NVIDIA video card(s) owners read here!
jpinard replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I hate to say this, but with as careful and thorough as you've been it sounds like your card is dying. I would not recommend PNY products to my friends as I've seen too much trouble with their memory and vid cards. Check into warranty coverage on their site. ---------- Post added at 07:31 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:29 AM ---------- Does this go for GeForce 295 GTX cards that are multi-gpu cards? -
Responding to several questions posted: 1. You MUST use a Page File. Most programs have to access it at some point even if they don't require the extra RAM. This is because programmers can't count on the fact everybody has a ton of RAM. This is also why ArmA2 doesn't use all the RAM you have. Too expensive to program/compensate for such extreme ranges of hardware. If you want to limit pagefile use, change its max and min size = 1024 MB. I have 6 Gig of RAM and set my max/min to 3072 to be safe. Techncially you can keep ease it down until you start crashing again... Personally I'd start with 3072, go to 2048, then 1024, then 512, then 256, then 128, then 64 MB. 2. Having several smaller page files isn't going to be better than one slightly larger one. As you can see the I/O is already being taxed and making your hardware scan many places isn't more efficient unless you have a wicked slow hard drive. 3. SSD vs. more RAM? That's a tough one. From doing a boatload of research you should go with the Intel 80 Gig SSD. It has the fastest random read (sacrifices a bit of linear read speed) speed and is more durable than any other SSD drive out there. The Intel drives requires the least amount of specialized tweaking and maintenance. If you use mods, this is the way to go as long as you have SATA2. Otherwise you're better off going with RAM since at SATA1 your bottlenecking the drive. If you're using a bunch of mods, then you'd need over 6 Gig of RAM to get the full boost you'd like to see. Using full ACE2 requires nearly 3 GIG. Add a few vehciles and a good sound mod and you've just added another Gig. 4. Sadly, I saw no difference in LOD thrashing with a RAM Drive. When your hardware is good, the LOD swaps you see are hardcoded. Sucks, I really wanted to see more detail at further distances. When running Benchmark #1 I have load trash on the pink building set and it's caused by the angle of view + distance. It's just at that perfect distance where the LOD has to switch from high to medium. 5. USB drives. I've seen many people comment pbo's on USB drives works smoother. With USB 3.0 built into new motherboards, there may be a real performance advantage to this as it uses separate threads & drivers from your SATA source. Technically it's slower than SATA, but sometimes theory doesn't alwasy directly translate into how one computer handles stuff vs. another.

jpinard replied to jpinard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
I should have explained better I want to do -I'd like to assign this in the mission editor. So far none of those commands have been accepted in the initialization field. Basically, I'd like to them to target and shoot everything just like normal, but I want the vehicles to not move even when engaged since they're already hull-down. -
A way to open someone elses .pbo mission in editor?
jpinard replied to jpinard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
Unfortunately I could not get CPBO to work with Win7 64. I'm sure it's something I'm doing wrong, but I couldn't figure it out to get the extract from windows shell option. So I went with Eliteness and it's working well. -

Oktane, you are so dang awesome. I am so glad I get to use PP again -
I'd like to comment on the SLX dismemberment as the current system is fantastic and done very tastefully - (for blowing someone apart). I can't figure out why some people want it worked on more since it's wonderful is.

Advanced Combat Environment (A.C.E.) 2 - v1.0 stable
jpinard replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Wow, and it kills the Tinnitus effect? Cool! Can I ask (how can I hatch those things in pre-existing games (after I've modded my name properly in the cfg file)? I'm running a scan right now and can't load up the game (have to wait another stinkin' hour) -
Advanced Combat Environment (A.C.E.) 2 - v1.0 stable
jpinard replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I haven't' done this yet, but do the earplugs muffle everything, or just the tinnitus effect? If it just removes the tinnitus effect I will exuberant as I can just wear them all the time. If it muffles everything, then darn. Also, I have like 20 pages to catch up on in this thread, but how is the latest ACE build working with the new official beta patch? -
Mando Missile ArmA for ArmA 2
jpinard replied to mandoble's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Would we be better off going back to Ace2 stable you think? I don't know how I can revert, but I'm not giving up Mando Missiles. -
Patch 69645 - changes under the hood
jpinard replied to suma's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
Suma - Just wanted to mention how awesome you guys are. Thanks so much for an amazing game. :) -
These are several options under ArmA2. So far it looks like each game uses the exact same profile, or am I not reading it correctly?

A way to open someone elses .pbo mission in editor?
jpinard replied to jpinard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
Oh wow! I didn't think it'd be possible to edit someone else's mission that was alreayd made into a .pbo. This is great, thanks! -
oktNoBlur - Signed Blur Remover Addon
jpinard replied to oktane's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
oktane, which do you personally prefer - bloom on or off? And I cannot thank you enough for making this. I'm about to go test it right now. Will this still work with the beta patch BI just released today? -
Patch 69645 - changes under the hood
jpinard replied to suma's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
Can I ask why you would need to do a fresh install? Doesn't the beta patch just over-write previous files? -
I hope someone can help me. When I go to move around with my mouse, the view/gun whips around like mad (when in fps mode). I'd read somewhere on this forum that TrackIR is supposed to only move your head (and leaning), not affect anything else - but right now for me that's not the case. Also, I can't left click to place anything in the editor. I'm really new to this so I'm sure it's some kind of setup thing. Thanks.

User Add-On Guide for more Realism and Immersion (ACE2-based)
jpinard replied to the.d's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
The.D. - I've been offline for quite some time as I've had to tear my computer apart multiple times. I'll still wrtie up my island report after I get ArmA2 back in shape. -
I can't find Dslyexcis' TrackIR profile for ArmA2. Can someone point me to it? I've looked all over his site. Thanks! :bounce3:

Advanced Combat Environment (A.C.E.) 2 - v1.0 stable
jpinard replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Ok I got a video of the problem. In this mission I could get in and out of the BDRM just fine, but the BMP-3 when I'd hop in as gunner (see video and make sure to watch hi-def so you can see the print) the tank spits me right back out. -

Still no full game manual (NOT editing manual)?

Thank you. Does that come in PDF format? I'd really like to print it out for reading in bed. -
Still no full game manual (NOT editing manual)?
jpinard replied to ladlon's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Especially when it comes to command and control, the game's so-called manual is horrendous. Is there another .PDF out there that explains the following in much more detail? * Communication * Taking Command * Quick Command * Complex Commands * Teams * High Command They crammed all that into 5 "tiny format" pages and the lack of help is a little ridiculous. I've done the tutorials, but there's so much missing I hope there's a guide out there I can print, then sit down with for good late-night reading. Thanks! :bounce3: -
Advanced Combat Environment (A.C.E.) 2 - v1.0 stable
jpinard replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Single Player. I will try and replicate the issue for further clarity. There was a higher ranking officer in the background that I use as a back-up in case I got killed. -
Advanced Combat Environment (A.C.E.) 2 - v1.0 stable
jpinard replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I couldn't find this after searching. I've had an issue lately when I'm testing out different armored units. I create ~20 different types of units as "Empty" and then I want to get in each, drive around & shoot, then try out a different one. For some of them, I get in and it immediately kicks me back out. Get back in, then it kicks me out. Once I tried driving ASAP and as soon as I released it kicked me out. it does this for some vehicles but not all. Thanks for the help. -

Gigan's Mobile Missle Launcher "SCUD"
jpinard replied to Drew's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I'm getting some errors when trying to use this. Basically I just put the pbo's in its own mod directory and I'm getting file not found, script not found etc. Am I supposed to put .sqf & .sqm files somewhere?
