Chopper, don't start engines for 5 minutes - then go!
jpinard replied to jpinard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
If you want to give up on me I'd understand. I made that change and chopper1 still starts his engines immidiately upon start. Everything is still the same. -

jpinard replied to jpinard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
I created a youtube video as it's still not working correctly. If the first waypoint (the hold) is right next to chopper1 it never boots its engine, if the waypoint is further away like in the video, then chopper1 boots its engines immidiately (despite the engineoff for 60 seconds command). What do I have wrong? You'll have to watch in Hi-Def Full-screen to see the text: qL-mAX_-AkA&hd=1 -

C130 Crash on takeoff in Chenarus
jpinard posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
I have a C130 Hercules all lined-up (the correct way) at Chenarus's large primary airport. For some reason, at the end of the takeoff he banks sharp and then crashes into the trees. If he (AI) didn't bank after he lifts off (just went straight) he'd be fine. How can I make this work? I've even given him various types of waypoints but he seems to ignore them (or doesn't get a chance since he crashes so fast). Thanks! :p -
New Beta Build 70709 is up!
jpinard replied to WillaCHilla's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
For those of your with FRAPS problems, use a version that does not have the 30 second cache. I'd suggest trying versions 3.1.2, then 3.1.1, then 3.1.0 I've got a monster rig and though I do not have the exact issue like you're mentioning, I have seen a drop in performance with same game version vs. differing FRAP revisions. Remember BI doens't have an obligation to testing anything but ArmA itself... but the Arma videos sure help sell the game. Also... FRAPS isn't perfect. The developer often has to make specific changes to make it work properly with some games (ex. STALKER). -
First I hope I'm putting this in the right sub-forum. If I didn't please accept my apologies. * I'm thinking of looking for a good deal on a second NVidia geForce GTX 295 since it seems a lot of people with them are selling them to move to the 400 series cards. * I've never run SLI before and am pretty scared I might be wasting my money if it doens't do what I expect. That being said, in ArmA2 the second card would basically make it so I can max out FSAA and Anisotropic Filtering making my cpu the only bottleneck in the game... right? Maxing out graphic settings and running a super high resolution would be worth it for me, but if it won't let me do this, then it wouldn't. * Can I use two cards from different companies? I have an eVGA card...could I use a BFG or PNY card that's a GTX 295? Or do they have to both be from eVGA and be the exact same model? Thanks to anyone who pops in to discuss.

Chopper, don't start engines for 5 minutes - then go!

I thought you might ask that, so I did that before my last post and it didn't work, but maybe I missed a letter somewhere. I'll try it again. Thanks so much for all your help! Do I still need to have the trigger around if the waypoint command has the information? Or maybe the waypoint needs a different type assignement? We're so close!!! -
Here's what I think the cover should be. Took me aboue 17 days to make this. See its got action, you see the joy and horror in their faces, I've got the new top-sceret camoflage going. You can almost "hear" the battle... pew pew pew pew!!!! Sorry if it's a little too graphic for some.

Hehe, yea I can't believe he didn't get sawed in half. I wondered if anyone would laugh at that :D I'm still trying to figure out how to get door gunners to carry alternate weapons besides MP5's. So for this little battle the entire Helicopter assault team has the worst weapon possible (MP5) for wide open warfare against multiple platoons of entrenched Russian soldiers. Not sure if anyone saw my question above so will parse if it's OK. * Are most of you capturing video with FRAPS? * If so what are your settings here: http://www.jeffpinard.com/FrapsMM.jpg * What do most people use to compress the video? Windows Movie Maker, VirtualDub, DivX? Thanks! :)

Chopper, don't start engines for 5 minutes - then go!
jpinard replied to jpinard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Ahhh, I see. When I have the waypoint assigned it doesn't work, but when I deleted the waypoint it worked perfectly. Is there a way I can do this so after 60 seconds of engine off, he takes off and flies to a waypoint? -

Oh, I thought if you named the trigger the same as the object name it would auto-link it - no matter where you put the trigger. ---------- Post added at 10:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:17 PM ---------- I still can't quite figure this out. Sorry, I'm very new to triggers. Can anyone point out what I did wrong? I have the AH-1Z with one waypoint attached. The Trigger zone surrounds the AH-1Z and these are the properties: -

jpinard replied to jpinard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Awesome, I'm also there but with one hiccup. I named the first AH-1Z: "Chopper1", and when I put "Chopper1" into the Trigger's name field I get the error: What am I doing wrong? -
Here's my first non-benchmarkrelated video for ArmA2. It's only 30 seconds long, but I think captures a bit of battle intensity. Heli beach landing assault: 9hNuBB_j3zc t5LizO94g5U Used FRAPS and WMM. Which do you like better? Any tips? Are people using fraps as the main capture source? If so, what settings? What is the preferred compression utility?

I'm confused. Is the game due May 30th or June 30th? I thought it was June 30th, but if it's due this month - yeehaa! -
Thanks, that looks excellent.

Change soldier loadout on UH-1Y?
jpinard posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
My apologies, I'm sure this has been asked but none of my forum-search strings brought up an answer. I'm working on a mission and need to change what weapons the side-door gunners are equipped with. How would I do this? Thanks! :) ---------- Post added at 01:24 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:18 AM ---------- As an example, I'd like one of the side-door gunners to be carrying SMSAW + ammo, and another to be carrying M136 + ammo. If the actual gunners can't carry alternate loadouts, then the extra crew would be fine. -
I just went through this myself and the thing that will make the game sing is a quad core processor overclocked. For every couple MHz you add is another AI the game can handle. The difference between 3.1 GHz Dual-core vs. 4.1 GHz Quad-core is mammoth. The game is a simulator that does a lot. The AI is much smarrter and more capable than in Arma1 - they're doing more, it's calculating more, so it's going to use more processing power.

Create your own delimited config list to arma.rpt
jpinard replied to CarlGustaffa's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Wow, this could really help me. So the information exported to csv can be used for addweapon, removeweapon, and addmag options per current mods being used? -

Making/sustaining a nice tight Helicopter formation
jpinard posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Instead of trying yet another hundred permutations I thought I'd ask here how you all accomplish this: Example, a set of 3 Apaches either in Line, Column, or Vee they don't group up nice and tight. When I place them in the editor they sometimes seem to be randomly staggered and sometimes even placing them further apart. I've tried starting them in formation, not in formation, on ground, in air, making waypoint 1 have formation commands etc. Hopefully I can do this without using a script. -
Making/sustaining a nice tight Helicopter formation
jpinard replied to jpinard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
I forgot to mention something very important about why I need this. I'm creating a Fraps-based benchmark test that is ~ 70% graphics load vs. 30% CPU load on a 4 Gig Quad-core. So with all the beta-changes going on people can get a very accurate read on fps that isn't as canned as other tests. -
Defend this building at all costs

If I place an ehntire squad of infantry inside a building, is there a script command I can add to the initialization field to make them stay and defend that structure to the death? -
Defend this building at all costs
jpinard replied to jpinard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Thanks, you've given me some great ideas. The reason why I didn't want to use the disablemove command is I want them to be able to take up defensive positions within the structre, and not just stay put to be slaughtered ex. inside an aircraft hangar or the air-traffic control tower. -
Sadly that's not economically feasible. The majority of people may have 64-bit processors, but going full-on 64-bit OS is not going to be mainstream for YEARS. http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/ 70% of the market is still running 32-bit and amazingly, some odd ducks still run 16-bit. There is no standardized push like there was going from 16-bit to 32-bit OS's so people move at their own risk/leisure. Now BIS could potentially try to drive their market to 64-bit, but it's always risky if you don't have the money to absorb instant sales losses.
