  1. I have basically settled for using the SLX first aid system instead of the ACE one. Don't get me wrong, I like the ACE system, but I would rather have the awesome features of SLX than the ACE wounding and first aid system. The only two files I'm using out of the optional SLX stuff is slx_birds.pbo and SLX_NoSurrender.pbo. I was getting crashes when the enemy ai would try to surrender.

SLX is such a great mod. I really hope Solus continues to work on it and works with the ACE guys to get them working well together. These two mods combined is as good as it gets!

    Couldn't agree more :)

  2. On a computer with 64-bit version of Windows 7, a quad-core processor and 6 Gig of RAM, do either of those parameters do anything if you're not running SLI?

For instance if I set -maxmem=4096, will it use 4 Gig instead of maxing out at just 2? I think I read it defaults back to the 2 Gig switch if you put in anything above that.

Also, for the winxp switch - is that only for SLI?

  3. metalcraze - those temperatures you posted are actually really good for the video card, so it's definitely not that - unless it's mis-reporting the temps.

What happens if you loop the most intense 3dMark test?

How do you set this scenario up?

Started Warfare 8 vs 8 vs 8 on Chernarus with 40 cities and rebels set to very high (as you can see it's a one stress test) and let it run for an hour

I'd like to try the same thing and then see if I get a slowdown or weirdness too. I have random crashes but always assumed it was my Saitek X52 Pro since most of the time I crash when exiting the control options panel.

Also, what crashlog are you reading (and how do I access it). I should double check mine and see if I get a similar message. If you just got your card you should be able to exchange it and BFG has a very good warranty - but it would stink to have to RMA it and go without for a while. Worse, if it's not the video card after all it would be more frustrating.

I'm still a little new to Arma so if you can help me do the same things you are that'd be great (and I'd learn a bunch while trying to replicate your problems). Which drivers did you settle on? I'm stickign with 196.21 until they get the bugs fixed with 197.xx

  4. @Kroky

Did you have any luck when using the SLX_NoFirstAid.pbo? Has anyone come across any new problems when using ACE and SLX? I'm really wanting to use these two together but it seems my server has crashed a couple times when using the combo.

I'm experiencing some noticeable fram rate reduction when using it. I'm still puttering around with each mod independantly, but I really love this mod and how the people react, the wounding, chatter etc. It's so immersive. Hopefully Solus is still working on it, but I can totally see how one can get burned out.

  5. metalcraze - I really think you need to try a fresh install of Arma2. Copy your folders and your config files, then do a full unistall. Then do a re-install and install the patch & beta patch. Then boot it up (with no mods) to see if flying plane works properly again. ArmA2 can have conflicted files when swapping hardware as it may keep settings from the old card that aren't compatible with the new card. After you've confirmed everything works OK, then start adding mods back on.

I just discovered an inexplicable but welcome increase in FPS when changing NVIDIA's "threaded optimization" option in the NVIDIA control panel for the Arma2-specific settings.

When I set it to AUTO, I got 14 FPS in Benchmark 2. When set to either ON or OFF as opposed to AUTO, my FPS was 16 with the same benchmark... Tried it back and forth several times and the FPS gain/loss is repeatable each time. Going from 14 to 16 FPS is a 15% improvement.

I have an I-7 920 overclocked to 3.8GHZ so for users without multi-core CPUs this may not apply or be an option. I am running NVIDIA's 197.13 drivers and also twin GTX260 cards with SLI and Physx enabled. Also running XP32.

I've read that Arma2 is NOT multi-threaded so I have no idea why this option would have an effect on FPS. Maybe the NVIDIA setting is something specific to the GPUs rather than the game .exe

The FPS results above were run with ALOT of Arma2 add-on mods which are certainly more demanding on the system than plain vanilla Arma2, specifically:

    "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\arma2.exe" -mod=@CBA;@sthud;@ACE;@ACEX;@sakusun;@HiFi_ACE;@HiFi_Air;@HiFi_SFX;@HiFi_Vehicle_Weapons;@HiFi_Weapons_Long;@WarFX_Particles_Beta_1.41;@GL4 -nosplash -world=empty

The mods make a big difference in FPS in an intensive, system straining benchmark like this. In regular gameplay where there is rarely, if ever so much going on the FPS hit is not nearly as bad. And for me the improvements are more than worth it. If I run the same graphic settins but no mods on a bone-stock plain vanilla Arma2 my FPS rises to 23 in Benchmark 2 - thats nearly a 40% difference from 16FPS. Dropping GL4 alone from the mods above makes a 4 FPS difference for me for example in that benchmark 2. Ace2 is about a 2-3 FPS hit.

    My in-game video options settings:

    Arma2settings.jpg

Also in NVIDIA control panel I have:

Vsync & Triple buffering = forced ON

In "regular" singleplayer gameplay versus Benchmark 2 I am getting a low of around 42FPS and the majority of the time 55-60 (with Vsync on I am maxed at 60FPS as that is my monitor's refresh rate).

I'm going to give this a try. Any particualr reason why you have vysnc on? I hear the game was supposed to run faster with it off?

  6. My deepest apologies if this has been answered already. I read a few of the past pages and wasn't sure I understood.

    * Is there a way I can use just the logistics part of this package (the moving stuff around and loading stuff onto trucks)? I'm trying to learn Arma in small parts and the logistics will help me a lot with base-building scenarios.

    * Is this compatible with ACE2 and all its extras?

    * Is the logistics part compatible with Mando Missiles?

  7. I use the [Alt] Key + Mouse and/or the arrow keys on my numpad to adjust my view so i can look more down when im flying a chopper for example, but a cam mounted on the nose of the aircraft would be great like you say :)

I'm very interested in the exact view you're getting. Can you post a screenshot of "default" view vs. the view you like to end up with after moving things around? I'm not sure I understand how looking down more helps unless you're able to sit higher in the aircraft and look down... but I don't think that's possible?

    Thanks for the help! :)

  8. The sign of a good game is when you're done playing and have to hit bed, your mind decides it wasn't done having fun and wants to play some more.

So my dream - I was back at my computer and was looking through the aircraft choices again, and to my surprise I found a secret category. In it was the AC-130 Spooky Gunship. This was an amazing coincidence because I'd just been practicing FAC lasing and this spooky was outfitted with the ability to pound a target with all tis guns at once as it followed the laser designator. So I set myself up in a huge battle and it was so exciting/intense I woke my wife up to come watch the mayhem. She rolled her eyes and told me not to wake her up again for a game. It was surprising she was asleep however since I'd turned my speakers up to full and the house was shaking from the noise. After obliterating nearly everything on the screen I decided to hop in the plane to "be" the gunner, but sadly the dream became all fuzzy and I couldn't see anything. So I hopped into the pilots seat and was able to fly the craft in a gentle banking oval so the gunners could obliterate the targets on the ground.

Funny thing is, it was so real that when I woke up I wasn't quite sure if I'd dreamt all that or if I had actually done it and it was hazy since I've been sick and had taken meds to help me sleep when I was finishing up playing. So I went in-game to see if maybe it'd been real... nope.

  9. hello i play arma 2 alot and during a multiplayer game a friend wanted me to bomb a marked target that he has marked with a laser marker. the thing was i didnt know how to bom the target. do i have to lock the target or what. plz help

How do your friend lase the target?

  10. I'm just in a mission I made with some LGB Harriers and I'd like to Lase a target for them to destroy. how do I do this, and what type of grunt do I need to select that has this feature (the laser)? Then do you have to manually call for the Harriers to come in and bomb it even if they're already overhead?
