Above you see a hwinfo32 systemdump.

Why on Earth are you running your processor at such a horribly slow speed? Or is the the Intel speed step down? If you have a good heatsink/fan you can crank that chi up to 3.5 GHz with almost no tweaking, and 4.0 with added voltage.

  2. First I hope I'm putting this in the right sub-forum. If I didn't please accept my apologies.

    * I'm thinking of looking for a good deal on a second NVidia geForce GTX 295 since it seems a lot of people with them are selling them to move to the 400 series cards.

    * I've never run SLI before and am pretty scared I might be wasting my money if it doens't do what I expect. That being said, in ArmA2 the second card would basically make it so I can max out FSAA and Anisotropic Filtering making my cpu the only bottleneck in the game... right? Maxing out graphic settings and running a super high resolution would be worth it for me, but if it won't let me do this, then it wouldn't.

    * Can I use two cards from different companies? I have an eVGA card...could I use a BFG or PNY card that's a GTX 295? Or do they have to both be from eVGA and be the exact same model?

Thanks to anyone who pops in to discuss.

  3. Dear BI. I am super excited about the coming release of Operation Arrowhead. This is one of those times where I really want to make sure as much of the money I spend on this game goes directly to you and not a retailer or 3rd party. But I also understand sales figures in big box stores is important as well.

This is why I'm asking where, as a person living in the United States, should I (and others who want to follow my lead) pre-order/purchase the upcoming Operation Arrowhead to make sure it counts the most for you?

    Best Wishes,

    -Jeff :)

  4. I just spent the last hour on this (didn't know if anyone would up this late) and this is what I came up with on my own for the A10:

    this removemagazines "2Rnd_Maverick_A10";this removemagazines "2Rnd_Sidewinder_AH1Z";this removemagazines "14Rnd_FFAR";this removemagazines "4Rnd_GBU12"

I came to this by going backwards from adding a Javelin to a soldier. In another vein when I try to add ammo I'm having no success. What is the context for how many rounds/magazine you want to give them? is it just a comma, then the number you want them to have? ie. Giving my guy a Javelin antitank and want to also add 3 rounds (so far I can add the Javelin with the magazine syntax, but ammo syntax doesn't work):

    this addweapon "Javelin";this addammo "M_Javelin_AT",3
<-------- so far that doesn't work

  5. Put 180 in every one. It works so that it randomizes a value between the min and max value. The mid value can be used to make the randomization more partial towards either end.

I.e. if you have it set to min=60, mid=150 and max=180 then there's a 50% chance the value will be somewhere between 60 and 150, and a 50% chance it'll be somewhere between 150 and 180.

Wonderful, thank you so much for the description. This is going to make my scenarios really nice. :)

  6. YOU DO NOT NEED A PAGE FILE WITH VISTA/WIN7 X64 WITH 6GB OR MORE RAM. Turn it off. It is useless for 64bit.

You are 100% wrong. Using a 64-bit OS has no bearing whatsoever on how software was programmed, and most software requires some use of a pagefile - not because it needs RAM but because of how their code is written. Please do not give people incorrect tech advice that will ultimately crash their computers.

  7. It alleviates what is probably attributable to 'cache thrashing'.

It seems to be unique to Win 7 (and maybe to 64 bit versions but I've never run Win 7 32 so I can't confirm that).

Some people actually have to disable HT in the bios in order to get rid of it although I have always managed to circumvent it with just the command line switch.

Disabling HT in the BIOS is the recommended option for gamers. Not a single high fidelity 3d game benefits from virtual cores as it puts too much strain on the processors. 3d titles suffer a substantial performance hit with it on, increases heat and electrical load, plus it lowers your overclocking potential.

  8. Well, so far I've failed in even getting these to work properly but maybe someone can at least tell me if the values you enter are minutes or seconds?

I'd like a group of tanks to wait for 3 minutes at their second waypoint but they just plow on through no matter what values I enter. I set min, mid, max all to the same value and I just assumed it was in minutes. So put in "3" for each of those. Is this wrong?

  9. hehe, :) 1920x1200 is addictive, there's no turning back now.

Thanks for the tips though. In seriousness I have had very very few issues with the game since release. That's why I'm so perplexed.

I have been running in this setup 1920x1200 since the day it came out and all of sudden I'm getting all these Memory Leak ctds.

I'm an arma addict, at my high point I'd play 1920x1200 for six hours a day six days a week, maybe ctd twice a week. Now I can't even play for more then 20 minutes.

I don't know how this memory leak started. Never had to look into Nvidia tweaks or video tweaks that much, ran great.

I'm eliminating variables to figure out what it was that changed, and the only real variable I have with Arma2 is ACE.

I've already formatted and started over, but the CTDs haven't stopped. Doesn't happen with other games.

Thanks guys, I'll definitely try these adjustments.

I hate to say this, but with as careful and thorough as you've been it sounds like your card is dying. I would not recommend PNY products to my friends as I've seen too much trouble with their memory and vid cards. Check into warranty coverage on their site.

    Yes change to:

    GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1;

    GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1;

Should give you "faster" handling. Also check the NVCPL Maximum Pre Rendered Frames. Set it to different values. I found on my own system "2" is best in combination with above setting in ARMA2.CFG. If i set it to "1" in NVCPL it gets too jerky and super super light handling so its a bit too much for me personally.

Does this go for GeForce 295 GTX cards that are multi-gpu cards?

  10. Responding to several questions posted:

    1. You MUST use a Page File. Most programs have to access it at some point even if they don't require the extra RAM. This is because programmers can't count on the fact everybody has a ton of RAM. This is also why ArmA2 doesn't use all the RAM you have. Too expensive to program/compensate for such extreme ranges of hardware. If you want to limit pagefile use, change its max and min size = 1024 MB. I have 6 Gig of RAM and set my max/min to 3072 to be safe. Techncially you can keep ease it down until you start crashing again... Personally I'd start with 3072, go to 2048, then 1024, then 512, then 256, then 128, then 64 MB.

    2. Having several smaller page files isn't going to be better than one slightly larger one. As you can see the I/O is already being taxed and making your hardware scan many places isn't more efficient unless you have a wicked slow hard drive.

    3. SSD vs. more RAM? That's a tough one. From doing a boatload of research you should go with the Intel 80 Gig SSD. It has the fastest random read (sacrifices a bit of linear read speed) speed and is more durable than any other SSD drive out there. The Intel drives requires the least amount of specialized tweaking and maintenance. If you use mods, this is the way to go as long as you have SATA2. Otherwise you're better off going with RAM since at SATA1 your bottlenecking the drive. If you're using a bunch of mods, then you'd need over 6 Gig of RAM to get the full boost you'd like to see. Using full ACE2 requires nearly 3 GIG. Add a few vehciles and a good sound mod and you've just added another Gig.

    4. Sadly, I saw no difference in LOD thrashing with a RAM Drive. When your hardware is good, the LOD swaps you see are hardcoded. Sucks, I really wanted to see more detail at further distances. When running Benchmark #1 I have load trash on the pink building set and it's caused by the angle of view + distance. It's just at that perfect distance where the LOD has to switch from high to medium.

    5. USB drives. I've seen many people comment pbo's on USB drives works smoother. With USB 3.0 built into new motherboards, there may be a real performance advantage to this as it uses separate threads & drivers from your SATA source. Technically it's slower than SATA, but sometimes theory doesn't alwasy directly translate into how one computer handles stuff vs. another.

  11. "stop" is not a good command, use doStop instead. Stop disables various higher AI functions as well. Also, if you're using disableAI, remember to disableAI "TARGET" as well (or was it "AUTOTARGET"?) - otherwise they will still move to engage.

    Regards,

    Wolfrug

I should have explained better I want to do -I'd like to assign this in the mission editor. So far none of those commands have been accepted in the initialization field. Basically, I'd like to them to target and shoot everything just like normal, but I want the vehicles to not move even when engaged since they're already hull-down.

  12. Can you just view the files and scripts? Or can you actually unpack the pbo into its components and view the mission in the editor? (markers, triggers, modules and so on the map?)

Unfortunately I could not get CPBO to work with Win7 64. I'm sure it's something I'm doing wrong, but I couldn't figure it out to get the extract from windows shell option. So I went with Eliteness and it's working well.

  13. To use gear like masks, earplugs etc you do need to add your player name to the user config file as documented in the FAQ. Then, after adding goggles etc, you will see menu actions to put on masks or use earplugs.

I haven't' done this yet, but do the earplugs muffle everything, or just the tinnitus effect? If it just removes the tinnitus effect I will exuberant as I can just wear them all the time. If it muffles everything, then darn.

Also, I have like 20 pages to catch up on in this thread, but how is the latest ACE build working with the new official beta patch?
