GSC Gameworld, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developer, reopens for business. Working on new title.
onlyrazor replied to onlyrazor's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
I would argue that Stalker benefited from its modding community in the same way as Arma does. There are a lot of decent mods for all the Stalker games. -
I don't know, that'd be pretty... striking, I suppose? Definitely not a crucial feature, and one we're unlikely to ever see officially added, but it wouldn't be excessive in realistic doses. Perhaps it'd be better suited to a game with a more CQB-oriented scale like Insurgency, but I'd be interested if it ever appeared in Arma. On the original topic as to where all the blood went, I'm wondering that myself. I find it hard to believe it's intentional censorship, but it's possible and a dev response would go a long way toward clearing that up.

Kingdom Come: a realistic RPG by the former creators of Mafia and Arma

Well, I was making a facetious M&B reference there, but yeah, bodkins. Anyway, the game looks nice, but I'd like to see the combat system before I decide on anything. -

Pssh, great hammers are the only true way to bring down armoured opponents. On topic, I'm interested to see how alchemy works (that is to say whether each ingredient contributes some effect or if it's an all-or-nothing deal where the recipe has to be just right or it fails). Looks nice so far. -
Nothing stings quite as much as unfinished business. You'd think a place as cynical as the internet would learn to temper their expectations regarding cryptic announcements by now.

Oh man, another one of those. What is it with the recent trend of guiding the player down a single path and then going "YOU BASTARD!" when the scripted shit hits the fan? I don't mind a little guilt trip as long as I have the feeling of actual complicity in the event. I've been thinking about Spec Ops: The Line and it's the same deal. If the developer doesn't really offer you a choice in the matter, it's losing a lot of that emotional impact (for me). The choice "put down your controller and stop playing" seems similarly pointless to me since you've spent money on it, meaning you're invested. Might just be me, but the "welcome, noble player, thanks for the money now fuck off" attitude just isn't making me feel guilty for being a crazy violent psychopath that supports nuclear jingoist sexism or whatever it's stylish to oppose these days. Of course, you could argue that this is a very roundabout implementation of the Milgram experiment and that you shouldn't be blindly following orders from above (ie. the plot). I suppose it all depends on whether or not the player notices the plot strings and invisible walls.

Whoops, looks like Kmart is joining in on the fun. http://www.kotaku.com.au/2014/12/kmart-has-now-pulled-grand-theft-auto-v-in-australia/ http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-12-03-target-removes-grand-theft-auto-5-from-sale-in-australia

You people aren't thinking big enough. This is the future, and the Army has a chance to adopt a true next-generation firearm.

That's because Dishonored ripped off the Victorian aesthetic. Or maybe it just stole Thief's design. Anyway, criticising a game set in a real world location for looking like a game set somewhere inspired by said real world location isn't going to get us anywhere useful. Let's be grown men and criticise it for being a yearly release made on an exact design by committee template.

Community Upgrade Project - Weapon Pack
onlyrazor replied to .kju's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
The mod's really nice and I hope the rest of it is just as good in quality. The only problems I noted were some borked animations when firing from vehicles, but that's not really a massive problem. -
There is a M&B thread in this section that was last replied to in 2011. We could always get around to making another one and possibly having the M&B clutter moved into that section. Time to consult the moderators.

Whatever happened to the elaborate ARGs Bohemia used to do?
-
Vanilla WB single player can get stale quite quickly. I can recommend a few of the more popular mods that improve and expand the SP experience. 1257AD, Brytenwalda, Floris Extended and Prophesy of Pendor are the most often mentioned ones, of which Floris is one of my favourites - lots of items and troop types. I've probably sunk about 400 hours into it out of a 1010 hour total playtime. There are also a few mods that take place in some pretty popular fantasy locations, including Lord of the Rings and that other thing that's all the rage on HBO now, the name of which I can't ever seem to remember. Yeah, just look them up, you might find something that clicks with you.

This is sort of offtopic, but while we're on the M&B train, I'd also recommend you all to try the Vikingr MP mod. Small community, but it's pretty well made. By the way, I don't see any mentions of the Witcher 2 give away. Sign in on GOG and collect one stamp every day. 7 and it's yours.

Interesting post on Rome 2 Total Wars release/bugs/glitches/development/buying.
onlyrazor replied to 3instein's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
Late Rome's an underused setting, but I think Byzantium gets overlooked a lot by these strategy games as well. I don't know any major games besides Crusader Kings 2 (and Medieval 2?) that have post-600s Byzantium as a significant power in the game. -
Star Citizen - from the creator of Freelancer & Wing Commander

I got a joystick. I don't regret buying it, but I can't really use it because it slides around the entire desk. Time to nail it down, I suppose. -
At least they're bucking a trend. We thought the mainstream FPS game would go back to WW2. Instead it went all Space...y.

Time to bring this thread back: GTA V now has 4K support and a fully done first person view, complete with animation, HUD and gameplay modifications to suit it. Video: http://www.pcgamer.com/gta-5-pc-gets-4k-support-and-first-person-mode/

Star Citizen - from the creator of Freelancer & Wing Commander
onlyrazor replied to i76's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
The business model is one of my major putoffs regarding Star Citizen, but you can't argue its effectiveness: The money's rolling in. I'm thinking it was CIG's plan to court the big spenders all along. Honestly, I don't mind that as long as they make a good game with good modding tools. Even if the rest of the game sucks, the only thing it needs is decent infrastructure and good modding tools and something will come of it. -

I hope that deadzone's going to be adjustable. I don't mind a deadzone, but there's a point where things get too... floaty or something. -
I'm not "explaining" anything, I'm merely trying to point out that things aren't always necessarily "simple". Maybe I mis-represented my opinion somewhere or something that led to a misunderstanding. Applying the logic "they did it in that other game" is going to lead to another "but it's in VBS!" type discussion, and I'd love to keep a lid on that. And I think those quotation marks hurt my feelings.
-
I am almost certain that every Arma game to date has had a fast roping addon. Doesn't look the nicest, but it works. What I'm saying is that we can't just be certain that implementing fast ropes is in any way "easy". If it were easy, someone at BIS probably would've thought of it.
-
Yes, it is obviously easy and the developers are greedy fools for not doing it. The world's nice when everything's so simple, no?
-
In my endless wisdom, I'll reply to this post and hope it's not a troll baiting me. Yeah, I'm sure you've hit the nail on the head with that post. Bohemia's literally worse than EA and Activision combined at this rate. Are people still this upset over the lack of Arma 1/2/OA content that they're pulling the greed card?
-
I highly doubt anyone would lack the business sense to make the decision to withhold features so that a few people will decide to fork over the money for VBS. One copy of VBS is only worth ~3-8 Arma copies if I remember the pricing correctly, so I'd say that's probably not BI's goal. There are probably lots of things going on behind the scenes that could cause things to be the way they are without malice being directly involved at any point in the process.
