  1. does anyone know about uninstalling the beta with the .exe file that's in the package ? I heard nothing real good about it with the A2-betas, for example that it could erase some content that it shouldn't ...

So I always cleaned A2-betas manually just by deleting the complete beta-folder and installing the newer beta then ... it has always worked out with no errors, neither in vanilla nor in beta, with or without mods.

EDIT: did it manually as always and it works fine, version .71952 as expected . Savegame (OA campaign, pathfinder) works, too.

if i use the beta.exe shortcut no problems...

here the same, old shortcut works with that beta, too without probs

I just can't see any of my mods that are stored in \Arma 2\-Dir in the ingame modlauncher ... but I heard of that before

anyways, in Vanilla I get them all for managing ingame and betas should be tested without mods, indeed ;-)

EDIT: ... and here's a workaround for the prob that mods dont appear in modlauncher with betas (thx Cyborg)

  2. haha ! having started OA since my last friday's complete installation including 1.52 and 1st beta all the time with DVD inside ... and today evening having wondered why it loads up so fast and now I remember there was no on-screen-dvd sign during startup ... hmmm ... walking to my book/DVD-shelf and ... what shall I say ? ... OA-DVD's in its box, just "forgot" to put inside but ... it works anyway "now".

hey, I know from OpF and ArmA2 that since some patches there was no disc needed anymore for startup but this time that great feature comes fast, BIS, thx.

*coughing:o* has OA-DVD EVER been needed for startup (except for installing) ?

EDIT: checked startup with different versions -> with beta 71900 no disc needed anymore for startup :-)

  3. after doing this and that in setup, patching and stuff having just played first misson ... and ... big surprise ! compared to my A2-Experience related to FPS OA gives me more ... now I get very acceptable values of > 40, ok some drops here and there but altogether the OA-Expansion is running much better on my rig than A2 does (FPS < 30 on Chernarus, Utes had always a good flow for me with > 40, too) ... even Viewing Distance can be raised up to 4000 and it doesn't impact performance noticeable. That's worth a big :bounce3: !

Top atmosphere in Takistan, ambient seems very realistic, you can almost feel the heat out there.

  4. Can anyone tell me if the german version of OA can be language switched as to be compatible with an english version of ARMA2?

I've installed the german version (DVD/Morphicon, Ver 1.52) into A2-Folder (guess same as you want it to): you can choose via "main menu" -> "Optionen" -> "Spieloptionen" between German and English language any time you want to - back and forth - all the game needs is a restart after having done the language switch in order to submit the changes ...

Me I like german text in menu and I mostly play without subtitles (don't like text on the screen while playing) ... when I got something wrong by listening or didn't get the point of an ingame conversation for whatever reason I go inside "Gesprächslog" and read what I missed ;)

Anyway, I don't think that A2/German mixed with OA/English should make any troubles ...

  5. thx for help - ok, I see ...

    have found the entry "shadingQuality=[n];"

it was on 3 with default setup (first startup of the game yesterday), now I've changed ingame AA from normal to high, aiming deadzone to max (effecting shaders at all ?), head bob from "max" to "very low", meaning 1st step in the slider (effecting shaders at all ?) and made 3d-res=100% (was 88% on default) and now it's 10 - so shading-quality-value seems to vary with changing the various menue graphic settings ingame "automatically" and the value set by the game engine itself seems to be the result of the setting's mix - so that's why there's just no option for that needed anymore, I guess.

  6. reading the OA manual's section of ingame graphic settings (german version) I found this, but I don't find this option ingame at all:

"Shading detail (Shader-detail) – beeinträchtigt alle besonderen, im Spiel verwendeten Shader-techniken."

my (non-professional ;)) translation for this:

"Shader-detail - reduces function of all special and technical shadings ingame"

... this note appears also in the Arma2 manual, but I don't get this option anywhere in the menue, not in ArmA2 and not in OA ("Comb Op."). Has this been an option that once had been there (maybe in Armed Assault "Part One" -which I don't own-or in A2 Ver. 1.0 and has just been forgotten to be deleted out of the manual's content ?

    btw: is/was this shading-option equivalent to the config-entry of "HDRPrecision=[0,8,16,32]" ?

  7. no matter how good your PC is, it's no guarantee the game will run well. It's all luck :/

yep, so for my older rig I know of course that cpu is the (most tiny) bottleneck ... but buying a newer, faster, better one could be the same as throwing the dice, I suppose.

just having installed OA, and I'll do test the new OA beta, too ... so I'll see what good is my rig with the game, now

  8. Google "Killerwatt".

great: "mind your head"-text between the caves ;)

ok, back to topic (but this short trip into past had to be ;)@Killerwatt)

OA first look is bombastic and very atmospheric ... ! love @ 1st sight

question: I'v merged A2 & OA right now - is there a comfortable/efficient way to port the existing customized A2-key-bindings into OA-setup ?

I mean: will copying/pasting the key-bindings-part from [name].ArmA2Profile over [name].ArmA2OAProfile work ? are there new bindings in OA that don't exist in A2 ?

EDIT, ok, there ARE differences in key-bindings ... hmmm, think I'll do it ingame

EDIT: for the ones of you that have a similar question: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=101248

  9. Today I've got my travel order and I'm ready to move to Takistan, tomorrow evening ;)

So I'm really looking forward putting OA retail into my rig's dvd, after having heard so much good stuff about it from you guys who already enjoy playing it.

Just 2 little things that I wanna be sure of before installing tomorrow:

    1) Until now I'm playing A2 (retail) @XP 32. It's installed on my 2nd hdd (E:\). My intention is to merge OA with A2 so I just wanna start playing all with "ArmAOA.exe" in the future. The right way for that is to select (when prompted during OA-Inst.) same folder as A2 is located (in my case E:\...\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\), right ?

    2) My profiles (I don't use command line param "-profiles ...") are located @"c:\Documents and Settings\[my name]\..." (= default) ... so will this be the default place for the OA-profiles, too ?

Until tomorrow evening I'll go watching some videos provided by some of you

  10. I own A2 german (text, subs etc german / audio speech native language) and wonder if installing OA english will cause some problems concerning the migrating content of A2 into OA, escpecially chaos in texts, menu gui, etc. ?

or aren't any problems to be expected in this case (A2 german + OA english), so for example OA english will force all content of text & subtitles to be english, even if I start A2 content ?

... just if some clairvoyant is around ;-)

  11. I've tested 10.6whql for vista 32 and for xp 32.

Assuming that ati's support for xp (and/or for the 4xxx-card-series ?) will run out I can see the consequences of that:

performance @vista 32 is stable - not better, not worse with new 10.x-drivers but @ XP 32 I measure (via Arma FPS analyser by sbsmac) significant losses in perfomance with the drivers 10.5 and 10.6.

    summary:

my 4870 @10.5/10.6 compared to 10.4 or previous, Vista 32: stable, same perf

my 4870 @10.5/10.6 compared to 10.4 or previous, XP 32: performance losses

ergo: atm on my vista runs 10.6whql, on my xp runs 10.4whql

anyone same/other experiences so far ?

note: haven't installed ccc, i'm doing all tweaks with ATI Tray Tool

  12. friday's supposed to be the weekly scheduled day for an ace-update

if there's something in the world that you can rely on, it's ace is being updated on fridays :)

six-updater-suite is running stable and updating is easy (thx @ace-team for helping out for this and that, of course), can't think of updating any other way - official BIS-beta-builds are available just in time, too - it's kind of a all-in-one-tool.

thanks to all of you @ace-team, really great job you're doing
