    Bravo to the lockdown sceptics

who were smeared and dismissed for daring to defend freedom

...senior members of government during that whole lockdown business has finally admitted that the strategy was overdone, badly handled and badly communicated.

The brave few kept the flag of personal freedom alive. That really is no exaggeration. And they paid heavily for it. On social media the abuse was intense. You don’t care about lives! they snarled. You’re murderers! they claimed. And in the mainstream, things weren’t much better. You’re a “small, disproportionately influential faction,” moaned a Guardian Leader, that “denies the virulence of the virus”.

    Thanks for that.

...He now tells us it was wrong to empower scientists to such a degree; wrong to allow Sage such sway over policy; wrong not to consider the long-term impact of lockdown on people’s health and wellbeing; wrong not to discuss the inevitable huge delays to cancer, heart disease and diabetes diagnoses; wrong to close schools; and wrong to instill such fear.

For all these lockdown victims, Sunak’s words come two years too late.

Little by little the truth of lockdown is being admitted: it was a disaster

Lockdown was an extreme and unprecedented response to an ancient problem, the challenge of epidemic disease. It was also something else. It marked one of the gravest governmental failures of modern times.

The tragedy is that this is only now being acknowledged.

Lockdown was a policy conceived in the early days by China and the World Health Organisation as a way of suppressing the virus altogether (so-called zero Covid).

European countries, except Sweden, eagerly embraced lockdown, ripping up a decade of pandemic planning that had been based on concentrating help on vulnerable groups and avoiding coercion.

It was always obvious that you could not close down a country for months on end without serious consequences. The shocking thing that emerges from Sunak’s interview is that the government refused to take them into account. There was no assessment of the likely collateral costs of lockdown. There was no cost-benefit analysis. There was no planning. In government the issues were not even discussed. Sunak’s own attempts to raise them hit a brick wall. Ministers took refuge in evasive buck-passing, claiming to be “following the science”.

The lockdown was an experiment in authoritarian government unmatched in our history even in wartime.

Discussion of fundamental issues was ruled out in the name of collective responsibility..........

Merkel pushes for tighter movement restrictions in German Covid-19 hotspots   [5 Jan 2021]

    Quote

The government and states have agreed to restrict travel for residents in Covid-19 hotspots to a 15 km radius, according to DPA.

When a district hits an average of 200 coronavirus infections per 100,000 residents in seven days, those living there will only be allowed to travel a maximum of 15 km from their home, according to the draft agreement.

Chancellor Merkel had been pushing for this order to come into force in regions with an incidence rate of 100 infections per 100,000 people in seven days. If Merkel got her way, this rule would then apply to most of the country, effectively bringing regional travel to a complete standstill.

According to the draft decision paper, more than 70 districts in Germany have an incidence of over 200, just 99 districts or cities have an incidence of less than 100.

In total, there are 294 districts and 107 independent cities in Germany.

On their way, they will have to join forces with other children, and evade swarms of rats using fire and light. Aided only by the link that binds their fates together, they will face untold horrors in their struggle to survive. As their adventure begins… the time of innocence ends.

The Plague has long been a source of morbid fascination for just about anyone interested in Medieval Europe. Responsible for the deaths of upward of a third of the European population, the images it evokes of pus-filled boils, streets clogged with corpses, and hordes of pestilential rats are perennial fodder for the apocalyptic imagination. “A Plague Tale: Innocence” reimagines the pandemic as a gothic tale.

    US-Election 2020

If you take the Fridays for Future demonstrations last year or this year the Black Lives Matter protests, despite understandable reasons why such protest happening there was always the thought that such movements are supported  and happening due to important political events. Last year the EU elections and the neverending story to weaken and topple Trump, the attempt to start the FFF movement aswell in the US with big PR traveling by boat but it actually did not succeed like in the EU/Germany. This year a strong raise of the BLM movement which got pushed (at least when you watch google trends) already in the 2016 election. The black community in the US is divided and not all of them including more conservative voters do not agree with all or even oppose the BLM protests.

  11. The US is re-fighting its Civil War narrative  (June 11, 2020; JP)

    Quote

Officers under Gen. Lee are seen today as ‘traitors’ and ‘white supremacists,’

part of an unfolding narrative in the US that sees the current police brutality and racism as linked to the Civil War.

Lee, the Confederate general, had been offered command of the Federal forces Abraham Lincoln wanted to use to fight the succession of southern states. He chose his state over the Union. Today, that is seen as treason – even though at the time, the Lincoln administration generally did not hang southerners for treason.

Part of what is happening in the US is anger over the reverence shown for Confederate soldiers and generals in the US South. After the Civil War, the South was briefly occupied by Federal soldiers, and there was reconstruction. However, when that era ended, the South rapidly reverted to an attempt to resurrect aspects of the pre-1860 period. African-Americans were deprived of voting rights, segregation became a form of American-style apartheid, the KKK rose and lynching increased.

Other Union generals, such as William T. Sherman or Phil Sheridan, did not do well in history. Sheridan is thought to have said that “the only good Indian is a dead Indian.” Sherman burned cities and invented total war. Furthermore, those like Sheridan and others who fought against Native Americans after the Civil War were brutal in their treatment of nonwhites. John Chivington, who massacred Native Americans at Sand Creek in 1864, was a Union officer. He fought against the Confederacy, but was his cause less white supremacy than those he fought ?..........................

  13. Doctors rethinking coronavirus:  -  Yahoo, April 8 2020

Are we using ventilators the wrong way?

In a video posted to YouTube on March 31, which has been widely circulated and discussed among doctors on the front lines of fighting COVID-19, Cameron Kyle-Sidell, an emergency medicine doctor at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, explains how, like most health care workers around the U.S., when he first started providing critical care for coronavirus patients in March, he was under the impression that he would be treating patients with a “viral pneumonia infection that would progress into acute respiratory distress syndrome.

    ---------> (C. Kyle-Sidell video)

"they do not lool like patients dying of pneumonia...patients

in front of me look like dropped off on the top of the

Mt. Everest without time to acclimate"

    Quote

“COVID-19 lung disease, as far as I can see, is not a pneumonia and should not be treated as one,” said Kyle-Sidell. “Rather, it appears as if some kind of viral-induced disease most resembling high altitude sickness. It is as if tens of thousands of my fellow New Yorkers are on a plane at 30,000 feet and the cabin pressure is slowly being let out. These patients are slowly being starved of oxygen.”

“I fear,” he said, that using ventilators “to increase pressure on the lungs in order to open them up, is actually doing more harm than good, ......

......and that the pressure we are providing to lungs, we may be providing to lungs that cannot take it, and that the ARDS that we are seeing may be nothing more than lung injury caused by the ventilator.”

Is this proof 'life-saving' ventilators are actually deathtraps?  -   April 17  2020

Their success rate is appalling and medics are increasingly worried they may do more harm than good, disturbing report reveals

    Quote

Many of the most eminent medical specialists, governments and politicians were insisting in the early days that ventilators were a crucial life-saver.

Dr David Farcy, the president of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, warns against using them indiscriminately. His patients have been treated successfully with fastflow oxygen delivered through a simple nasal tube or mask.

'This has challenged everything we thought', he said. 'Six weeks ago everybody (in a hospital) would be running around getting ready to intubate you, put you on a machine'. But not any more.

So why the change of tune?

The answer is that some doctors have a remarkable new thesis:

that the virus's symptoms are more akin to highaltitude breathing difficulties (caused by a lack of oxygen at extreme heights) or even carbon monoxide poisoning (which snuffs out oxygen in the body's red blood cells).

These mini Goebbels with their copy/paste parroting (surprisingly no diversity in their speeches or texts🤣) think they have the upper hand everywhere besides their echo chambers, we shall see if its true in the next 2-5 years.

When I was a student and in the time before, I was travelling a lot as a backpacker to many countries  on different continents around the world  for months. Our world is just beautiful. There was one thing what I did learn, that culture is unique and diverse around our planet, people are brothers n sisters at heart. Besides that you actually value, discover and tolerate the diversity in our world you learn a lot about yourself,  you get a view from outside about your origin and recognize that also your own culture and society is unique, you notice that Europe is a pearl of a continent with the most density of culturual diversity in the world.

To tell any european citizen of any country or region that those would not have their own culture is not just historical wrong its an effrontery, and if the wheel was invented in Mesopotamia and brought to here it doesnt mean they did invent a motor vehicle.

Those who are responsible with the release of such content shouldnt be suprised about if they are actually creating here and there nationalism, trying to spread some form of tolerance for foreigness but actually create content which is directed against the own identity of regions or countries of the viewer.

Google search is really bad compared to ten years ago, when you actually could find content from all directions, also from small blogs or websites. Nowadays you even get sometimes bad search results when you put it in quotion mark.... sucks and feels like a cleaned up Internet.

Duckduckgo.com, Yandex.com, yippy.com or dogpile.com....just some examples which are a good alternative for google search.
