problem. For me it happens the most with air missions where I cover a lot of land fast, the textures loading do not seem to keep up with the flight speed.
What I wondering about though is why do the textures have to reload from scratch everytime? Arent those textures already loaded in the cache?
I have a bit of experience with virtual platforms and there when a texture is loaded, it is loaded from cache permanently on any object it renders, same for loading meshes. With arma the textures seems to reload from scratch on every bush and tree you pass again and again. There are maybe a dozen of bush and tree types in arma, you would think that when the trees and bushes have been rendered once, they would not need to reload again from scratch? Or does texture loading work totally different in pc games?
Just curious how that works in arma as I never have those texutre problems in any other pc game.

A quickly made large AI battle, laggy as hell, but loads of action :)
Approx 500 AI and added 4 town modules.

and yes, no fancy camera work. just 1st person view :)

I just want more big and more diverse maps for OA and more new buildings.

[coop/sp] Operation SharpEdge [ArmA CO]
in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS

Co8/SP
Combined Operations
Zargabad
You and your team have been dropped off at a village near Zargabad.
The city Zargabad is infested with militia forces and supported by the Takistan army with motorized and air patrols.
Your job is to advance to the city and complete multiple objectives that you will receive along the way.
At this moment there are 4 main objectives that you will have to complete:
- Destroy the militia explosives stash
- Kill the Imam of the central mosque (HVT)
- Stop the opium export
- locate and destroy the stolen BQM's (new)
This mission is mostly created for the fun of urban combat where some objectives have been added to lead you through the city.
It is a tough/challenging infantry mission probably most appealing to ex military people.
I have kept this mission as low lag as possible, so no custom sounds or a zillion AI waypoints etc.
The mission is designed for MP mode, but it can also be played in SP... it will be very tough in SP mode to keep your team alive though (try playing SP in MP mode so that the team will respawn).
In MP mode You will respawn instantly on the spot you died (30 sec wait time).
You can use your former dead body to rearm yourself (body deletes after a few minutes) or find a rearm point when you are low on ammo.
Features:
- Wound healing (bandages) in SP mode
- Scripted AI patrols (fortified). AI will use the buildings for cover.
- Combined Ops weapons and music
- Mechanized, motorized and chopper patrols
- Environment effects
- Auto adjustment draw distance
- Mixed skilled AI
- Several rearm points in Zargabad
- Gear is saved after respawn
- Respawn at the spot you died.
- Garbage collecting (deleting dead AI)
First 22 minutes preview on youtube (SP in MP mode)
HRCT9G25EmM
Version 1.1
The mission had to much fog, removed it mostly.
Version 1.2
- Added a new objective
- Reduced the amount of AI a bit
- Added customized weapons to AI (Militia will also use shotguns and uzi's)
- Some civilians are hostile and may carry uzi's
- Included the mission map for easy editing. (pls give me credits if you want to publish a new version of the mission)
