  1. Kind of interesting news.

MEPs sound alarm on anti-EU propaganda from Russia and Islamist terrorist groups

Propaganda pressure on the EU from Russia and Islamist terrorist groups is growing, MEPs warn in a resolution voted on Wednesday. It seeks to distort the truth, incite fear, provoke doubt and divide the EU. To counteract anti-EU campaigns, MEPs suggest reinforcing the EU’s tiny “strategic communication†task force and investing more in awareness raising, education, online and local media, investigative journalism and information literacy.

“I was given the task of describing the propaganda of both state and non-state actors. We have seen many transformations of it. As regards the Russian Federation, the situation is now clear. After its annexation of Crimea and aggression in the eastern part of Ukraine, many countries are fully aware of its disinformation and manipulation“, said rapporteur Anna Fotyga (ECR, PL). “This report, in the course of its preparation, was also a target of hostile propagandaâ€, she added.

The resolution stresses that the EU needs to counter disinformation campaigns and propaganda from countries, such as Russia, and non-state actors, like Daesh, Al-Qaeda and other violent jihadi terrorist groups.

Hostile propaganda against the EU and its member states seeks to distort the truth, provoke doubt, divide the EU and its North American partners, paralyse the decision-making process, discredit the EU institutions and incite fear and uncertainty among EU citizens, says the text.

    Russia seeks to divide

MEPs warn that the Kremlin has stepped up its propaganda against EU since annexing Crimea and waging hybrid war in the Donbass. They note that â€the Russian government is employing a wide range of tools and instruments, such as think tanks [...], multilingual TV stations (e.g. Russia Today), pseudo-news agencies and multimedia services (e.g. Sputnik) [...], social media and internet trolls, to challenge democratic values, divide Europe, gather domestic support and create the perception of failed states in the EU’s eastern neighbourhoodâ€.

The resolution stresses that the “Kremlin is funding political parties and other organisations within the EU†and deplores “Russian backing of anti-EU forces†such as extreme-right parties and populist forces.

    Daesh targets the EU

As the EU and its citizens are major targets of Daesh, MEPs call on EU member states to work more closely to protect society from its recruitment drives and enhance resilience against radicalisation. They also suggest developing a narrative to counter Daesh, “including through the empowerment and increased visibility of mainstream Muslim scholars who have the credibility to delegitimise Daesh propaganda.â€

    Information literacy

To counteract anti-EU campaigns, MEPs suggest investing in awareness raising, education, online and local media, investigative journalism and information literacy, which would empower citizens to analyse media content critically.  It is equally important to adapt communication to specific regions, including access to information in local languages, says the text.

The resolution also suggests deepening EU and NATO cooperation on strategic communication, reinforcing the EU’s 9-strong strategic communication task force and providing more support to boost media resilience in EU neighbourhood countries.

The resolution was approved by 304 votes to 179, with 208 abstentions.

  2. Logitech headsets have had many kind of problems over the years in this game. I'd guess their quality and software isn't the best. I remember some years ago that if I toggled off the virtual surround, the sounds came mostly from the other ear. Then the surround was just confusing.

Other thing that I remember that has been a problem is that the surround (not sure if it's both real and virtual) haven't been too well supported. Lot's of reports through the years that you can only hear with one ear etc. Can't say how it's now because I haven't tested it.

  3. Well, if this isn't the right timing, i don't know what is.

    video

Watch all 44 minutes and 6 seconds of it. Understand the history, and how things are today. You can realize how connected all this is to what's going on right now in Syria and elsewhere. It'll be a serous wake up call.

Umm why that's already unavailable? Or is there zone restrictions? I can't even watch any Vice videos in their page that I'm wondering what they've changed recently... Their Youtube is working except that video

  4. Just checking if it's only me that have those low quality pine trees in distance when looking thru scope/binocs. It looks like we are back to the 80's with EGA graphics :)

Can anyone check if they got the same result as me on Altis/Stratis maybe it's just me?

    /KC

The low quality trees in distance when looking through scope is likely countering the problem where trees were so detailed that even the most high end cards bottlenecked when scoping forest. Someone with low end card, the drop was quite drastic.

Just couple examples how it was before:

  5. Hello,

I've seen that when you hover on a map marker, it shows you the player name

It would be awesome to see a timestamp also, something like "unloco - 13:37" which would give you an idea about how actual the marker is

Anyway, it there a URL which submits feedback directly to Arma 3 staff?

    Thank you

    Feedback tracker https://feedback.bistudio.com/

Direct link for Arma 3 feedback ticket:

    https://feedback.bistudio.com/maniphest/task/edit/form/3/

For feature request I'd choose these things:

    Severity: "Feature"

    Category: "Feature Request"

I agreed that in-game-time-stamp would be nice to have.

  6. that the rebels used BUK before in range days to weeks to shoot multiple UKR airplanes in several km altitude is also not known to you ?

Yep. If I remember correctly, they even downed couple planes in the same day as they downed the civilian plane. Horrible thing to even allow civilian planes fly in that kind of airspace.

  7. US foreign policy:

Back or even fight along side a group that fights against the goverment. The government/dictator/whatever loses the lead. Whole country is in chaos. The backed group is now very big and likely has also other interests than the US. The backed ones start to take control and spread their extermist ideas. Claim now that the backed groups are terrorists. Rinse and repeat.

Group fighting against goverment is a rebel group as long as allied country backs it up. Everybody else are called terrorists.

  8. This! I'm on Win 7 x64 and I have a problem with Arma 3 reading controller positions whenever you go to bind a key, so in my case it sees the Saitek pedals and decides to add a Y position to every keypress I make in controls bindings. I go to disable the Saitek as a work around, but no, they will not disable! It worked for me in 1.62. All I can do is unplug it. And probably unplug the xbox controller, and the Thrustmaster flight controls, etc because they all get read when binding keys. It did NOT work that way in the past, at least with Arma 2 it would only read a controller if you moved the controls during the bind process. They need to bring that back, and of course fix the problem with disabling controllers.

Yeah this has plagued Arma 3 at least for two years or so.

  9. Interesting results, fast RAM > overclock.

Yep this was also shown in the older topic:

    armastratisramtimmings_zpsd0398bf9.png

533MHz in the RAM or 600MHz in the CPU is pretty much the same, if the timings are kept somewhat tight. (it's pretty even in this situation).

In this topic benchmark it follows the same line. 666MHz in RAM or 500MHz in the CPU, the performance is pretty much the same, if the timings are kept somewhat tight. (RAM wins marginally because of higher overclock).

  10. Titan, Titan X and the newer Titan X that's usually referred Titan XP are different cards.

Then it also depends on resolution and targeted fps. 1080p 60Hz, GTX 1070 is enough in Tanoa. I've everything on max including x8 AA and I haven't seen GPU bottleneck. The card is just in the limits sometimes. x4 AA and you can be sure GTX1070 doesn't bottleneck anywhere.

  11. Please give more altitude options and possibility to set above sea level altitude. These two are very important things and UAVs are still lacking of those options.

Then I also noticed that the camera locking feels pretty bad currently in the RC branch...

// Camera locking seems to be OK in the currently released main.

  12. Played it through with two friends with the difficulty improvements. I don't really see much of a replayability, except one or two missions. Things were pretty balanced and good fun with friends. Of course couple more missions would've been cool. Well now they're hungry for more 3-4 player coop missions/campaign :P Maybe we will play the Arma 2 campaign together next :D

  13. Anyone experiencing this kind of an issue? This wasn't even the worst, it was horrible befor when I tried to drive in the jungle and many trees didn't render nearby.

Pretty serious if you ask me. My fps was also maybe bit lower when that start to happen. I had already played couple of hours of the coop campaign with friends.

  14. I wonder why that is? Oh yeah, cause you can't generally see shit at night.. ;)

Night isn't bright or dark all the time. The brightness changes depending on time, moon brightness and position and overcast. The darkest times are just after the sun set and just before the sun rise.

Then it also depends on map config. Saying "nights are too dark" doesn't really tell anything, other than it maybe is at some point for some people. You need to give map, date, time and overcast.

Too bad that I can't video record that because my recordings are way too dark compared to what it really looks like.
