Do you prefer the Advanced Flight Model?
postal vending machine replied to d3nn16's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Agreed. Currently in public servers the AFM might as well not exist. With some servers going as far as to ban it for competitive play, or to try and ensure no one crashes. -

Same problem. Supporter edition and don't have access, tried closing steam/restarting computer. I imagine the issue will be fixed soon. -

Congrats! I've had my CH Hotas & pedals since last year, very fun to use for AFM helicopters in Arma. You wont be disappointed, and it will last for years/decades. -
End Game MP Mode - Feedback
postal vending machine replied to zozo's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
Unsure if this is related to the game, mission, or my PC. But I crash 3/4 through loading when trying to load up the new mission if I use the launcher to start the game. Running Arma 3 without the launcher worked fine. -

That was one of the first things I checked, unfortunately, Altis contains no vending machines. :( I think it might have been the hospital building in that screen shot though.- 5179 replies

Low CPU utilization & Low FPS
postal vending machine replied to k3lt's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
Oh that's smart. If I'm interpreting what you're saying right, it doesn't matter if you're on a lower or higher frame-rate (game-play wise) as the game keeps pace to your FPS? So we should be able to play as well at 25 FPS as at whatever, with the downside of clunky visuals? Does it work the same way in Multiplayer? Maybe I've completely misinterpreted what you've said, in which case I'm a bit of a dreamer (and an idiot). Returning to my first question, what kind of FPS is considered "just fine" for ArmA 3? Should I just keep to my 30 FPS lock and try to get used to it? -

I'm not looking for a great 60+ frame-rate, I'm just trying to find a consistent experience that feels playable to me while keeping some stunning visuals. Here's two quotes about motion-blur masking low framerate from reputable sources I could quickly find on a google search before work. I've been told that the motion-blur I'm thinking of is called 'Per-Object' motion-blur. "Crysis is a very playable game at 25-30 frames per second, mainly due to a well-implemented use of motion blur." - Gamecritics.com "Basically, the choice comes down to whether you want to enable or disable Motion Blur using this setting, and that mostly depends upon personal taste. Bear in mind that it is a known property of motion blurring that it can help mask the perception of lower framerates." - TweakGuides.com http://www.tweakguides.com/Crysis3_11.html http://www.gamecritics.com/the-noobs-guide-to-optimizing-crysis -
Low CPU utilization & Low FPS
postal vending machine replied to k3lt's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
Hi all, I am at my wits end! My computer specs are in my signature, and I'm not sure what kind of frame-rates should I be aiming at? The high pre-set settings puts me down to a disconcerting 35-37 FPS when looking at the trees on the Southwest side of Agia Marina (Which makes me worry about bigger forests in Altis). I've tried locking my FPS to 30 with Evga Precision to get consistency in the framerate, but it felt too sluggish. I also tried disabling Anti-Aliasing however the frame-rate seemed to fluctuate too much for my liking when lots of buildings/rocks are visible. I set the game to the standard pre-set for a while, and it was pretty smooth, but I felt like I was playing ArmA 2 on dreary-old Utes rather than ArmA 3 on shiny-new Stratis. I've got no idea what to do with my settings now, or what frame-rate I should be looking for. I've heard people with similar or worse computer specs merrily express how high their frame-rates are on higher settings than I'm using. Can anyone lend me some advice here? Thanks :) Edit: In contrast; I find Crysis, APB and Planetside 2 to be smooth and enjoyable at 30 FPS, my friend suggested that it was probably because those games use specialized motion-blur to mask the bad frame-rate. If it's possible, maybe Bohemia Interactive should consider doing the same since a lot of people seem to be having performance problems? So people with lower frame-rates can enjoy the game more, rather than constantly tweaking graphics settings, or looking for computer upgrades. -

Rather impressed by the less-blurry SMAA so far, it looks and feels like x2 MSAA. Very nice! -
Is there anyway to improve AI turn rate and lower low range accuracy?
postal vending machine posted a topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Just wondering if there's any config file I could edit or script I could stick on my AIs that'd make them turn at a quicker pace when engaging hostiles, and also if there was anyway to decrease their accuracy at range while maintaining/improving accuracy in close ranges? Cheers, PVM -

Don't know what the new update did, but I've gained around 10 FPS while looking at Agia Marina from the South on Standard settings. :bounce3: Edit: BLUFOR Recon Marksman is missing his primary weapon. -

I see what you mean, but the smoothing of SMAA is quite pleasing to me close up, and slightly disguises LOD changing on infantry at long distances. Guess it's up to personal preference (opposed to ArmA 2's FXAA vs SMAA where SMAA was straight-up superior). -

Excellent little guide! I've got a very similar rig, and my settings were set-up almost identically (Object distance was at 1100, Shadows at 100, SMAA instead of FXAA). Hopefully this will help some of the newer players to the ArmA franchise sort out their performance issues. (Although some tweaks on the developer side are still sorely needed) -

Will-my-pc-run-Arma3? What cpu/gpu to get? What settings? What system specifications?
postal vending machine replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
A GTX 650 will not play as well as a 680 (obviously), but right now it's all guess work. Recently a PC Gamer article stated they were playing maxed out with a Titan, although it did dip in performance in towns/big battles. A developer stated that if you can run at High or Very High settings in ArmA 2 at 40+ FPS you could play at one setting lower reasonably well. 'Reasonably well' is relative, for some people that's 30 FPS, for others 50 FPS. It's just guess work how well it will run until the Alpha is actually released. -

postal vending machine replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Certainly not max settings, most likely a mix of standard/high settings with a little anti-aliasing. -
Definitely! ArmA is very CPU demanding. For me overclocking my I5 2500K from 3.2GHz - 4.5GHz made a huge difference in FPS/General stability.

Skewer a dolphin with a harpoon gun. Failing that, I'll attach satchel charges to a jet (if possible) and terrorize mountain goats. -
