  1. I have a C130 Hercules all lined-up (the correct way) at Chenarus's large primary airport. For some reason, at the end of the takeoff he banks sharp and then crashes into the trees. If he (AI) didn't bank after he lifts off (just went straight) he'd be fine. How can I make this work? I've even given him various types of waypoints but he seems to ignore them (or doesn't get a chance since he crashes so fast).

    Thanks! :p

  2. Why would you name the trigger, anyway they can't share the same name.

Oh, I thought if you named the trigger the same as the object name it would auto-link it - no matter where you put the trigger.

I still can't quite figure this out. Sorry, I'm very new to triggers.

Can anyone point out what I did wrong?

I have the AH-1Z with one waypoint attached. The Trigger zone surrounds the AH-1Z and these are the properties:

    SoundTest1_small.jpg

    SoundTest2_small.jpg

    SoundTest3_small.jpg

  3. vehiclename engineOn true

vehiclename engineOn false - This one makes sure the engines don't boot, add this command to the units init line.

Have a Trigger with Condition: Time > 60; (60 being the number in seconds)

    On Act: vehiclename engineOn true;

    Simplest way to achieve it.

Awesome, I'm also there but with one hiccup. I named the first AH-1Z: "Chopper1", and when I put "Chopper1" into the Trigger's name field I get the error:

    Variable Name Used!

    What am I doing wrong?

  4. Here's the deal:

I'm creating a mission to compare sound packs. So I have all the Helicopters lined up and I need them to start out "off", then they each take off at 5 minute intervals - then go on their merry way.

How do I set a wait-state that has no waypoint? I'd like to do the same thig with the kets. Lined up, "off", then one at a time rev up engines and take-off.

    Thanks! :)

  5. Here's my first non-benchmarkrelated video for ArmA2. It's only 30 seconds long, but I think captures a bit of battle intensity.

    Heli beach landing assault:

    t5LizO94g5U

    Used FRAPS and WMM.

Which do you like better? Any tips? Are people using fraps as the main capture source? If so, what settings? What is the preferred compression utility?

  6. Hi, folks,

Saw this yesterday and thought it might be useful for your testing (I hope so, anyways):

    Windows Sysinternals' RAMMap

    Quote from the description:

"Have you ever wondered exactly how Windows is assigning physical memory, how much file data is cached in RAM, or how much RAM is used by the kernel and device drivers? RAMMap makes answering those questions easy. RAMMap is an advanced physical memory usage analysis utility for Windows Vista and higher.

Use RAMMap to gain understanding of the way Windows manages memory, to analyze application memory usage, or to answer specific questions about how RAM is being allocated."

It's free - hope this helps!

    Thanks, that looks excellent.

  7. My apologies, I'm sure this has been asked but none of my forum-search strings brought up an answer.

I'm working on a mission and need to change what weapons the side-door gunners are equipped with. How would I do this?

    Thanks! :)

---------- Post added at 01:24 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:18 AM ----------

As an example, I'd like one of the side-door gunners to be carrying SMSAW + ammo, and another to be carrying M136 + ammo.

If the actual gunners can't carry alternate loadouts, then the extra crew would be fine.

  8. Is there way to play ArmA2 with high settings without paying 1337$ for upgrades? :/

Anyways, why does the AI make such huge FPS drop sometimes? Multiple AI units on screen at same time and FPS can easilly go to half.

I was thinking of getting new CPU this summer, but when I look at the price I need to pay in order to play a game my computer was supposed to run according to BIS System requirement specs and stuff. Most retarded thing is, I can run ArmA1 maxed out and WITH plenty of AI with small FPS drop, and its sorta fun, but I miss small things like reload while walking and headbob.

I just went through this myself and the thing that will make the game sing is a quad core processor overclocked. For every couple MHz you add is another AI the game can handle. The difference between 3.1 GHz Dual-core vs. 4.1 GHz Quad-core is mammoth. The game is a simulator that does a lot. The AI is much smarrter and more capable than in Arma1 - they're doing more, it's calculating more, so it's going to use more processing power.

  9. Instead of trying yet another hundred permutations I thought I'd ask here how you all accomplish this:

Example, a set of 3 Apaches either in Line, Column, or Vee they don't group up nice and tight. When I place them in the editor they sometimes seem to be randomly staggered and sometimes even placing them further apart. I've tried starting them in formation, not in formation, on ground, in air, making waypoint 1 have formation commands etc.

Hopefully I can do this without using a script.

  10. Why not just have the next engine be 64bit and use all the RAM you have instead of "do this, do that, copy here, move there, read post from this or that forum, somebody said try this"?

I hope BIS will come out after Arma2:OA and tell use they are moving to a 64bit engine and will kick butt with it.

Sadly that's not economically feasible. The majority of people may have 64-bit processors, but going full-on 64-bit OS is not going to be mainstream for YEARS. http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/ 70% of the market is still running 32-bit and amazingly, some odd ducks still run 16-bit. There is no standardized push like there was going from 16-bit to 32-bit OS's so people move at their own risk/leisure.

Now BIS could potentially try to drive their market to 64-bit, but it's always risky if you don't have the money to absorb instant sales losses.

  11. I have a similar question. I have a Microsoft Force Feedback steering wheel and a logitech joystick (with throttles and shit). Could I use both at the same time in Arma 2?

Now.. I wouldn't do that cause it would be kinda stupid... But could I?

I step into a car/tank... bring the steering wheel in front of me and drive away. And have the joystick on the side ready for some chopper/aircraft action.

Man that would be hell to configure I guess.

You absolutely could, but it might prove really difficult to keep all devices zero'd out while in infantry mode.

  12. Hi Jerry,

I'm new to the Arma community but love it. If you ever need someone to talk to send me a pm and I'll give you my personal e-mail. I have Cystic Fibrosis and have had legions of trouble with my lungs... in fact just got out of the hospital yesterday. Your inability to enjoy the game is probably because of your emotional and physical exhaustion. Keep your spirits up with comedies and rest. The game will become fun when you don't have to think about your own mortality so much.

    Cheers and good luck.

    -Jeff

  13. Is the download version of Operation Arrowhead compatible with retail (DVD) version of the original game? Last summer the retail version arrived really late to Finland so I would prefer to buy the download version if things look bad again.

I'd like to confirm as well. I purchased my retail copy through Best Buy, so I just want to double-check and make sure what I purchase from sprocket will work OK with the retail DVD. Thanks! :)
