  1. You have a better setup than i Mrleagend, and i run with a 4600 view 1680x1050 most stuff veryhigh and with some aa on, if i look hard when running i do see grass grow but i have to be looking for it, when i run and zoom at the same time its more in my face and its very noticeable.

    q9400

    4gig 800mhz

    285gtx

Yeah I watched 1000's of vids on and it seems to happen to everyone at some extent.

I read the whole (almost) ramdisk vs SSD thread and it looks like RAMdisk is the only way to completely eliminate it...but I've never seen anyone with it as severe as me. It's not severe I swear I only notice it when I'm running for minutes.

I have the veiw distance set to 6km could that be it? I suppose I could just try it but I'm at work now:j:

  2. Great game after all this time huh Fatty?!!;)

Well thanks to the fellas here I've been up and running for a couple of months. I had to rma my graphics card but I'm back up and running good.

    I have a question

I play the game on all high settings...yet it seems that foilage seems to grow right in front of me when I'm running...it obviously is not stopping me from playing this crack disguised as a game, but I just wanted to check with you guys to see if anything is wrong...this is my first build and I think I got it right.

    Intel i7-950 Core 3.06Ghz

    6GB OCZ Tri-Channel DDR3 Memory

80GB Intel X25 Internal SSD<----Windows and Arma 2 are stored here

Creative Blaster X-Fi Titanium Sound Card

    everything is stock

  3. I'm on the Manhattan base level, and after hours and hours of driving around I cannot find the arms dealer.

Its about 8pm and I think I found his truck in Krastonov(sp). But he is no where to be found.

Perhaps because it is night time and he is sleep (or so I'd like to think).

My question is; is there anyway to sleep, or fast forward time back to the day so I can catch him making his rounds?

I know you can speed time up, but that just seems to turn one minute into a half of minute.

I think I have killed all insurgents in the area and the fact that there is nothing to do but sit in the game and wait 3 actual hours until I can finish the level seems kinda crazy.

    thanks

  4. I point to the chopper and press the space bar to tell everyone to get in

Then I go to the map and press 0 the 8

I think it says something like transport active...then click on the map; it will say drop off and you'll be off

  5. yeah there are some real wack jobs out there that would down play this game just to to make others acceptable.

I'll tell ya..there was this stupid guy on the gamefaqs boards who proceeded to tell us that operation flashpoint was better than arma 2...he would say things like the AI driving was worse... I hoped in the back of the humvee and enjoyed the scenary as the AI drove me halfway across the map no problems...something that was impossible on the debacle called OPDR

I finally get arma 2 and the game is 10x'x better than I had imagined it. I mean if you look at the OFP box...you would think that Arma 2 was the game you were getting...

I don't know what drives these fanny boys:j:

  6. There is a major supply problem with the 5970 due to low yields etc.

Even the big chains are only getting a few here and a few there.

2 x 5870 is actually faster than a stock clocked 5970 although you can OC the 5970 as they are made with the highest binned GPUs.

    Thank you

Tell me about it, there is a severe demand and a measly supply. The manufacturers are shipping 5 units per week. I just scored one, and they said that they had 150 and were down to 2 by noon.

I thought about 2x 5870's but I'm thinking future proof here, I assume that Arma 3 will need 2x 5970's though. or probably 3 with the all new Tri-fire gpu config we haven't heard about yet lol

I've looked at many benchmarks and we're talking no more than 5 fps difference. I can live with that given the potential

  7. I'm having trouble scoring the an HD 5970 Graphics adapter, anybody know of in any reputable online shops? As of right now I have them all on notifying me but I've already got swindled by a company that took my money and then put the thing on back order. I had to wrestle my cash back from them...while missing out on other opportunities.

Appreciate the help guys I'm on my way...slowly

  8. You're not going to notice the difference between a 950 and and a 930. I'm not a big fan of overclocking software, it's better to do it in the bios so you have more control over what you're doing.

Also a single 5870 is not that much slower then a 5970, the 5970 uses crossfire (2 gpu's, 5870's on a slower speed) to get more frames and scaling is almost never near 100%. A single gpu is a more elegant solution imo, If you want more performance you can always put another 5870 in when prices go down and crossfire it yourself.

    thanks

I was forward thinking with the 5970...I figured when the pricing drops I'll crossfire that. Plus they say it's severely underclocked (750Mhz), and it's capable of 1000Mhz/15000Mhz...

Overclocking sounds like something I will have to do, but right now I just want to get off the ground with this thing.

right now the hardest part I'm dealing with is scoring ANY HD 5970... I found a store in canada but they don't ship to America:j:

  9. If you want to spend even more money you could get another 6 GB ram and run the game from a ramdisk.

I dont really see the point of an i7-950, it's twice as expensive as an i7-930 and not even 10% faster. If you want processor performance I suggest you look into overclocking an i7-930.

Thanks for the advice, but I'm not overclocking anything for a while. I was hoping I can get a decent framerate on very high settings with this.

The Dxd8so comes with optimizing software to do some lite overclocking I guess. I'm brand spanking noob to this, slow and easy she goes

  10. Okay I'm trying to make a decision on graphic card

I was initially going to get a ATI 5870

then I saw they have just released the 5970

BUT I just saw a 5970 arma 2 video on youtube that says basically arma 2 does not support xfire

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6lXzfa990M

I researched and found that a lot of last summer threads were talking about the same thing

THEN I figured I would just get the 5870, and if I wasn't satified I would just get another one... BUT I just saw another youtube video with 2x 5870's and the fps was like 29...WTF

Have they patched this or is it just not worth it...let me know because it's a $300 difference.

    Thanks in advance

  11. Good to see you take my advice. Arma 2 won't even touch 10 of those gigs of ram you have. And other than that you are spending way too much all around for a game that can only run so well anyway. $700 is the absolute most you should have to spend to get high settings. You can only go up to a certain point until you are limited by your HD.

Well Arma 2 is the only game for miles around that comes even romotely close to what I want. With the announcement of invisibility cloaking in the new ghost recon...that was the last straw with console gaming for me..so may as well bite the bullet.

Question: Is 7200 RPMs fast enough to stream this 8Gb of of Chernarus? If not what is

    Thank You

  12. Hey guys, I was looking at purchasing this in hopes that I can run Arma II in high settings. I would appreciate knowing if this will be possible and/or I need to change or upgrade some things.

    Dell Studio XPS 9000:

    Intel® Core™ i7-960 processor(8MB L3 Cache, 3.2GHz)

    Windows® 7 Professional, 64bit,

    12GB Tri-Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1066MHz - 6 DIMMs

1TB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive

    ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB GDDR5

    Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio

  13. I hope this game does eventually make it to console...

Adult shooters have all gone extinct

The semi success of OFP:DR even though it was half done, should show the market that there is a desperate group of gamers that want more mature titles.

I don't know how we had more last generation that we do this generation. Before this generation Ghost recon and rainbow six were the most dominant titles...staying on lives' top ten for years..then we cross over to this gen and Ubisofts top concern is raving rabbids for the wii..while up to 3 years pass before they even consider revamping their money makers

Not saying GR & RB6 are genuine military simulations, but it was the closest thing.

OFP:DR basically advertised Arma 2, they couldn't deliver it. They lied & cheated their way to selling that title...but people still bought it because the genre is all but extinct...

So imagine if we get the real thing?
