Much appreciated, these links work. Thanks for the help.

    Iron Front in Arma 3

First of all, thanks for the assistance. I'm using the following setup guide: https://dev.withsix.com/projects/lib-issue-tracker/wiki/IFA3_manual_install The problem I'm encountering is with the "Patch the mod" section; the guide directs me to a BI Forum page that has some links to mod update downloads, but the links themselves don't work. I've tried running the game without the patches using the batch file, but I get a lot of errors and missing assets when the game starts.

    Iron Front in Arma 3

Alright, I hope somebody can help me out here, because I've been trying to install this mod for a few hours and it's doing my head in. From what I can gather, I can either install it using PWS or manually. The problem is, PWS won't let me register because of some HTTP 500 error and a few of the manual files seem to be missing so I can't patch the mod. At the risk of sounding like I have absolutely no experience with Arma mods whatsoever, what's the preferred method of installing this mod? Should I just wait and see if the PWS servers sort themselves out?

    New terrain reveal - Tanoa

Which presents a perfect opportunity to implement some strategic airlift aircraft. On the other hand, I suspect that the transport of vehicles across the archipelago will encompass (at best) an LCAC-type hovercraft if they can achieve a satisfactory implementation of vehicle-in-vehicle transport. Not that there's anything wrong with amphibious APCs, of course.

    New terrain reveal - Tanoa

With advanced and groundbreaking "become a technological demigod" and "create your own cargo cult" mechanics! Slightly less off-topic and just as unlikely to ever occur, if BIS want to improve the naval and island-hopping gameplay of the expansion, what we really need is one of these:

    E3 (June 16-19)

I stopped being surprised about MS's lack of initiative after the third(?) or so time they promised to renew their focus on PC gaming. Kind of a shame; some of my best memories of co-op multiplayer were from Halo. Anyway, at least there's still Deus Ex et al to look forward to.

I can't wait to see what Microsoft tries to sell at the PC Gaming Show. Hopefully more than a "now you can play Xbox via the PC!" type deal.

    New terrain reveal - Tanoa

Jungle warfare might be pretty hard to nail, though. Here's hoping BIS can nail the sensation of getting genuine trench foot and having jungle parasites crawl up everyone's bodily orifices. On a serious note, could the improved jungle assets mean good news for other jungle maps?

    Next DLC and Expansion Speculation

That was the joke in the original. One of the guy's sidekicks actually recommends requesting more money. That's what I referenced.

    Next DLC and Expansion Speculation

That's not exactly a lot of money in 2035 (excepting some serious financial problems or revaluations in the following two decades).

The lack of pre-reveal ARGs disappoints me. Used to be we had to work hard for information before an official reveal came up. Obviously this is another symptom of BIS dumbing the Arma series down for the unwashed masses.

If BIS' motivation for moving forward in time was to open up their creative possibilities, I don't see them basing a full game around AKs and AR-15s again, especially since it's a popular era for modders as well. Maybe an expansion pack for a future Arma game could provide the Cold War throwback at some point, but I don't think it's probable in the near future. I'll let BIS surprise me. With a sidescroller WW1 Arma 4.

Eh, it'll have to do. Now for the railgun tank... I saw a mod around here somewhere. EDIT: Found it.

    A quantum leap - Arma 4

That's because a good developer would also make stunning advances in the fields of affordable GPU and CPU technology, not to mention data compression methods. Of course, I don't think BIS is capable of doing something that simple.

Well, the US and British militaries do (or did) use Silly String to detect tripwires, so it wouldn't be the most incongruent thing to hear in a combat situation.

Hey, maybe they'll improve urban areas and add kung fu mechanics. Everybody loves kung fu mechanics.

Arma Reflecting Today's Modern Day Warfare Tomorrow

With the recent developments, I think that a well-organised irregular faction would be a great option for the Arma expansion to choose: The warfare's leaning towards, but is not completely asymmetric. Factional tactics and strategies are varied and distinct for all factions - a conventional 'good-guy' coalition force or whatever, a nebulous, decentralised yet well trained and equipped 'insurgent and whatnot' faction (with sympathetic government support perhaps?) and maybe some PMCs or local resistance as conventional and unconventional INDFOR factions, respectively. From what I understood, the design goal of Arma 3 was to achieve a more conventional battlezone, and I think something along the lines of my proposition will fit the template nicely. Since I never expect such opinions to get noticed 100% of the time I don't usually post them, but I kind of hope the devs read the forums. This would be an intriguing direction to see Arma take. Any thoughts?
  22. I would suggest avoiding the SC-oriented social media if you're squeamish about people spending conspicuous amounts of money. It's mostly people talking about buying ships right now. I'm hoping the FPS module will give me something palpable until I manage to bolt my X65F to the table to keep it from sliding around all the time.

    Mount & Blade: Warband

It's nice, but rough and clearly in need of some serious playtesting and balancing. The troops cost you nothing once you've hired and upgraded them, making it completely possible for a level 5 character to run an 80-man heavy cavalry force. The enlistment system isn't anything to write home about: you get a rubbish musket and 50 francs (the recruiter promises 100 and then subtracts half since you're obviously going to buy him a drink). Then you're dumped back onto the world map and treated somewhat like a regular vassal without any land. There are bandits, but they're quite sparse around the map. If you intend to play it, I suggest you don't take a musket because they're excessively inaccurate when firing (won't hit anything beyond 5-10m) and the current bayonet combat system means you're better off trying to punch the enemies thanks to the severely limited range. Siege maps have pathfinding issues with troops getting stuck on fortifications. Other than that, it has nice detail in it, but I'd wait a bit until some hotfixes come out. Also, you haven't experienced war until you've seen George III of Great Britain sprint to the enemy's ramparts and start killing Dutchmen with his sword.

    Mount & Blade: Warband

Yeah, the auto-resolve's been wonky since Mount & Blade was a thing. If you want an actual auto resolve just enter the battle scene and order everyone to charge while you go get some tea or something. As for the memory leaks, I might be in the same boat since the game only gets laggy after playing for a while.
  25. Gamesindustry.biz interview with current spokesperson Valentine Yeltyshev, who was a part of the original GSC team, has a few things to say about STALKER 2, West Games and business models. Encouragingly enough, they still have all the STALKER 2 assets: "Everything is stored! We have all the assets, materials and engine." In addition, they're devoted to making a game old-school style; that means no F2P, and no mobile release (though the next-gen engine is apparently console compatible). "At the moment, we don't need anyone [from the old team] . We have a solid team. We're fine for now, but maybe when we switch to another project we'll expand the team."
