The thing about America's Army that was great was that there was no "hold to throw it further". You pulled and aimed it, the strength was default. You had a point of reference being the guys finger. If it was a "click and throw" thing there would need to be a point of reference. I think the strength thing is bad because it's not intuitive, it's widely variable and often you don't need strength, you need accuracy.

America's Army has the best grenade system imo, hasn't been matched to date.
-
He's also describing where an animation takes the grenade out and unpins it too so you don't just chuck it out of nowhere. +1000.

Not dissing A.C.E. here but CSM/CSE was motivated by their lack of contribution to the realistic medical aspects of the game, for example. Competition is around, seen or unseen. Where competition goes wrong for modders is when a small team tries doing better and better, becoming too broad for itself. Stick to small things, get them right - quality control, release them. Then progress. Mod competitions are a great idea imho.

Do you want/agree with tinnitus effect (like in ACE2 mod) to be in core game?

My ears hurt just thinking about it. -
Probably read too many 'energy is the primary wounding mechanism' articles. :D I hope they fix it.

Select your plate, dump it in an inventory slot. Happy days? Can't be fucked running side or back plates... I want to be free! Booty plates on the other hand... Don't want a bullseye shot, if you get what I mean.

You mean when you adjust stance to the very top one and you are kind of peeking with the rifle butt over shoulder?

I think he can delineate a shot to the face or torso as opposed to the round going over him but you're right in that he has to mention context. Was it on a server? Was it in MP? What was the server FPS? Were other scripts running at the time? What mods? People made a similar argument for me when I used to complain with the A.C.E. wounding system at longer ranges (specifically with sniper rifles). You could score hit after hit before the person went down at ranges above 1KM -- with visual confirmation and blood signature for a hit seen, even with a .50 and even with the MK211 RAUFOSS round. Sometimes it's just true, the hit detection and damage propagation systems REALLY are off at times. Other times they're great and perform fine, it's all about balance.
-
Yup and an example there Coulum if you increase the damage a grenade will do, sure it's temporary fix for that problem but it'll cause a cascade of other problems. You'll die just for being in a blast radius, it may kill players behind cover, etc, etc. It's a complex issue either way you look at it.
-
I wouldn't say a "complex medical system". I would say that an A.C.E. type of system for medics and players in the vanilla game would be a nice addition. If you really want to improve such you have to start with the hit detection system, and then how that damage is propagated. In ArmA 2 it could be propagated along the whole body mass - even for a shot to the toe. The hit detection system was clumsy, especially at longer ranges but all in all you still have to account for server strain, instant scripting and outcomes needed just to detect and do something with the hit. If they wanted to improve body armour they could improve that around it - types of rounds such as AP, API. Differentiate it into different classes, for example III would stop 9mm most times. It would take a LOT of work and effort, and probably need tweaking and tweaking and tweaking until playable.

PUNCH OUT! Maybe somewhere down the line.

Ejection seat boxing. -
^ Never say never. They already walk around like headless chickens in buildings, engaging one-shot head-shots at two meters with instant-turning actions - prone camping head-shot expertise that is. That isn't enough for you?

Just dream*

If often takes actual perception or increased nociception to realize pain. The fight or flight response, and associated hormones, can slow this down.

Combat effectiveness is not well modeled in any games I have came across. And when making unfounded arguments you have to wonder its place in this game, at all... For example 5.56 does not easily penetrate certain armours depending on what grade. Would they model CLASS III, IV onwards? Doubt it. I think a modder would if they had the capabilities (engine wise) there. Would they create different ammunition types - ball vs armour-piercing for example? Doubt it. Can you only imagine 2035 technology when it comes to personal armour? I think it needs tweaking but the only 'solutions' so far that people have agreed on in this thread is being shot INTO a ragdoll state. I think that's clumsy and a poor global 'compromise'.
