  1. Yeah, maybe a button press that displayed the fire mode briefly would be the way to go. That would simulate taking a quick glance, or feeling for the position of the selector with a finger, instead of constantly touching it.
  2. Absolutely, this is how it should be done. Permanently displayed damage indicator, stance indicator, and fire mode indicator are the things that are needed on the HUD, as they all represent things you'll be constantly aware of in real life. Everything else should go, including, of course, magic crosshairs and ammo counters.
  3. Yes, but the stance indicator is no "helper", it just gives you feedback of the position of your body, something you're instinctively aware of in real life.
  4. Stop putting your opinions forward as fact, as they are not. Some people like to have the stance indicator, some don't. This is why there should be a simple option for On, Off, and Fade, so everyone can choose what system they want. It would be nice if someone from BIS explained exactly how this will work. There seem to be 3 HUD settings: Allow full HUD info, Extended HUD info, and permanent extented HUD info. Which of these will affect the stance indicator, and what will be the differences between the difficulty levels? There's just too many variations of these settings and difficulties to test it quickly.
  5. Really bad decision, as this indicator has nothing to do with the difficulty of the game, it's about having access to information that you will always be aware of in real life. So, now those of us that like to use veteran or expert difficulty will have to start playing on regular to get the indicator always visible? Really annoying. If you really want to have stance indicator fading, just make it an independent setting, so that we can choose the system we like, regardless of difficulty.
  6. 15-07-2013 EXE rev. 07769 Size: ~190 MB Stance indicator fades in / out when changing stances ------------------------- Noooooooooooooooooo.................. does this mean that the stance indicator is not always visible, and there is no setting to fix this, like in Red Orchestra 2?? Why? That will make it totally useless. Isn't the point of this indicator to always know what stance you are currently in? All the time, and not just for a few seconds after you've changed your stance. I really hope I am just interpreting the change log wrong. :-(

Yes, it's a great advancement. The extra stances gives you more movement options, which is awesome. But what does this have to do with being "accessible"? It's more complex, because it has some extra controls. So it takes a little bit longer to learn and "access" fully. It's great because it is more complex, not because it is more "accessible".

I agree, I don't think the Arma 3 movement system is dumbed down. It's been made more complex with the addition of extra stances and controls. I don't understand in what way this would be "more accessible"? It seems rather less "accessible", as there are more controls to learn and use.

Sounds great! This sounds great too, but then please stop using the word "accessible", because that has always ended up meaning only one thing when used by developers, and that is "dumbing down". Something we don't want to see in Arma 3.

Well, it's never a good sign. Countless game series have been dumbed down and ruined after the developers started talking about making it "more accessible". And I can't think of any example where this kind of talk has actually lead to an improvement of a series. If we wanted a simple, "accessible" game we'd all be playing Call of Duty or Battlefield, not Arma. This might be an unfortunate effect of DayZ attracting the CoD-crowd to Arma. Yes, I noticed this myself and edited my post. Hopefully this is the correct interpretation.

Definitely sounds like a step towards the "you need a full magazine to kill someone" of run of the mill action shooters. Sounds very bad indeed... :-( EDIT: Or maybe not, it said "getting shot at", not "getting shot". If it just means a lowering of the AI accuracy, so they don't always instantly hit you with the first round, that's good. But if it means "getting shot and taking a lot of shots before you die", that's not good. I hope I misinterpreted it before, and that it is the first case that is what he meant.
  12. I got the e-mail (managed to get the supporter edition on day 1), and now I have also got a 25 Eur gift code in the BIS shop. This is really generous, big thanks BIS!! I couldn't care less about getting my name in a credits list that no-one is ever going to read. Is everyone who bought the supporter edition getting that discount?

    Moveable Target Range

Thanks for getting the Arma 3 version out so quickly, this is really invaluable, both for training and getting an overview of all available weapons. Is there any chance of expanding this to also make all equipment selectable? I'm mostly thinking of getting access to the various sights and weapons attachments, but getting an overview of all available equipment would also be awesome.
  14. Really people? Doesn't anyone have anything else to write about than page after page of "Will you add this? Will you add that?" They already said that they are not even focusing fully on the Arma 3 version yet. How about waiting at least until the first version is released before starting to demand things? I'm sure that if the team ever find themselves with free time and want to add new content, and they run out of ideas for what to pick, they'll ask for our input.
  15. This is going to be awesome, I very much look forward to this being released!!! I enjoyed the Arma 2 version a lot, but since I'm not too interrested in the futuristic weapons and equipment of Arma 3, I'll be spending a lot more time with this one. The WIP pics looks great! Thanks for all your great work to bring WWII into the Arma world.

    Need Stance Indicator

I've lost count of the many times over the years that I have, for instance, been running in a shooter (not just Arma), and then after a while I notice that I am going quite slowly, and realize that it is because I am crouched instead of standing up. So, nowadays I find myself constantly pressing the key for the stance I want to be in, just to make sure that I actually am in that stance. (For this reason, I never use toggle keys, just "go to".) So, it would be extremely useful for me to always instantly be able to see what stance I am currently in. And of course, all the new stances in Arma 3 will make it even more difficult to always remember what exact stance you are currently in, especially with bullets and grenades flying around, and you being more focused on the enemy than keeping track of your current stance.

    Need Stance Indicator

Yes, a stance indicator has always been needed in Arma. And now the need has increased a lot by all the new stance options. And no, it should NOT be just a temporary thing, it needs to be always visible. Otherwise, it serves no purpose, because then you'll have to always remember what stance you're currently in, or press a button just to get the indicator to show so you can check your stance.

Not a fan of the HUD's aesthetic

Agreed, a crosshair should never, ever even be considered to be included in a sim. It doesn't matter if it can be turned off, it's still extremely annoying that it even exist. Makes the game feel like an arcade shooter. And there's apparently still a magic bullet/magazine counter too. Disappointing! Too bad BIS didn't look closer at Red Orchestra 2, that is an awesome HUD. However, these are just small complaints. Overall, judging from the videos, the improvements over Arma 2 seem amazing. Now, if they could just sort out the Steam keys for us who bought the Support Edition. I want to try it now, and not have to wait several days! Probably should just have bought it from Steam...
  19. Ok, then we know it's not a mod conflict problem. Take a look at "similar threads" below, there are several that seems to deal with capturing Bardak, maybe there is some help there.
  20. Play with OA and no mods. Never use any mods whatsoever when playing official missions or campaigns. And there might be some fixes that require OA, so play with that, not just with A2. Not saying that this is guaranteed to fix your problem, there might be something else causing it. But you can't know that without testing without mods. The next step, if the problem does not go away, is to restart the mission and try again. It's quite common to encounter a random temporary problem that will go away if you restart the mission from the beginning.

Army of the Czech Republic DLC

Do you enjoy playing official SP missions and campaigns? Do you enjoy having access to a lot of different units, maps, equipment and weapons? If so, definitely buy the DLC:s. If not, they may not add much to your Arma 2 experience. Also, as pointed out already, BAF is by far the best, so if you're only going to get one DLC, get that one. But I think they are all so cheap by now that if you decide to buy, you can just as well get all of them. There's been a lot of complaints about ACR, but I think it's at least as good as PMC.
  22. In my experience, you're lucky if you find just one place to refuel during a mission, don't expect to find more. So if you know where there is fuel available, just go back there. (This is just a general observation, so I'm not saying that I'm absolutely sure that there is nowhere else to refuel during this particular mission, but I would not expect that.)

    Questions

Also, don't get discouraged by the tendency, in the beginning, of "usually end up shot/dead before I even see the enemy". That's the experience of pretty much every new Arma player. You can't play Arma like you play shooters, that will only get you killed quickly. You need to use realistic, real world tactics to stay alive. Always use cover and concealment, and don't expose yourself on open ground. As an infantryman, you need to stay hidden to stay alive.
  24. I have not personally explored this mission in detail so I am not 100% sure, but I think I read in another thread that there is no way to reload the Pandur. You need to be careful with the ammo to make it last (and not be so unlucky that the AI wastes it all :-).

Army of the Czech Republic DLC

It's been very quiet from BIS lately. There's also the apparently delayed Arma 3 community Alpha, that were to be released "after E3". Maybe they have decided not to release anything until they get their people home from Greece? I can imagine it would be hard focusing on getting content out while their coworkers are still locked up on those bogus charges.
