Petition for ToH FM implemented into Arma 3
MD500Enthusiast posted a topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - COMMUNITY PREVIEW
Oh BiS dear lord for all that is good and holy please implement the flight models of ToH into Arma 3. Though in single player you can choose the dumbed down FM or turn on realistic FM, but for multiplayer the server can either choose realistic or arcade FM and everyone in the server will be stuck with that option. This way you can please the simmers and the casual fans, it will also make this game so much more addicting and target a much broader audience. It's a win win situation for you guys! CHA CHING! Keep up the good work, BiS you're finally heading into the right direction as far as the helicopter modeling/handling is concerned. I've waited so long since FlashPoint to be able to fly my squad into combat in a helo and get that feeling that i've done something difficult and praise worthy and not many people can because flying a helicopter is suppose to be extremely difficult. I sincerely hope you guys will implement the FM of ToH into Arma 3, because it'll just make the game so much more immersive and richer. And just think about all the praise you will get from so many fans of sim and fps community, Arma 3 will become a gem in midst of mediocre cookie cutter games that so many other developers are dishing out each year. I've already preordered ToH and can't wait to see how Arma 3 will turn out and of course i'll preorder Arma 3 as well and buy any expansion you guys make for both games. -
the so called religious fanatics are not stupid at all, look at the domino effect they've created by flying a few planes into our buildings, they've practically crippled the united states and beyond. i am not siding with them but please look at this objectively. they'd gain nothing to use a nuke so close to their home, because nuclear fall out alone would kill them off slowly not to mention the retaliatory nuke strike from nato, it's mutually assured destruction. having nuclear weapons for any nation is equivalent of getting a seat at the poker table. if you have a nuke you have a voice, why do you think nato try so hard to stop non allied nations from developing such technology? ---------- Post added at 06:10 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:58 AM ---------- sure you could start a skirmish with your third world next door neighboring country. though we're talking about nuclear war here, how do you think anyone's going win/benefit from it? there's no place for anyone to go after the nuclear holocost and the fall out would slowly and painfully kill everyone. so how do you think this will serve anyone, especially that said dictator?

make sure you have your collective put in as analog in where you map your keys. -
when did BiS tried giving the end user the option to choose between realism and arcade except maybe hud vs no hud?
-
choose arcade setting.

5 minute startup for helis? i can take it or leave it. the intent is not have arma that needs 2 zillion keybinds for every vehicle, the objective is to make it so that the vehicles/aircrafts has the same behavior as the real ones so it's more convincing, it doesn't need to be true to life but it should at least fly/drive like how airplanes/helicopters/vehicles should. as far as the avionics? sure the attack helos/fixed wing could use some improvement so we're not just tab=god.

Takeoff trim suicide skid flip
MD500Enthusiast replied to coolts's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - GENERAL
in a real helicopter yes that is the expected behavior, however not in this game. make sure if your pedal has more than 2 axis that only 2 axis is used for the pedals. my CH pedal has 4 axis and if i don't program it right it has that affect. also please make sure to clear all other keybinds to your pedals except for your pedal axis. -
Takeoff trim suicide skid flip
MD500Enthusiast replied to coolts's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - GENERAL
this really is strange, i need absolutely no trim to make a stable take off in a light helo. all i have to do is add collective and the bird will fly up. occasionally it'll tend to drift backwards and i just correct it with slight forward cyclic. but in forward flight the light does require quite a bit of trim to level it out without joystick input. but perhaps the reason why you guys are having so much difficulty taking off is because you're over controlling/correcting? if you're moving your joystick correctly when hovering/take off etc, the joystick ingame when you're looking down should be barely moving when you move your actual joystick. take a look at it in the game and if it's moving anymore than just a slightest then you're over controlling. flying helicopters is all about finess, the controlls can't be thrown around like in a fixed wing. i would really like to get into a multiplayer session with anyone who has trouble with takeoffs/hovering so i can determine if it's a game bug or pilot error. -

arma is definately playable as a lone wolf in domination, but how often do you see 1 person on the ground completing the objective by running in guns blazing? he'll get mowed down before he reaches the AO. -
yes that's true, but let's focus one thing at a time huh? i think they're up to their necks in figuring helicopters out atm. wait til arma 4 maybe they'll release take on fixed wing LOL.

i did noticed you OC your rig quite a bit, are you sure you oced it correctly? i know with my i7 920 i had to turn off a few features in bios etc. most likely it's your video card, i have a 580gtx and i run all of my settings on very high except for aa and af those are on normal and it's on 1920x1080 resolution. right i read about the 10k rpm drive but i assume you didn't mean raid 0 config right? -

that sounds interesting, can you play on multiplayer without the game noticing you've made changes to the game files? if so can you upload it so we can test it? -

he also didn't state what brand/speed his ram is. if you're running your ram at like 600mhz (just an imaginary figure) then that might be your problem too. also you might want to try at least raid 0 with 10k rpm hd setup for gaming now adays if not ssd. -
Finding the right ballance between realism and playability
MD500Enthusiast replied to someone1's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
sorry to beat a dead horse maybe the word you guys are looking for is not accessibility or usability but making the game more intuitive. easy to understand but difficult to employ? i'm a helo pilot so i'll use helicopter analogy. learning the basic principals of helicopter flight is pretty straight forward, x happens so y is the consequence and z is what you need to do. all that's simple in a text book but very different when you're actually flying (when the helicopter behaves realistically at least). this is how the game should be like, the tutorial systems should make it intuitive that you can understand what you need to do but it should be difficult to employ once you're actually playing the game or flying the helicopter. i do agree the ui is quite old and the controls are a bit clunky and the communication voice overs are regressive, you'd think after a decade they'd took a week or so to take new voice samples or make the models more fluid and life like and menus easier to navigate? also i actually read through this whole thread (all 14 pages) and i just have to say something about the player making a mission placing an artillery team in his squad. what if the player starts playing and is all happy then squad size opponent ambushes him and kills the artillery team? how will he call for artillery then? or what if he was trying to create a multiplayer map where everyone can call on that artillery, will everyone who joins the game have a squad of artillery operators in their team? he'd need to go back to the editor, place the artillery team outside of the players' squads in a safe position like 7km away in a friendly base and will need to employ a script so everyone who is playing can call artillery to hit a specific location on the map. now the player has a sad face again because he can't figure out how to do it. my point is that this game requires a different attitude than most to enjoy, it forces us to adapt, be patient, learn and cooperate with others. be it creating missions or how to lead a shot when you have a 7kt crosswind or how to coordinate with your team or how to fly a helo etc and that's just cold hard fact. some people will be very good at one thing and fail miserably at another and that's why we have this wonderful community to help each other out. sometimes no amount of accessability can accomodate the the lack of intelligence/capability or our unwillingness to adapt and learn new things, unless you play run, point and shoot type games. to the person that compares gta4 to arma.... you've got to be kidding right? imagine arma is the prestiged harvard/mit university, it's not meant to be accessible but the rewards are great. people might ask them to make it more accessible to the general public but tough shit. this is not an elitist mentality but it's this that seperates arma from the rest, and arma IS the only one of it's kind and it appeals to a pretty narrow range of audience. this requirement for intelligent, teamwork based game play is what seperates arma from cod/bf3 etc. -
if you've never flown helicopters and are willing to try it i'd say yes. the flight model isn't realistic yet but hopefully after a couple of patches it'll get there. also note that helicopter is infinitely more challenging to fly than a fixed wing aircraft so be prepared to be frustrated and relearn what you know about flying.
