Huge FPS drops due to sounderrors 64bit
St. Jimmy replied to scrable's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
I tried to repro this stuff with my G930 with no luck. My LGS is 8.78.129 and headset says it's driver version is 8.76.152 Windows 7 here. -
Are you talking about total or just how much Arma uses? If I push the engine hard I can get the total usage around 10GB in Altis as you can see here

Ideas how to improve/clean up the action menu
St. Jimmy replied to BL4DE's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Yeah it would improve a lot if every weapon, explosive etc. actually are in your hands and you use them with fire button and so on. I'm not a fan of dragging items in a hotbar. I'd make it bit differently. 1. Primary - Press again to browse to the next ammo type. Hold and you get a menu. When you reload the ammo loads in the gun. 2. Secondary - Press again to browse to the next ammo type. Hold and you get a menu. When you reload the ammo loads in the gun. 3. Launcher - Press again to browse to the next ammo type. Hold and you get a menu. When you reload the ammo loads in the gun. 4. Grenades - Press again to browse to the next grenade type. Hold and you get a menu 5. Smoke Grenades and other possible special types like Chemlights - Press again to browse to the next type. Hold and you get a menu 6. Grenade Launcher explosives - Press again to browse to the next type. Hold and you get a menu. When you reload the ammo loads in the gun. 7. Grenade Launcher smokes/lights/etc. - Press again to browse to the next type. Hold and you get a menu. When you reload the ammo loads in the gun. 8. Mines - Press again to browse to the next type. Hold and you get a menu 9. Explosives - Press again to browse to the next type. Hold and you get a menu 0. Detonator - Different type of explosives should likely have different channels or something like that. Press again to browse to the next type. Hold and you get a menu- 11 replies

I laughed a bit when some Trump supporters said they've moved on Fox News. Like that's any better. Even though there hasn't been any terrorist attack in Sweden, it's a fine example what badly done immigration can do to a country, so there's that seed of truth.

Armachinima: your evaluation systems and votes
St. Jimmy replied to Rydygier's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I took hour or two to watch as many entries as I could. I didn't watch them fully, some seconds here and there and the beginning is already enough to see if the video gets in the top list. I've currently 15 videos in my list. I bet I missed one or two good ones because I didn't watch like 30 of them. Now I'd need to watch them fully and drop off some more. 3 votes is pretty low in that many entries. Need to give some focus in the next week. -
Hard to maintain close to 60 if I've over 1000m object view distance. I also wonder how it can be pretty bad compared to Kavala? Are the buildings so detailed even though you can't enter them? 50-55fps is likely good average if I just run alone in the streets. Can drop under 50fps depending on video settings. Kavala is much smoother.

Hopefully yes. That thing has roots in OFP? At least Arma 2 had it.

There has been history of issues with virtual surround in Arma 3. Best example was when Helicopter DLC came, Huron enter sound cracked like crazy. BIS fixed it when I pushed it that it really needs to be fixed because so many people uses virtual surround and it kind of ruins the immersion in one of the few DLC helicopter.
-
You use virtual surround or are using actual speakers? I've the same audio card but I can't test until next Monday.

NVIDIA has adaptive vsync. I use it pretty much everywhere.

To be honest I haven't actually played Arma 3 much either for months. I can launch it every now and then to test things but that's usually it. One thing is probably that now I'm rarely home in the weekend and when I'm, I usually play War Thunder tank battles, World of Warships, Total War: Warhammer, AoE 3 or racing games with friends. My Summer car has been the most recent singleplayer game I've started to enjoy a lot. This reminded me that I really need to play through couple user made campaigns. There were couple cool ones in the MANW contest that I haven't played since that competition ended.

Ah that bug. Happens very rarely and I remember seeing that like a year ago or even more. Usually I've been just alone in the editor in Altis. Very random bug. I remember it looks dark also in the map?

Man this quote system is horrible in mobile... You need to download the Arma 3 Tools. Then launch the Arma 3 Tools or find the Game Updater exe. I suggest trying both ways if there's some problem. Set-up branch, path and when you set-up your login details, you also NEED the Steam Guard key. It's either sent in your email or you get it easily in phone app. If Steam doesn't send you a new one I suggest you trigger that like login Steam in your browser. I warn you, the Game Updater downloads the whole game in the first time, so it's over 20GB download but that's the only good way to have both main and dev branch in your PC. Other option is to replace your main branch with dev branch through Steam beta tab in Arma 3 and if you want to play the main again, you need to opt out of the dev and download the main one again. Doing it once could be bit smaller download, but doing it multiple times or having it on for couple of days and Game Updater is 100% better way. Dev branch is updated daily, and the daily download can be many GBs. With Game Updater you can decide when to update, so it's safer for you that way. There's no way to have some kind of small 64-bit client only download. Oh also if you download the game through Game Updater, the game is launched where the installation folder is. Use the launcer that's there. -

Actually if you've SSD there's possibility that people set too little or no page file, because it's suggested default for SSD. At least Samsung recommended something like 400MB/2GB. -
I tried to message Dwarden if he knows what's going on.

Does this one work? https://discord.gg/0aWSevYPq5TDcIVl You might have some old link. That's taken from Arma Discord. Also there's likely just "/Arma" one available. Like: https://discord.gg/arma Not sure if that works.

xtbbmalloc - A custom memory allocator for A3
St. Jimmy replied to _blub's topic in ARMA 3 - COMMUNITY MADE UTILITIES
You run out of memory very quickly with 64-bit if you don't have page file. 16GB of RAM couldn't handle the game much more than a minute when I tested. The game either requires at least very small page file no matter how much memory you've or 32GB of RAM is a minimum for not needing page file anymore. -

Symptoms sound like the same as running without page file except just happening slower because you've some. Can you repro it if you set page file 'system managed'? What the task manager shows is far from what the game actually requires from RAM. It's good to make a feedback tracker ticket and upload the rpt and crash files there. -

Here's a ticket about crash when changing map in editor https://feedback.bistudio.com/T122186 There's also a video showing my memory usages. It's a rather long a boring video but it shows well how to get some high memory usage. Values without Arma 3: VRAM: 206MB RAM 2,9GB "Page file" 3,4GB When playing around in Arma 3: VRAM: 7,7GB RAM: 10GB "Page file" 23,8GB I call it "page file" because I'm not sure what that value actually tries to say. I didn't remember to watch from resourse monitor and task manager how much it showed Arma 3 using. From previous experience it's like 4-5GB, and the rest of the 2-3GB (10GB - 3GB = 7GB) can't really be seen. -

Yes it crashes like after a minute if you don't have it set with 16GB. 32GB could be maybe just enough not needing it? As soon as MSI afterburner showed Page file to get over 16GB I was out of memory (which happens pretty much when I open up the editor). I haven't seen it go over 32GB so that's why I'm guessing 32GB of RAM is needed to run this game without page file. I myself have page file set up on my SSD. Then for some bugs: When you change map, things are still kept in memory. I was bit in Altis and changed to Tanoa and my VRAM showed over 7GB of usage. Soon my game crashed and I assume I ran out of memory. -

If you've somewhat fresh restarted system, so you haven't done a lot, then the textures load almost instantly. Play the game for a while or shut it down, browse internet and go play back again and the textures load slower again. I observed that behavior some years ago when the fred41's malloc came. Some tech guy can likely explain the reason (it's maybe even explained somewhere in the malloc thread). -

Something with high view distance. I felt like the performance was smoother with 12/12km view distances when I was flying around in Altis, like the ground textures loaded faster, so no stuttering from that and the fps was maybe higher. Quick test on YAAB didn't show any increase, just a small decrease. So like it was said in OPREP, you should see difference with higher view distance. Disable BattlEye on launch. -

I hope you can update the look to be more like it was before. I've always hated this look since it was introduced in DayZ forums. Every forum looks like the same place. You did a good job with the last update so I trust you. Testing things Oh no not this spacing Please let the links be not as annoying to paste as in DayZ forums Dayyym https://www.google.fi/search?q=asd&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b&gfe_rd=cr&ei=1BJPWILdJ8eq8weZt6eoCw asdsadsdassdasadasdasdasdasdasdasdasdsdasdsdasdasdasdasdsadsadsdaasd I can't type after the link without it looking stupid. Let's try the quote system Lol this one broke badly :D "my quote" was the only thing supposed to be in quotes. It somehow tied with the spoilers.
