  1. Hey guys, im thinking of upgrading from my 9400GT to something better, but still using DDR2 to keep the rest of my system, any suggestions?

    System Specs:

    Windows 7 64 bit

    Intel E8600 @ 3.3ghz

    4GB DDR2

    150GB Hard disk

The 5770 is selling like hot cakes and is pretty much it for middle of the road performance. The drivers are good, the price is good $170-210 depending on the make. I have the cheapest msi R5770 overclocked at 900MHz stable. Very good card. Should be relevent for a while(I hope).

  2. Chernarus is much bigger., Has more objects on the map, and has a MUCH longer draw distance/View Distance. Has better filters( well duh, your games are console so they suck at filtering)

Not sure why you posted the T hardware link?

Just cause 2 is MUCH bigger than arma and MUCH more detailed with a view distance nearly twice arma 2's on max(just checked the demo actually and you can see beyond 15km. And the Tom's hardware link is because of the guy who said the 360 can't do AA when in fact it does do 4x fsaa almost without affecting the GPU at all. Jeez, do people even read the topic they are posting in? And yes, 16 players is pretty much standard on a p2p service like xbox uses. EA and a few other have paid for their own dedicated servers but BIS would never do that so 16 players it is. 16 player co-op is still fun.

Here let me show picture so the slower kids can understand. See how the eDRAM can transfer at 32 GB/s to the GPU? Okay good. See the other transfer speeds? Good. Maybe you learned something about how you can make lesser tech run more efficiently than higher end tech with a different overal structure than a pc uses.

Oh and good job on your incredibly weak attempt at making fun of me. Yes I have more than 16 friends.

edit - I have never even been able to join an arma online game anyway, much less find a game with more than 4 people in it.

  3. ...... they don't have a publisher that is willing to take the risk of investment to make Arma2 happen on consoles, hence my previous post.

So if you have nothing new to say.....

You almost single handedly got AVIBIRD's thread closed and clearly you are trying to do the same thing here. Just let the few console players that have heard of this game voice their desire to play it and move along.

I don't see any harm in BIS handing off their code to another CM type of company to produce a console port. It would be handled 95% outside of BIS and wouldn't affect the PC game at all.

I own the pc version and I have a pretty slick rig, however I would GLADLY pay 59.99 plus tax to play this on live with my friends, even with only 16 players, 1km view distance, a unit cap, etc, etc. For these limits aren't why DR failed. DR had so many bugs, a total lack of support and misleading statements out the wazoo pre release, the least of it's problems was the are only 64 units on screen at once.

  4. Neil do some research. You are uninformed and your post is clearly a troll post. And I've already said DR sucked because of CM, not any "console limitation". Look at just cause 2, gtatbogt, and soon to release red dead redemption to see massive free roaming worlds more detailed than armas running silky smooth on console. The only problem would be BIS' AI, again, I already said that.

Pulverizer, funny how you have nothing to do with consoles yet you post in every topic about them. Also, Arma barely sold on pc so of course it would be a niche title. If they sold copies like that "other game" that would be just over half a million copies on console. You are just plain dumb if you don't think BIS would be happy to sell a half million on console.

  5. Yes There would be compramise but don't count out that old tri-core. I know it probably won't see the light of day, I just get worked up seeing people say it's impossible. There are two things that absolutely bug the crap out of me: console players that overstate the power of the consoles and pc players that understate the power of the consoles. This is because most of the arguments are retarded like a pc guy says I have 8 gigs or ram my machine is better. Or a console guy saying my BFBC2 looks almost as good as the game on a$2000 machine. Most games don't care if you have that much ram and BFBC2 is a multiplatform port and doesn't really break any ground as far as pc graphics. So both arguments are usually just retarded.

  6. The Playstation 3 would run ArmA 2 better than the XBOX 360, however, they would both run like rubbish unless some serious compromises are made.

I'm not so sure of that. The 360 is as capable as about half of the rigs people post on this forum. Could it run hundreds of AI? No. My rig barely can. Could it run 60-80(how often do you see more than that in campaign?) probably yes.

You guys should look beyond the "stats" on the 360. It has a south bridge that handles most functions normally associated with the GPU for example you can run AA with virtually ZERO hit to performance. Also the memory, while low, is very very fast. The "world map" in arma 2 could easily run on any console. BIS would only have to rework the AI.

Edit for the dragon rising is one of the worst looking console games, bad example to trash consoles with. Look at GTA4TBoGT and just cause 2 for how impressive the aging 360 is.

  7. ladlon you were half way to getting airstrikes with your custom secop op mission. Check out this link and scroll down to using arty with secop manager headline. Follow the instructions and you can set up a radio trigger to give you an airstrike. In other words infinite air strikes with secop missions. Add an ambient combat module(with a good .sqf to adjust the parameters) and you have your custom combat mission with any units you want.

  8. Look, are there any processors out there that never let the fps dip below 30? I don't think I'll ever upgrade until the day this happens. I have a setup that can kinda sorta handle ArmA 2, so I consider it unthinkable to spend money upgrading a PC (that was purpose-built for ArmA 2) when no matter how much I spend, I will still run into stuttering.

p.s. has anyone tried one of those dual xeon setups?

If I runs the game at all low settings with a view distance under 2000 The game would probably never dip too low outside of campaign. Heck, my settings now get like 40-45fps on benchmark 1 but only 20 on benchmark 2. So it really depends on what arma is throwing at your system. See my post of Just Cause. I really think if BIS had the money they could make this game run sooooo much better on current systems. And if they had IW's/EA's budget this would be the case.

  9. If I didn't listen to my boss at work I would be fired quickly. So I can imagine ignoring a direct order in the military would be a very serious offense. The god damn corpsman should heal whoever I say when I say. If he dies then I will pay the consequences of one less gun and no doc. If he runs 20 meters away from the guy he should heal and just lays down ima throw a made at him. At the very least the corpsman should drag the body to somewhere he feels safe rather than just laying there.

  10. sounds more to me like they let their emotions take control.

Until you really think about the situation. 10 men would only have to fire about 7 rounds each which would take about 4 seconds. Usually when a news story comes out about cops shooting 40 bullets at someone there are like 15 officers involved who shot about 3-4 rounds each almost all simultaneously beacuse they all saw the same thing and could not afford to hesistate and hope their partner takes the shot.

  11. Isn't that against Geneva convention to kill wounded?

lol, yeah and clearly everyone follows the "rules" in war. I've seen plenty of videos of marines popping downed insurgents in iraq to finish them off. Sometimes it's more humane to kill a mangled body I think. And besides that wounded pile of vomit could be holding a detonating device. Better just kill them and move along.

  12. There was an attempt to bring a Game of the same genre as ArmA 2 is to consoles. Due to the limited processing power it had to be scaled down quite a bit. People weren't quite happy with it since it lacked a lot of features that it's (at least by name) predecessor already had on PC back in 2001.

So, do you think a game that already requires a high end PC to run smooth with decent graphic quality could run just fine on a console? That said, even if it would be ported, do you think it would still be the same experience as on a decent PC?

I assume you are talking about DR. That game failed by CM's hands, not the console's. They couldn't even get the most basic reload animations right like tactical reloads. CM is a poorly run company and that game had probably the most controversial and spotty development cycles of any game ever with numerous restarts and false representations to the public.

The 360 has a tri-core 3.2 GHz processor. I think it would have no problem on that end running an optimized arma. It's main problem is RAM and the video card(ati 43xx series kinda), however proper streaming(the thing has blazing memory bandwidth) can somewhat get around it. Just Cause has a view distance of like 20KM+(I forget the number buthow ever wide the map is, you can see the whole thing at all times) on the 360 and PS3, albiet with absolutely retarded AI. With a truckload of money and some extra resources BIS could get a fully functioning arma game on console. And I would bet it would look pretty good too.

  13. Hey flash thunder I agree the game could use more optimization however your system is a little old, especially GPU as already mentioned. I've seen Arma using about 70% of my CPU during normal secops scenarios(current specs in spoiler). So your processor is probably bottlenecking as well. I've found object, terrain and texture detail as well as view distance had a larger effect on fps than resolution back when I played on an AMD 3800+ and a 9400GT.
