Just a quik question, I'ved looked on a couple of sites but have yet to find a VSTOL/STOVOL script. Anyone know where I might find one? Thanks!
you do it by himself, using SetPot and SetVelocity things.
like i did in OFP:R times for Su-25 crCTI fork ;-)
sadly i nearly completely forgot even syntax :[ just recently found trying make simple mod for SP].

dump traffic and analyze it.
something like Wireshark woul b enough 4 start.
its always better to KNOW instead of keeping guessing, just like how profilers and debuggers made for binaries/appz/libs and similary-essential diagnosis tools in medicine, math, security, management :)
basically if can be ANY router between you server and you router.
also aside opening ports/virtual servers/port triggering/DMZ ensure you firewall is NAT-friendly, ie NAT-essential challenges/datagramms can pass by/thru.
then start shoting down mods, starting from ACE and ACRE.
-
hm, probably gamespy services/servers issues/downtime/overload. or netflow/ISP trouble.
and/or BE/Fade-related cheating/Piracy countering effects in actions.
for example.
my best guess - 1st one. after DayZ zombies invade players slots, handling Arma2 online by BE become more troublesome, obviously.
-
password-protected gaming slots support would be nice idea for Arma2 modmaking, btw ;)
-
aside standalone/included missions from BIS, you see in list, check some CO missions and of course try Warfare or WOO :)
-
would be EPIC'aly handy 4 Warfare conversions "Crusaders versus Assasins" or "Richard lionheart lifestory" or "Robin Hood warfare" :)
and some others epic stories from medieval history :) riding/siege/assaulting Carthage or Rome ? saving Greece ? repel Turkey ? re-do Napoleon or Macedon empire ? wannabe a Temujin ? LaoTsu ? Japan shogun ?
no problem !! with little help of shiny/new shuper-duper-cool addons for wonderful Arma2 *waves magic wand and such DLC box appear in hands*
p.s.
mid-east should fight ingame[within Arma2 ;]rather than in real-life, IMO :)
p.p.s.
also would be nice to have mods for "Ninjas versus Samurai" or "China versus Japan" or "Kung-Foo Tuournament"[cyberfight mode ;]conversions ;)

you do realize that 64bit means double actual memory used, basically need increase of memory size on clients too :)so 32bit with LAA which already can do 4GB directly and as (read our older devblog) we can do N indirectly via systems file cache
i did realise it didn't.
some difference[but far from 2x] in footprint happen, but it insignificantly low[for presently used/sold systems/PC]and extremely beneficiary proofited from, compared.
4Gb ? LAA on x64 OS ? it won't too, sadly. never SAW it using it.
"indirectly via system cache" didn't work. sometimes didn't work at all, sometimes didn't work fast/reliable enough. and btw it was done not thru messing with fs cache. So its not option for using ingame by gamedev software developers.
side-note: such attempts appear like trying doing eye surgery thru ass. p.s. sorry for my French[lang].
@Dwarden - I'm really impressed that BIS is still getting up to 4 gigs worth of memory on the 32 + the system cache (but you take an I/O hit). Just curious when the 64-bit versions of Arma are coming... 3? 4? Just messing with you, I'm sure it's in the pipe somewhere.@Bushlurker - I would actually be more interested in the tightly compacted objects on the map as well.
we're do have "compacted" content in OFP:R times, ie 4bpp and 8 bpp 128x128 and below textures and even in OFP:R times players/modders frequently hitting 2Gb barrier.
so basically footprint was grown about/more than 10x times, at quite optimisticall look/settings/setup.
p.s.
put 8km viewdistance on HUGE island with 1m[or more precise] grid and high-poly/geometry objects w/lot of 4096x4096 textures, and necesarrily footprint spike to hundreds of Gb of RAM.

I keep hearing people talking about getting 60+ FPS in Chernogorsk with 4.8 GHz Sandy Bridge CPUs....maybe I need to upgrade? :butbut:for 4.8 OC SB/iB CPU you need:
1. lucky CPU exemplar.
2. CPU cooler, that cost 1/2-1/3 of CPU price. like TR Archon[also TR SA 140 wasn't bad too], Scythe Mine2, CM TP812, Zalman CNPS14X and etc.
3. decent mainboard with good power-system and well-made firmware/BIOS.
4. decent PC case for good space for components and suitable for high airflow, essential for it, ie installing about 4-6 120mm/140mm/200mm fans into it and PSU slot below w/hole.
5. forget about silence. reliable [above average]overclocking WITHOUT sacrificing long-term reliability wasn't fit with acoustic comfort, regardless investments/budget. otherwise, both CPU/Mobo/RAM/GPU/Storage/PSU will suffer badly over [surprisingly closer. than expected]time.
so, my advice is sticking with 4.2/4.4 attempts on iNtel.
no [nasty]overvoltage, no side-issues and nearly as quick as 4.8.

1. wait for such appz update for 1.62.
2. temporally[to check/test] disable anything affecting. such as RivaTuner, MSI Afterburner, PowerStrip.
3. get rid of other appz, that can use service-level services or kernel-level drivers[in shady mode].
4. Ensure you get updated DirectX and try re-update it again.
5. update you antivirus and run COMPLETE system scan. preferably in boot-time mode, if you AV support this[also turing on SMM/SMI feats in McAfee AV could help 2].
-
you can use "start" command options to do that.
generally its [reasonably]not recomended to messing/fiddling with priority/affinity of already/launched/working processes/services/applications.
flush-out anything related with energy-saving in firmware/BIOS and operating system, grab Autoruns from Sysinternals suite and disable anything you see reasonably redundant, including [most of. except one]Task Sheduler jobs. or do EXTREME stripping-down of Windows distro by vLite/RT7Lite.
basically best use of extra-threads is attempt to combine launch of dedicated server on one of them and client - on different cores ;-)
CPU saturation start skyrocketing AGAIN ;)
-
with pressure of [immensely]increased Terrain and viewdistance footprint/impact on memory usage, engine forced to pressure back objects level of detail more heavily/intense.
basically 64-bit binaries would be only ONE valid/long-term option to ensure stability AND decent appearance of feats-rich/huge/detailed landscape with HUGE viewdistance, around which concept, Arma2, is built.
-
rename it back and use shortcut/icon properties to pick particular icon to represent it on desktop/in explorer/folders.

"Free" version shouldn't be able be registered on-the-fly by someone/online identity with [detected/verified/monitored]online/activity time of life less than month or so, it remaining ABSOLUTELY free economically, it be somewhat valuable asset for [potential]cheaters 2 lose thus.
and im also suggested to turn down Arma2 Free from original state 2 such approach, by releasing [mandatory] 1.12 patch, designed SOLELY for this purpose.
dunno what it would be. manually[by BIS forum/FB robot/script or salesppl]activated On-way [elliptic curve/assymetric] crypto challenge ?
-
its eventually out after Arma3 released, just like BIS did for Arma2 vanilla, after OA, CO, and RFT released.
so it would be Reinforcement Lite or thing kinda like it.
what is more disturbing me is BIS lack of control on activation/registering it. so IMO, "Free" version shouldn't be able be registered on-the-fly by someone/online identity with [detected/verified/monitored]online/activity time of life less than month or so, it remaining ABSOLYTELY free economically, remain somewhat valuable for [potential]cheaters.

-
as long as BIS-related pulishers not active in promoting/advertising/selling anymore in past and today, probably BIS would need 2 find another way/strategy to advertise/distribute/sell it.
basically i prefer approach, picked by Runic, but personally that mean im screwed, cuz its [untolerable]complicated compared to "just buy a box in offline store" counterpart in retail version case].
IMO, Google+ and Facebook along with Youtube and Google ads programm advertisement could bring more customers than ALL efforts in years before.
as we're can see on DayZ example.
probably BIS should setup related competition for such resources/networks with minor, but cute awards and sign advertisement contract with Google[and/or US DoD/Navy did that in exchange of [minor]discount 4 VBS3;].

If arma2 were to be able to saturate the fill rate of AMD's 7970 (I don't think that's possible),a bigger amount of ram wouldn't do anything about it.Swiped on my Optimus2X with Tapas
with viewdistances above default, difference between NVidia and AMD become striking, especially in air.
fillrate, texturing rate - anything matter, but above some point, CPU become trap for anything :[
p.s.
GPU onboard memory meant.
-
Will it be persistent!? :Pit can be toggleable before mission launch by "is OMGTFY are ok ?" drop-box set to "Texas Chainsaw is the answer, boy !" option.
-
I'm guessing this has been answered before, but is this compatible with ACE?i hope, it wasn't[for reliability/security purpose].
-
basically high-resolution/scale islands/terrain in Arma2 are EXTREMELY memory-hungry, so imprving them considerably without 64-bit binaries whouldn't be option anymore(from Arma1 times if not earlier) :(
-
preferably divide used/installed between SEPARATED ram-disks.
so, i put my swap file on one of them, Arma2 on second and GIMP/RawTherapee/Photoshop[and God-only-know-what-else-software-you-can-use :)]on third.
placing USER and/or System temp-folders on ramdisk is speed-up things too, but more dangerous[4 power-failures impact w/o PSU usage], but had notable effect too. palliative would be to alter such variables[pointing("%TMP";"%TEMP%"; to such folders TEMPORALLY before running Extremely resource-hungry appz, such as games and reverting it back, after it, probably by batch[cmd/bat/js/vbs-file(or some other syntax/language]file, used to running it
-
well, well-know that Arma2 seriously CPU-hungry, som you GPU performance wouldn't be issue, unless it something like GTX430/HD5450.
basically only AMD slightly benefited from GPU OC, cause they bottlenecked by [saturated]ROP's/redering backends/fillrate in Arma2[especially with HUGE viewdistances].
crazy tip: try temporally[in e-shop. or be a guest to you friends with such GPU in PC] 6Gb edition of such cards.
would be nice to know how it perform ingame too :)
-
generally, yes. and Valve provide transparent rolling distribution platform and support[but im strictrly don't buy SW online, at all].
but Arma2/Arma3 don't need "porting" in common sense, it can support BOTH API's, seamlessly, cause not much stuff [so]API-dependent and exclusions are extremely portably[sM3.x shaders here GL/CL/AL/SDL/OpenMAX counterparts].
kinda remind me Glide/3dFx times support by BIS in past days ;)
and BTW, maybe NVidia helps too ? :)
sadly they don't had [robust]OpenCL support, yet, handy not only for [extemely scalable]AI's or Physic, but for GFX too, already[better than SLi or CFx does!!!]in drivers :[
-
rumors, say that crytek has developing a game like Arma, i hope that there will be a 3d editor in arma 3 because the editor of cryengine is fantastic!!!look this video on simulator in partenrship with lockeed martins (too Codish IMHO)
Please DO NOT quote images videos!
note exactly.
this thing intend to compete with VBS3, not Arma3.
to counter Arma3 they made Warface[and rumored second MP game], wich is CoD-ish, yes :[
Rumours say that BIS devs need more coffee and cookies.... so they can make one devblog per month. :)/me considering making Arma2 mod for this ;)
[trucks, retextured with "full of Cookies" and "Wonderful coffee !! gamedev edition mk2" cistern, wouldn't be enough, sadly :[

1. Heavily tune firewall. switch from FW-grimmick lick conntrack stuff to something more serious. like zorp or so. in especially-hostile environment, turn on and tune convener-attacking feats.
[sometimes]it would be surprising to attacker 2 see message shortly before being offended too. not recommended "in general".
2. deploy/update/configure full-scale IPS/IDS, such as Snort, Suricata and etc.
3. purchase hardware IPS/Firewall thingy. partially offload/shrug-off ~40% of stuff.
4. ENFORCE DEP/NX full-time[Windows users can use something like "bcdedit.exe/set nx AlwaysOn" with administrator privilege/rights, for reference].
5. put tiny/LW EWS IDS-stuff, alike PSAD on server and heavily tune it on-topic too.

1.
Add-on, which simplifying [vanilla]Arma2 server managing
with support of various tweaks.
number of new extra event-handlers and good use for old ones.
preferably without need to touch scripting/config much, thru game UI or mission menu.
for example, people would be auto-kicked for excessive tk amounts, ruining team assets or do other things.
IP-space info management/use would be warmly welcome aswell as spoofing detection[always-updating/persistent players DB help alot] as well as perma/temp-banning and/or forced respawning or setPos/Vel stuff.
and etc and etc[turn on imagination and sad memories from Arma2 online for proper input/ideas, which/what should be detected/punished.
so in result, server admin may leave server for some time, being sure, that at least some[nastiest by his(personal)opinion]things don't let unpunished by server-side-enforced restrictions/policies, instead of relying on [unreliable, frequently absent and fraudulent]manpower/admin.
2.
add-on converging A2Warmod http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?108520-A2WarMod-Release with HETMAN http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?129003-HETMAN-Artificial-Commander/page92 into something seamlesly persisting/evolving/living/fighting on global-scale :)
with support of both economics, logicstics and politics on global/common sense, to ensure it seamlessly/reasonably/intrestingly governing war itself.
probably with inter-servers communication/trade/relations and even ability to send/spawn [bots-controlled] on different servers and other off-map support features.
3.
add-on to support password-protecting server slots[for admins/judges/press/moviemaking&etc]
4. add-on, adding ability to join/open/use fifth side[ambient/dead/destroyed]server slots.
5. add-on that adds support for [customizabl]Autosave for MultiPlayer modes/serrvers. preferably with support of remote backup[for disaster issues, countering].
6. MC-12W ISAR [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISTAR] Aircraft.
http://youtu.be/j48e2mHlIWw
http://youtu.be/LA2NXZqZOXg
7. Northrop Firebird two-mode[uAV and piloted]Bronco remake
8. mod, that allow to alter appearance/size/color of map-placed marker in 3D/FPS/TPS/Overview Perspective/PoV.
9. add-on, adding random encounters support/provision to ANY mission gameplay without mission modification.
