I find myself always questioning whether or not I can go for another 'mindless fun' shooter. It's probably prudent to wait for a Premium Edition version where you get all the stuff cheaper and at once, though. Somehow the taste of Battlefield has gone stale.

CiA Petition Letter to BIS and DnA's Response
onlyrazor replied to Variable's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I also agree with every single one of the points in the community letter. However, I'm not that surprised that Arma 3's release was the way it was given the unusual setbacks (developer jailing isn't that common, is it?) and BIS' response gives me renewed confidence that they're going to develop the game to a level that satisfies people disappointed with what the game currently offers. Also, you people should really learn that BIS releases tend to be rough one way or another. Anybody remember Arma 2 1.0? -
Potential DLC Ideas and Proposals
onlyrazor replied to Alpha Whiskey Romeo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I don't know about Turkey. The Greeks (their government, at least) seemed to have a collective aneurysm at the plausibility of their peace-loving country being even involved in a war, so I'm doubting that the Turks (or more specifically, their government again) would appreciate such a prospect either. -
Upcoming tactical shooter from Blackfoot Studios: Ground Branch
onlyrazor replied to Tactical Jerky's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
Nope. Similar game in terms of gameplay and genre, but not the same. For one, unlike this unfortunate gem, it had a successful Kickstarter campaign... Still, nice to see the genre making a comeback. -
Just my opinion. If you like campaigns, that's your thing. And I like my game releases feature-packed too.
-
I second that. For all I care (and this most definitely does not reflect the opinions of everybody else) all the Arma series needs is a good, flexible engine, mission editor and mod support. Campaigns are superfluous to that. Also, since drastic engine changes obviously won't happen to a project that's practically released this may be the perfect time to put the concerns of those naysayers to rest and restructure the thing. Is that far too naively optimistic of me?

Hear, hear. "Cold War gone Hot" is a much preferable alternative to your run of the mill Modern Military Shooter.

I just noticed the fire mode selector actually changes according to the actual fire mode. Probably the first time I saw that in a game. I think I need a lie down now.

So why didn't Bohemia get the rights to use real world names for stuff?
onlyrazor replied to HighwayStar's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Arma 2 didn't actually have real names for a lot of the vehicles. You had Hand Over Offenders and Zamak trucks, but since nobody bothered to look at the brand markings, it wasn't really important. The move into a near-future setting's probably allowing them a bit more freedom with regards to nomenclature as well. -
I actually once did the Nightclub heist in a stealth run and it amused me far more than the C4 runs. Fortune had it that I got teamed up with a guy that could lockpick safes. The police never even arrived.

You forgot the part where the developers feign excitement and go "OH MY GOD LOOK AT THAT BUILDING FALL DOWN SO AWESOME WOOOOO" at every gaming conference around. DICE know their marketing. Now if only they'd know how to do something interesting too...
-
Seconded. Addictive as hell. Shaped charges speed things up quite a bit, though. Makes you notice how much of the game is just sitting about waiting for a drill to do its job.

For those of you that care, it apparently is coming out on PC. PC Gamer RPS Eurogamer

This reminds me of that James Bond movie. "Aston Martin Vanquish. We call it... the Vanish."

Silly things you've tested in Arma3 so far ;)

I once benchmarked my computer with some demolitions: this addeventhandler ["fired", {(_this select 0) addMagazine "SatchelCharge_Remote_Mag"}]; -
STALKER - CoP - Misery Mod, anyone played it?
onlyrazor replied to tortuosit's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
It's Misery 2.0, which is an improved version and is kinda making me regret not getting CoP on that sale after all. -
Wait, so German versions get full gore too? My Steam still says "Low Violence" version. If that's true, I may just have to buy it during the next sale.

Arma 3 2D editor icons troublesome
onlyrazor replied to Raklatif's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
I assume you set their status to "None" as opposed to "In Formation" because otherwise they'll never be where you place them. Or is this more related to how their placement translates into the actual game? -
Try asking in this thread: PC Discussion Thread II. That's what it's there for.
-
While I don't know if you can do that individually, Arma 3 has several default weapon presets for the rifles. For example, you can have vanilla MX rifle ("arifle_MX_F"), or you can have an MX with an ACOG and laser sight on it ("arifle_MX_ACOg_point_grip_F"). Just stick those classnames into the code. You can find the full list here.

PC Gamer Arma 3 hands-on: helicopter jousting, rabbiting and underwater action from the alpha

From what I can tell, they seem to think that it is indeed real. "Here coach Spetsnaz special forces from the helicopter drop of Mi-8." Close enough.

ArmA 3 Alpha classnames? (to custumize loadlout)
onlyrazor replied to carlos2912's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
You should note that there are four different suppressors currently present in the Alpha. These are: - 7.62mm "muzzle_snds_B" - 6.5mm NATO "muzzle_snds_H" - 6.5mm NATO LMG "muzzle_snds_H_MG" - 9mm "muzzle_snds_L" So, place your unit. In this example, it's a BLUFOR Rifleman. Then, in his init field, place the following: this addPrimaryWeaponItem "muzzle_snds_H" -
Training with the Editor - extra equipment and empty vehicles
onlyrazor replied to WCG's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Actually, to place objects from the empty category you first have to set the unit properties to "Non Playable", then you can access the Empty category. However, if you wish to actually play the mission, you'll have to have a playable unit anyway, so you might as well do it the way PurePassion suggested.
