  1. He just said that things are a fortune, and not only that some people can't afford the near future Sandy Bridge Processors by Intel, you may have unlimited pockets, but I sure as hell don't.

But to answer your question domiS, yes the AMD Phenom X4 955 Quad @ 3.2 GHz and the GTX 460 would be fine to run this game.

Didn't understand mutch of that, anyhow, Yayrad is the guy you kindly answered. :)

  2. I dont know what prices you pay for hardware in norway but here in the netherlands the seller should be very happy to get 1300,- for that setup.

a comparable new setup with i7-2600k with a decent case, psu and gtx 570 card will cost about 1200 here.

This is Norway, things cost a fortune here.

Considering this machine got some outdated parts makes me hesitate.

Buying a 970 now isn't cost effective. The 2600K is a far better choice and OCing (as long as it is done properly) will not damage the CPU.

If you want the true performance king, you're better off waiting until Q3 and SB-E although it will come with the same price premiums as the 970/980x.

I've read the sandy bridge mainboard will support the upcoming sandy bridge processors with more than 4 cores. If thats the case, i will skip the 970 "deal". Thanks for the information :)

  3. I understand. The reason is i found this used to a fair price (aprox 1800 euros/ 14000 norwegian kroners), with the option of upgrading some parts, excluding the mainboard and processor ofcourse. So its all about if i should go for this offer or not. Im aware this is close to stepping one step backwards interms of technology, but is the difference that big? and yeah, thats why i find this such a difficult decition. :)

  4. Thanks for the replies.

I've heard that the 2600k needs a overclock to match a 970 6 core, and im pretty mutch a novice when it comes to such thing, and if i have o.c processor at full trottle over a long period of time with rendering, the processor might be damaged. The mainboard was called back cause of a fault. The good thing with the sandy bridge is that i have good upgrade options later on.

  5. Im upgrading my system, and need your point of view of the specs.

    Usage:

ARMA2, cinmea 4d (rendering) and image editing.

These are the specs ive included:

CABINET: Silverstone Fortress II Midi Tower SortVifter: 3x 180mm Bunn, 1x 120mm Topp, Aluminium

    CPU: Intel Core i7 970 Hexa 6 x 3,2Ghz 12MB, 4,8GT/sec

CPU-Cooler: Original Intel cooler i7 Extreme

    GPU: ZOTAC GeForce GTX 480 1536MB PhysX CUDA PCI-Express 2.0, GDDR5, 2xDVI, native-mini HDMI, HDCP, Graphics Plus

    HOVEDKORT: GIGABYTE S-1366 X58 ATX 4xPCI-E Audio7.1 GbLAN 1394 Raid DDR3 SATA3 USB3.0

    RAM: Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600MHz 12GB CL9 Kit w/6x 2GB XMS3 modules, CL9-9-9-24, 1.65V, Intel XMP

PSU: Tagan 2-Force II Series 800W

    HDD1: Kingston SSDNow/M Series 80GB SATA2 2.5

    HDD2: Western Digital Caviar® Green™ 1TB SATA 3Gb/sec, dynamic 5400-7200RPM, 64MB

Samsung DVD±RW burner, SH-S223C 22x DVD, DVDRAM, SATA, Black, Bulk

Is there anything that might be wise to include or exchange with something else? I know the new sandy bridge is out, but got only 4 cores so far.

Thinking of SLI setup, and also considering the 570 gfx, but from what ive read the 480 abit better cause of its memory (need that for unbiased rendering).

    any tips appreciated

  6. Hm.. while searching for new parts for my new computer i found this pc used for about 1200 euros.

    1. How will this run ARMA2 (its a 3 way setup with a close to ancient card :P)

    2. Is this processor o.c'able?

    3. Heeyy.. old specs man, you need a new setup.. ;)

I will upgrade to a SLI 480 later if i go or this..

  7. The 480 is a much better choice than the 5970 (unless you buy the 4 GB one which is very expensive). I own both of them so I have a lot of firsthand experience with them and I can tell you that having used ATI (5870 and 5970) for 6 months and then going back to Nvidia when the 480 released, I am much happier with Nvidia.

I also prefer SLI to CF, it scales better in my experience and you can adjust profiles as opposed to having to wait for ATI to release their 'hard coded' ones.

The 5970 drops into single digits in many tests.

As you can see here, with high levels of AA etc, the 480 is quite a bit better than the 5970.

Interesting link, im leaning towards dual 480's. I can upgrade to 3 way configuration later on with the right mainboard. How big power supply do i need for a 2 ways fermi? 1500w for a 3 way fermi sounds alot.

edit: and would you recommend to buy a watercooler for the dual cards? (i rather not oc)

  8. I was able to bump 3d resolution to 150%, post processing on high and object detail is now very high and I only lost 1 or 2 fps so I am more than pleased with the results. Just curious why it wasn't as easy to get working as most people make CF to be these days.

Ah, thats a great improvement. :)

Its not the first time ive heard, or experienced optimizing/important changes in the registery to get the AMD hardware to work like it should. Which is not good if you ask me.

I might go for a SLI of 5970 or a 480 when the prices have decreased abit. Its a mess cause im a "i-want-it-right-now" type of guy, well also called inpatient.:j:

  9. @jasonnoguchi

Doesn't that sound like the dynamic campaign that already exist?

I dont find such a campaign for ARMA2, only ARMA1. link me pls ;)

    @Günter Severloh

Evolution mission has your patrolling choppers and planes.

I think Evo is only mp, but ill do some more research on it!

    kronzky's Urban Patrol Script

    http://kronzky.info/ups/index.htm

this would be very useful for the idea, and theres a version for Arma 2.

Great! This is a good asset! Ill take a look into it

Remember the point with this "mission" is not to encounter enemies around every corner of the map, but enough units you dont know what to meet at every corner ;) I think with the Kronzkys module, its in the right direction

    @Murklor

Isnt this exactly what the ambient combat module does? Generate battles, patrols, small missions, etc, as you wander the map.

But it doesnt work in multiplayer if I remember correctly

Interesting, havent seen this before, thanks

  10. I have a concept i would like to make or be made.

    Idea:

Think of a mission that will last for hours on hours, even days (real time).

A "mission" that can be used on different ways, flexible.

Walking threw forests gives you cover for choppers, but the risk of walking straight into a patroling squad makes you paranoia, and have to watch behind every tree. Even escaping from an firefight could be the only way of surviving incase enemy calls for reinforcement.

The compass and map have to be used to make the best route threw the map without running out on open fields exposing yourself.

Finding a safe spot to rest and wait for nighttime before proceeding threw the next part of the map(e.g let your computer be on some hours while your doing other things without going out of the game).

    ACTIVITY:

    - Patroling choppers

    - Troops patroling all over

    - units patroling

    - camps with activity

    MAP:

    - Large map such as Chenarus or Panthera

    FRIENDLY (PLAYER)

    - You are alone or have more a small patrol squad with you. (this can be selected before starting up the misson)

    MISSION OBJECTIVE:

    for example;

    - None, just survive or kill as many as u can

    - Start from one side of the island and get to the other side where u can picked up by boat or chopper.

    - Attack and ambush enemy camps

    ect ect..

Look at this SP mission (or coop mission) as an platform for making different missions.

My mission making skills are not that good, but im working on it!

I guess someone with more knowledge could make this better than me. :)

    Like the idea?

  11. froggyluv - If im not wrong you can disable it in the GL4 cfg's. Manually disabled it in other words.

Kremator - wait a minute, as u showed the GL4 is first in chain, that means zeus will overide GL4. Something else i dont find logical - I use the ARMA launcher II v1.0 (which is great! props to spiritedmachine), and i can manually put the mod order. If i use the increase priority arrow, the selected mod will go towards -mod= which is first in line. That is the oposite of what you guys are saying  :)

  12. I got cba - ace2 - acex - gl4 - zeus_ace (in this order) - and alot other mods such as vfai/landtex/hifi air-vehical ectect, and not sure if the ai enhance of the gl4 are working properly.

I used the editor to check if i saw any difference in movement and such between GL4 enabled and disabled. The "mission" was setup with 2 groups setup close to eachother with 1 or 2 buildings in between for cover, and me watching it all from my civilian chopper.

The result was rather confusing cause i saw little to none of what ppl have explained the mod should do (like splitting up in fireteams, peeking around corners and such).

I've read the readme, and from what ive understood you dont have to use the modules and syncronisation in the editor to enable the AI enhance.

Hope ive done a mistake on the road ;)

Happy new year, and great work SNK :)
