    Audio Tweaking (dev branch)

I used DragonFyre the other night and was blown away how much better Jarhead's mod is and how much more immersive the game feels.
  2. Arma 3 never had VAS either, but then came along the Virtual Arsenal. As with the new start up option, the devs seem to be adding features as they go along, so I wouldn't dismiss some kind of medical system in the near future. But until then I'll continue to use BTC Revive.
  3. It seems many Arma 3 players believe they can jump in and out of servers ruining other people's gameplay by being dicks maliciously teamkilling, blowing everything up and using stealthy game hacks with impunity by ignorantly believing the worst that can happen is they'll get banned from a single server. WRONG! With teamkilling, game hacks and general dicking around now seemingly more prevalent than ever, the people who so kindly spend their spend time and resources in providing a 'free' service such as a game server for other people's enjoyment are getting pretty p*ssed off of this unnecessary childish behaviour. So much so that the administration community have now come together to share their ban lists. As a result I'm coming across more and more threads on various Arma 3 related forums - sometimes paragraphs long - written by people trying to explain their behaviour and wanting to get their GUID's removed from a banlist they believed at the time was only local to only the server they dicked around on. The moral is: if you're one of the many thousands of dicks on Arma 3 who get off on ruining other people's gameplay be prepared to suffer the consequences of earning yourself a ban on literally hundreds of servers. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Consider The Consequences Before Being A Dick On A Server

In order for public servers to survive attitudes and misconceptions need to change; players need to understand that just because they've paid for Arma 3 it doesn't give them the right to "dick" around in public servers. The immature children who get off on ruining other people's gameplay need educating IMO. They need to appreciate the time and resources what go into hosting a dedicated server. They need to appreciate that admins finance and administrate these servers for their enjoyment and that be able to join a server is a privilege and not a right just because they've purchased the game.

Consider The Consequences Before Being A Dick On A Server

There will be players who have been unfairly banned, but there is an appeal process and if the player has been banned by an admin who has been previously found to be overzealous in unfairly banning players they are removed from the verified servers list. There will be injustices as with everything in life, but it's down to the individual to put forward their case to get the ban lifted. However, if several admins have reported the same individual on different occasions for the same offence the evidence will be overwhelming and I can imagine the ban will justifiable stay in place. With the exception for people who use game hacks, I personally don't want to see anyone banned and I'd rather players just adhered to server rules.

Consider The Consequences Before Being A Dick On A Server

^^^ 100% agree ^^^. Everything is open to abuse and there will be a system in place to root out people who unfairly ban others. Personally I'm very forgiving. When a player repeatedly TK's they get a warning. Continue and they get a temp ban. Continue after that and they get a permanent ban and they're added to the shared banlist. I also choose my admins very carefully.

Consider The Consequences Before Being A Dick On A Server

Yesterday I tried an experiment by starting fresh with no ban list, but instead ran the Tactical Force Radio add-on to see if it made a difference. Unfortunately the first player to connect) TK me as soon as he had the opportunity. More disturbing, 'Daniel' revived me only so TK me again before I even had the opportunity to get back on my feet. These are the 'idiots' who will render public servers unplayable. Admins feel free to add the mentioned idiot to your ban lists.

    I can't ban someone

No, neither can they change their SteamID or Battleye ID. The only way a player can workaround a ban is by purchasing another copy of Arma. But if they have a static IP and the admin's also banned their IP the ban will still be in place.

    I can't ban someone

GUID is a player's Battleye ID and PID is player's Steam ID. The act you can decipher the GUID from a PID must mean the GUID and PID correspond with each other. I'm sure others will correct me if I'm wrong, but AFAIK, RCon and its GUI tools ban players' GUID's by placing them in the bans.txt, and the in-game admin commands ban players' PID's by placing the PID in the ban.txt that's located in the arma root directory. Like I said, they both do the same job, it's just the method you use for banning someone. If you use DaRT or EPM they'll ban the GUID's oppose to the PID's because they use Battleye's remote console AKA RCon.

    I can't ban someone

DaRT bans GUID's and places them in the BE folder's bans.txt. Bans made by the in-game # exec ban command places the banned person's PID in the ban.txt that found in the root directory. Either type of ban will stop a banned user from re-joining. As far as I know you cannot change the PID.

Consider The Consequences Before Being A Dick On A Server

Yep, it really is that simple. If people think they can just grab another copy of Arma 3 as a workaround to their ban they would have wasted their time and money. Unfortunately there are people who will just keep dicking around regardless of the consequences. They'll the ones who'll get banned and just migrate other public servers who's admins don't police or maintain their ban lists.

Consider The Consequences Before Being A Dick On A Server

People who purposely blow assets up and maliciously TK are up there with people who use game hacks; they all sabotage other people's gameplay and kill any kind of enjoyment by those wanting to play the game how it's suppose to be played and complete mission objectives. If server admins don't reinforce strict rules things quickly turn into anarchy and before you know it all the 'real' players disconnect and the idiots quickly get bored with killing each other and leave a good server deserted. People need authority and discipline.... it's the way of the world. Without it society itself would breakdown. Now, if people want to play on other people's servers they WILL respect the server's rules, the admins and other players or they'll likely receive a temporary or permanent ban that could potentially see someone banned from hundreds of servers. That's the barebones or it all. Like I said, admins are getting pretty p*ssed off with all the immature mentality of a lot of players and aren't willing to put up with people's idiotic behaviour and their nonsense anymore. If someone doesn't like how a server is being administrated or how a mission is being played, or for whatever reason, they should leave the server and move to a server that they feel more suits their needs oppose to airing their frustration by being a dick and f*cking up other people's enjoyment.

    Iraqi-Syrian Conflict

I concur. There have been many who said they're bored with the Arab scenario and welcome the futuristic theme. But urban warfare in places such as Syria and Iraq is IMO the pinnacle of a tactical shooting. The more realistic and immersive the better. Fighting bug helmet Iranians just sucks and is uninspiring.

This is what I'm talking about! What map an other addons will create the ultimate Syrian Iraq conflict mission?

How To Deal With Prolific Team Killers

I use DaRT too. Its only drawback is it can't handle large ban files. I use Paradox's Arma Ban List and that currently has over 8,000 bans in place. DaRT simple can't handle its size. Over 250 servers have contributed to this ban list so I feel I might be having to ban players that already exist in this list with DaRT. So it's a dilemma whether or not to use DaRT or the ban list. DaRT and the Ban List kind of render each useless as they both have advantages but can't be used together. I think I'll probably end up ditching DaRT and going with the Ban List because that's a potential 8,000 hacker and teamkillers already banned for me. Then by using the in-game #exec ban command I can keep my own record of local bans in the ban.txt. That way I can convert the UID to GUIDs and investigate whether or not the offenders have been previously banned by other servers. Maybe RCon tools such as DaRT will in the future be able to overcome these limitation.
  19. I've read that creating a batch file and adding it to the schedule.xml can restart your server within a set timed schedule whilst notifying players of the restart. I've had a trawl of the net but can't a simple batch to accomplish this. Does anyone have a batch I could use for this? Cheers Ian

    Scheduled Notification & Server Restart?

I was using Bec, until Nuxil terminated the service that is. Are you still able to use it?
  21. I'd me pretty irritated if I never knew how a player's UID got into the ban.txt. It's not like it would have been an easy mistake to make or one you'd not remember making. It would be interesting to know if it indeed was the case that the signature verification that place the player's UID into the ban.txt. I currently have signature verification disable as I heard I causes issues, but given the amount of hackers I've had I'm contemplating enabling it.
  22. Hi Spitfire, AFAIK ban.txt holds the UID of a player the admin chose to ban using the in-game "#exec ban command" when logged in as admin. The bans.txt file located in the BE folder contains ban players' GUID's and the GUID's are added by bans handed out by RCon or RCon based tools (I think). I too am trying to get my head around this banning business, so I'd appreciate if someone would correct me should I be wrong. GUID bans seem to be BE/Recon specific and UID in-game ban specific.

How To Deal With Prolific Team Killers

Totally agree with you. My problem is trying to police my server. I'm pretty new to administrating an A3 server and the first challenge I face is finding out who's doing what. Last night an alert game up in red text informing me a player was using a game hack and advised me to "#Kick player 43" What is all that about? Is it an injected script prompting me to kick players a hacker wants gone? Or is it BE? More to the point, if it's BE why did it even allow a player using a game hack on to my server? Also, the Arma Ban List now has over 8,000 entries and appears to be too large of a list for tools like DaRT to process. It means I have to use my own Bans.txt in the BE folder in order to be able to use DaRT. As I understand it any player I kick using the #kick command puts an offender's PID into ban.txt oppose to the Bans.txt that logs GUIDs. Can you please just confirm this is the case. It appears game hackers and teamkillers are now rife and admins really do need to get their heads together to keep this vermin out of our servers. If you have any other tips on policing my server I'd appreciate it very much. I'd like to know how to identify players who aren't in the same squad as there names aren't shown, and sometimes it's hard to identify them when they're TK in order to kick/ban them. Cheers Ian

Can I sent people playing on my server a notification that the server will be restarting in a set time using this tool?
