I hope that the on screen interface gets updated for Arma 3. First, remove the magic bullet counter, look at how this is handled in ACE and the Red Orchestra games. Also, please remove the reload icon that pops up in the middle of the screen. Incredibly annoying, especially when using single shot AT weapons, where it will obscure your view immediately after you've pressed the trigger. Also, a couple of things need to be added. A stance indicator, and something showing where your injuries are when you have been injured. Unlike the amount of ammo in your weapon and magazines, in real life you will constantly be aware of your stance and any injuries to your body. I think in a realistic game as Arma, the on screen indicators should reflect the information you will have in real life as much as possible.

I need help scripting and creating Missions, Any Ideas?
JSj replied to britishlegion's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Hi! There is an editing section of the forum, but it can be hard to find, as for some reason it isn't visible on the normal forum section page. Here it is: http://forums.bistudio.com/forumdisplay.php?f=92 Other than that, there are also a couple of guides out there that you might want to check out. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=112633 http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=4847 Mr Murray's guide is for Arma 1, not 2. But most of the stuff covered there is still useful for Arma 2. -
Wow! I've almost learned to live with nearly every video being ruined by adding pointless music. But in an instructional video? Seriously? :j:

It's an external fuel tank, with 600 gallons of extra fuel. It's never used in combat, only for ferrying missions, relocating from one base to another.

The ACE people have several times stated that they are busy enough as it is, there is no way they can be responsible for ensuring that ACE is compatible with all the thousands of other mods out there. You will probably have better luck trying to get the Blastcore people to make their mod ACE compatible.

Rifle mounted grenade launcher. Tips and Tricks?
JSj replied to Tankbuster's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
There may be more or less awkward workarounds (like that guide in the link, or just firing enough grenades that you get pretty good at learning to guess where they'll hit), but the grenade launchers are just broken, as there's no way to set the range of the sights and aim them properly. This has been discussed in several threads here on the forum. So you're not the only one having trouble hitting anything. Fortunately, this will be fixed in Arma 3, as demonstrated in this video: 0IQIGDCZecM&o -
Yes, absolutely. And it's not just the stance controls, a lot of other controls too are not named in a way that makes it obvious what they do. You pretty much have to experiment to find out how all the controls work, especially since the manual doesn't cover this. I hope all this in improved upon in Arma 3.

I personally don't like toggle stance keys at all. When I press a stance key I want to go to that stance, no matter what my current stance is (without a stance indicator on screen, which I think all FPS games need, it's easy to lose track of whether you're currently crouching or standing up), and regardless of how many times I press the button. Especially when under fire or at other stressful times, I have found that I often press the stance key more than once, causing me to jump up and down when using toggle keys. This has got me killed countless times in various FPS games, it's not good standing up when you're trying to duck behind some cover. :)

Thanks, I found it now! I think it's a good idea to move it, since I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank you for this and the other wonderful islands you've made. I've spent countless hours on them, they are all beautiful and extremely well made. :bounce3: -

COOP 2 Island Escape v1.1 - Fight the zombie hordes on Mana Island in scenic Fiji!
JSj replied to colosseum's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
Hi Colosseum, I have a question. When hosting this mission (LAN), I don't get the usual opportunity to enable or disable AI control of empty slots. It would be nice to have this extra help from the AI, especially when playing the mission alone. I think that the units have to be marked "playable" in the mission for this to work. Have you done that? Or does anyone know what needs to be done to make it possible for the AI to fill up empty slots in a MP mission? If the mission could be updated, it would also be playable as a single player mission. -

JSj replied to colosseum's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
It seems that it was indeed CBA that was missing. There were now zombies in the mission I LAN hosted, after I added @CBA. I think this should be noted as a necessary addon for the mission. I just had time to test the mission for a few minutes now, but I look forward to playing it more later, it seems like great fun. Thanks for sharing it! -
Ok, thanks for the replies, now I'm a bit more sure that I will enjoy the game. As far as I can see, it's 40 Euros, not 42.36? Or will there be taxes or something added too? It's a bit high, that's why I was hesitating. Had there been anyone else than BIS making the game, I would have waited for a sale on Steam, or not bought it at all. But since it's also a way of supporting BIS, and making more great games from them possible in the future, I have decieded to buy this now.

I'm thinking about buying the game too. I usually prefer military games, but this seems like fun. I'm curious about what the challenge is in the missions? Are they timed, so you need to beat the clock, or is it just about controlling the helicopter and being accurate enough, keeping your position, not crashing and all that? Or a mixture of both?

Manhatten mission - Hearing 3 shots being insta killed on 3rd, happens randomly.
JSj replied to adzc's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
I have never noticed this, and must say I am really disappointed to learn that there are restrictions on where you can go in some missions. Isn't one of Arma's main features the freedom and openness? I understand that you can't populate a whole huge map like Chernarus, but then just leave the areas away from where the mission is empty, it's no big deal. I'd much rather walk around on an empty map if I leave the mission area than suddenly being inexplicably killed. -
I can't get arma 2 and eyefinity to work properly
JSj replied to blurgh's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Hmmm..... I was sure this was set to 16:9 already, but apparently not. I must have missed checking that after plugging in the new screen and changing the resolution. Thanks for pointing it out!! This was obviously the problem. -
I can't get arma 2 and eyefinity to work properly
JSj replied to blurgh's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I had a similar problem, just got a 1920x1080 screen (I only use one screen). I changed resolution in the settings to 1920x1080 (100%), and the image was stretched out vertically, and compressed horizontally. So I looked up the config files noted on page 1, FOV top was 0.75 and FOV left 0.9375. I changed the latter to 1.375, and now the image looks much better. So first, thanks for that tip, it worked great. Then a few questions: Why doesn't this adjust automatically when you change resolution in the settings? Why do you need to go into a config file? Also, did I calculate this right, is 1.375 for FOV left right for me, or will another number make the image even better? -
It's been a while since I played this, but if I remember correctly I just opened the command menu (space bar), and could then click on the place I wanted to go. Either on the map, or somewhere in the terrain if the map is closed.
-
If you really have checked the whole map, and didn't miss a vehicle somewhere, then it must be a bug. I would recommend restarting the mission, maybe there was a temporary glitch. Or if you don't want to replay the mission, go back and search again, and try to find a vehicle that you might have missed.

160thSOAR's Stupid Questions Thread
JSj replied to 160thSOAR's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
About number 2, also make sure that you use the "column" (I think that's the name) formation. Then, the second vehicle will follow behind you. If you have a "line" formation (which I think is the default), the second vehicle will want to keep formation beside you. That means it will go off road to place itself next to you when you stop. I found that the column formation makes it much easier to have the second Jackal follow behind you in this mission. -
The discussion starts on this page: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=119512&page=90 , but there's no real new info there. It would have been nice if someone from Bohemia could have settled this matter with some clarification about what squad control will be like in Arma 3.

If someone is interrested, the previous discussion of this was somewhere in the "Arma 3 confirmed features" thread. I agree with ghost101, if the current system can be improved, then great, by all means do that. But it's better to keep it like it is now rather than removing or reducing control over the AI. Then the game would be little more than just a more realistic version of a standard FPS.
