PMC08: Preparation - How to load weapons into chopper
JSj replied to OMAC's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
Maybe if you don't use the "drop" command, but use the arrows in the top left area to "transfer" the stuff from you (right side), to the gear content (left side)? Will that make a difference? -

I understand how you feel, but that's not a good idea. If you give them your money for a game you're not interrested in, what's going to happen? They look at the sales figures and say: "Look, this game is popular and sells well, let's make another one like that." So, more games that you do not want to play will be made. Are you still going to keep buying them? Wouldn't you rather see the release of something you are interrested in? When this helicopter game comes out, I'll decide if I want to play it or not. I wouldn't give my money away for something I do not want. -
What's the overall best rifle for the AI in Arma II?

NkEnNy has some good tips further up on this page. EDIT: Of course there had to be a new page for my post just because I wrote that... it's on the last page. -
What's the overall best rifle for the AI in Arma II?
JSj replied to David Schofield's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Any of the 7.62 Nato ones, like the Mk-17 or FN Fal. One shot kills every time, unlike the 5.56 ones where you might need 3-5 shots to drop someone. -

Well, then they would have had to only make this announcement to those places where it's April 1 already, not to the whole world. Which they didn't. :p -

April Fool on March 31? I don't think so. -
It has: http://ace.dev-heaven.net/wagn/Wind_Deflection Maybe there has been a recent change, so that you can no longer disable wind deflection in the user settings, but as far as I know you can still turn it off.

This looks awesome, can't wait to try it out! Just what I've been waiting for. Sniping is a lot more fun and realistic in ACE, so I'd rather see you make more missions in ACE than wasting time with a non ACE version.

I'm glad Arma uses all metric. I like to fly the Warthog in the flight simulator DCS:A-10C. It's an absolutely amazing simulator, but it's a pain having to deal with knots and feets.

As always, all the important information can be found in the first post.

Nice mission! The great thing about playing games set in the WWII era is that you can actually have real night missions. No night vision devices or thermal sights that takes all the fun out of sneaking around at night with limited visibility.

From what I have found in the few books I have access to right now the numbers are very consistent with the Wikipedia ones. Unfortunately, I don't seem to have any English books about the Polish campaign, only Swedish, so I can't give any recommendations about reliable authors or books. Sources mentioned as being used for my Swedish books are the archives of the Polish General Sikorsky Institute, the German Bundesarchiv-Militärarchiv and the National Archives in Washington where captured German documents were taken after the war. So I think these figures are very reliable. Now, maybe we should get back to discussing the mod. Sorry for taking the thread off topic, just wanted to correct the not quite correct statement that the German and Polish losses were about equal. Still, the numbers make it clear that the Polish forces put up a good fight despite the impossible odds. The campaign was certainly not a quick and painless victory for the Germans, despite it often being described that way.

It was a while ago, but if I remember correctly, the problem was not the sights, but that the grenades couldn't reach all the way to the target I was trying to hit. The AAV gunner does have zoomed optics, right? Anyway, maybe I will do a max range test on these weapons. If I do I will post the results here.
-
I will take a look later tonight when I get home. I have some books that I can check to see if I can find some original sources. Oh, I didn't post that link in response to someone saying that there were no charges at all. If that is how it seemed, I apologize. I just thought it was an interresting account of a mounted charge by Polish cavalry.
-
Sure, but there are also thousands of people who will correct any wrong entries immediately, so Wikipedia is actually quite reliable. For instance, when compared against Encyclopedia Britannica in a study, Wikipedia had fewer errors per page than EB did.
-
Are you talking about the campaign in Poland here? If so, the numbers seems very wrong. Germany had less than 50000 dead and wounded, Poland around 200000. (Numbers from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invasion_of_Poland) Anyway, the mod looks great, looking forward to seeing more. I agree that this is an interresting period of the war has been used too infrequently in games before. Also, there was at least one mounted cavalry charge during the campaign, not against tanks of course, but against unprepared infantry that was taken by surprise: http://www.polishnews.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=404%3Alast-great-charge-of-the-polish-cavalry&catid=93%3Ahistoriapolish-history&Itemid=329&showall=1

Speaking of range, the full auto 40 mm weapons like the Mk19 seems to have an extremely short range in the game. It's supposed to have a range of about 1,5 km, right? I've never been able to fire anywhere close to that far in the game. I remember driving around in an AAV and finding the Mk19 quite useless other than at extremely close ranges.
-
Substituting working sights with practicing until you can guess roughly where you'll hit is a bad idea. Both in real life and while playing this game. I for one will not use the grenade weapons until the sights are fixed. When playing Arma2 I prefer having fun in missions, rather than firing thousands of grenades on the range just to be able to better guess where they'll land.
-
Isn't that the weapon that is in the game already? It's just that the sight is messed up and doesn't work at all.
-
I have never noticed this. Are you looking at the front of the M113, not the rear? If I remember correctly, the M113 has its engine in front, unlike most of the other vehicles in this mission.

Not wanting to read through 86 pages is understandable. But not even reading the first post (which is where the neccessary information always is) is just lazy. And the CO info is at the very top of the first post. ;)

PMC 05 Elimination - Thermal scope issues in MP
JSj replied to Anticept's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
I haven't played this myself in MP, but I have read here on the forums that this is how it's supposed to be. When playing MP, you're supposed to work as a sniper/spotter team, with Asano using his thermal scope and telling the sniper where to shoot. -
What happened with 31st Normandy? All of a sudden, the thread here on the forum was closed, no information given. I'm also looking forward to the CO-version very much. I'm having fun with what's out now, but having to run it with only Arma 2 is a bit awkward.

PMC04: Transportation... BI, WTF were you thinking?
JSj replied to OOPz's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
Well, the convoy diverted and avoided the village with the tanks, they didn't know about the bad guys in the other village. Also, it's not a mechanized military force we're talking about, but a convoy of standard civilian cars (well, just a little bit up-gunned and up-armoured :)) So they pretty much need to stick to the roads and not go driving into the hills. -
PMC04: Transportation... BI, WTF were you thinking?
JSj replied to OOPz's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
Haven't played this mission in a while, but if I remember correctly the diversion just means making a turn and taking a different road south, instead of the originally intended one. So, there is no need to drive into the hills, just take the new route and stay on the road.
