  1. This thread is full of anti American freudian slips. I don't even think America was mentioned in that article. And if secretary of state is the same in the UK as the states its not even a publicly appointed position. No voting or campaigning what so ever. No laws were changed or broken. He simply asked people not to sell it and explained why he is offended by it. Something he has every right to do. Man, the hypocrisy from some of you guys...

  2. Pretty much what the title says. With in two seconds of using a high powered scope or binocs the screen does a sieuzure inducing strobe effect. I read another thread about this. The solution doesn't apply since I believe it was to update to CC 9.7 and that's a little out dated. I have had this problem with the last two CC versions and it's still there on my current 10.3

So far disabling crossfire is the only thing that works. This is not a good solution since I loose half my fps.

Anyone with a similar set up find a solution? I don't like updating catalyst since the last few updates seem to have not fixed this problem while creating other problems with my older games.

  3. Your an idiot. My link does not even include a video.

Just because the system got better doesn't mean it's been perfected. I have seen several AI unload their ammo into walls 3 feet in front of them. Also the talk or making smooth grass LOD transitios seems bogus to. In wooded areas the grass morphs constantly near me and further out. It's so bad on any setting I turn off grass frequently when I'm in the woods.

And don't tell me you don't constantly hear your own unit calling out enemy positions behind buildings or trees.

And no need to call anyone an idiot. Especially when you are one of 3 people who think there isn't a problem. And even more important if you call someone an idiot try not to have a typo within that statement. But if you insist please post all the articles you want. All I have to do is play for 10 minutes to see the truth.

  4. Zipper, I checked the file after closing arma and the value was still 32.

Bangtail, thanks again. The alternate pixel center(hehe, I love being american!) option isn't there anymore.

Nativedeem, is your monitor around 12 inches or more like 20? Is it widescreen or no? Either way you'll get decent results but nowhere near all very high settings. You may be able to have 1 or 2 settings on very high with the right combo of other settings.

  5. Turning off CAI disables Crossfire mate. Setting your HDR precision to 32 will likely stop the flickering with CAI/CF on :)

I had a feeling that's what was happening. It was the only tweak I could figure out to fix it though.

About the HDR precision, I changed it from 8 to 32. Saved. Double checked it was saved correctly. I boot up arma. The loading screen faintly flickers and I nearly suffer a seizure from the strobing the second the aircraft carrier appears:crazy_o: wich in all honesty was fairly common with CF in my weekend tests.

Thanks for the tip anyway. I'm sure I'll get it to work nicely someday. I can live with a single GPU and arma. It makes more of a difference in Just Cause 2 anyway.

  6. Just skimmed through some gfx card reviews. Dont know if its wrong to say that the cards from MSI 5770 HAWK or Powercolor 5770 PCS+ should be ok to play A2(+OA) on normal/high settings?

I can oc my duo core 8400 to 3.6Ghz but my gfx card 9800GTX+ 512MB seems to have some troubles with A2 texture loading. Dont want to waste money for +5fps, thought.

Any good advices for a proper graphic card with current cpu are appreciated! :)

You will see a lot of improvement by upgrading to a 5770 but don't expect the texture lag or stuttering to go away. I have two 5770s and there is still some texture lag no matter my video memory settings. Considering you can get a good 5770 for $160 it's money well spent though.

  7. here's my laptop

ati mobility hd 4650 1 gb

    4 gb ram

    2.54 ghz core 2 duo

there's a bit of mouselag in the demo

will the full game work at relatively enjoyable settings? maybe medium?

I think the demo still does not allow you to turn of PP effects as well as AF. If this is true you should see some improvement in the full game with moderate/low settings. Be sure to turn off AA, PP, AF, and set very low terrain detail/shadows as well. View distance can hurt too so keep it minimal. Campaign will probably run like doggy doo doo for you since I get some pretty decent chugs here and there.

  8. Holy mother crap. After having a good day of testing my cf 5770 I am starting to go mad. I got it to work and performance is great. I am not used to seeing the game run this smooth. But I am getting that screen flicker/strobe that after 5 seconds leads to total screen bleach out with a slow fade to normal brightness:mad:

It is more common when I zoom using scoped weapons..... and when I use a sniper it's happening almost 90% of the time:(\ and its not related to PP effects.

I swear I've read a thread or two about this and I did search but found nothing. So I figured I'd post it here while I continue to search.

FYI still on ccc 10.3 since the link to 10.4 on AMD's site doesn't work for me. AFAIK when I installed the second gpu all the current CF profiles and drivers were updated correctly and the only problem I had was the registry file I had to edit to get the CF working. At least my other games run crazy good now. Just Cause 2 is maxed and running silky smooth:yay:

EDIT - PROBLEM FIXED. I turned off catalyst AI and the flickering is gone.

  9. Thx for the reply.

    Would a 480 SLI make a huge difference compared to one 480 or a 5790 (which is a sli if im not wrong). I will use a i7 980 or a 975.

And yes, money does matter im not ritch, but if two 480's will make my arma experience alot better, and hopefully last longer in terms of upgrades and so on. :)

I think our resident multi-millionaire baller and all around pimp of the nation BangTail said his frame rate was typicaly halved when he disabled SLI with his 480s.... Or was that his 5970 cf setup.... At any rate cf and sli work with arma so if you got the money go for it.

On a side note, I came up on another 5770 during the week. Everything went pretty smooth during instal however the new GPU was idle during gaming... that is until I went into regedit and changed the default value under EnableUlps from 1 to 0. I found this fix on the AMD forums but no explanation was given for what this does, why it had to be done and what exactly this did to make my second GPU wake up. I get a little nervous any time I change a file I didn't manually place on my machine. So does this sound like a legitimate fix to the vets here?

I was able to bump 3d resolution to 150%, post processing on high and object detail is now very high and I only lost 1 or 2 fps so I am more than pleased with the results. Just curious why it wasn't as easy to get working as most people make CF to be these days.

  10. but didnt u say the 6 core got rid of the mico stutter? please elaborate on this as i had it in my head to buy the upcoming 970 based on that fact.

I'm pretty sure Bang's stuttering is reduced because of 1)very expensive RAM 2) he never runs anything less than two 5970s or two 480s and 3)his machine is overclocked to NASA compliant levels of frequency.

He would tell you himself the only real way to play completely silky smooth is a machine like his PLUS RAMdisk.

  11. Azamoto, you sound like someone who has never used the my missions templates. You can create pretty cool levels in 5 minutes with the templates. And that's only if you can't be bothered to learn the ins and outs of the editor. I live in a small town in California and I never get to play online since most games have massive pings and the one good ping will usually have 3 players. All that said this is still my most played game by far.

Oddly all the structured missions the game ships with pale in comparison to the fun I've had with my own pointless creations. And if all else fails just lookup how to put mounted machine guns on cattle and battle it out barnyard commandos style:yay:

  12. I think the only way you'll be able to do that is with a secondhand system. Look for something with a core 2 duo (or quad) an a decent gpu preferably top 5 rows here, top 8 minimum

If you build it yourself you can get my rig for around $600-700

    CPU 170

    RAM ~100

    mobo ~100

    GPU ~160

    500gb wd caviar ~50

cheap case you will have to mod and cram fans in 20-30

now if you already have a monitor, speakers and keyboard you are set and depending on shipping cost you are on budget!

Of course faster ram and a better GPU wouldn't hurt but it's a budget sstem!

  13. so has any info been announced?

---------- Post added at 08:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:32 PM ----------

according to the community wiki http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA_2

it says arma on next-gen consoles

the article was last modified march 4

placebo said there will be no announcement until there is a publisher. This means there is nothing to get excited for or hold your breath for. But for the price of 2 ps3s you can get a decent rig to play this game with the full editor and all the mods that wouldn't be in a console version.

  14. I agree with the TC. Doing random secops in the editor is infinitely more fun than the campaign levels. Tbh the campaign is not what I expected being a newbie to milsims. I thought it would be mostly chillin at the base and going on patrols when told... Pretty much like a job. Instead the game does a lot of that screen fades now your here stuff.

  15. In that case I think it makes no difference rather than fps gain, unless you did 30 benchmark runs back-to-back.

Yeah, I'm not gonna do 30:D

I just did 4 in a row rather than the 2 I did last time. Results are in.

Test 1- High shadows on benchmark 1: 38 fps

Test 2- Disabled shadows on benchmark 1: 39fps

Test 3- High shadows on benchmark 1: 38fps

Test 4- Disabled shadows on benchmark 1: 40fps

Okay so more testing reveals that my initial results were just a result of the randomness of the game that is Arma. It's still interesting to see that High shadows had a nominal effect on fps:confused:
