I doubt the requirements will be much higher than those of A3. I have an intel Core2 Duo E8400 running at 3 ghz for each core, an Nvidia GTX260 and 4 gigs of DDR3 RAM, and I can run Arma 2 at decent framerates on Chernarus with around 300 Units and a viewdistance of about 4000. A3 might even get more streamlined and optimized, and run better than Arma 2. At least, that´s what I hope. Graphics after all are good enough, what´s important is gameplay and content.

Working on a wallpaper for print right now to hang in my room. Not really monitor compatible due to awkward paper format size, but since it´s gonna be made of paper, and hung on a wall, I think it counts as "wallpaper" :p

Things ArmA 1 and OFP did better than Arma 2
instagoat replied to celery's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
AT people in Arma 2 are sometimes indeed pretty daft, sometimes needing minutes to aquire a target that is in plain sight and without obstacles inbetween. Or sometimes not shooting at all. A2 was an improvement in all regards over A1 and OFP in my opinion, but it didn´t go far enough too. I hope this will be remedied with A3, with BI pulling all the stops. New interface, improved AI, simulation of armour penetration and body armour, improved physics, etc, the whole list. I trust them though... in my opinion, they´ve just been a little too conservative. -
Was bored, and made this one. I have a whole host of Arma 3 styled TV ads in my head right now, as well as billboard ads in this style. :V Might make some more billboards in the future. Resolution is same as that on the screens on the A3 official webpage.

This. Proper HC AI would also make coop more interesting, because it would allow the AI to operate in a coordinated fashion: right now, all enemy units operate independently without any cooperation at all. Which makes it (usually, unless you´re heavily outnumbered or the enemy is very concentrated) relatively easy to defeat them when the player has access to HC.

Because in it´s league, it´s the ONLY game out there. Simply the only and single one: BI has no competition in this field, for better or for worse. The question isn´t "how good is this game" but "are you into this game". Can only decide for yourself. I am into this game. Are you?

PMC04: Transportation... BI, WTF were you thinking?
instagoat replied to OOPz's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
One of my mods (dunno which) causes the normally hidden command interface to disappear, so I was able to command Asano around. Helped a -lot- during this mission. Before I had access to that command menu, I didn´t enjoy the mission at all. Afterwards, more so. But it still felt a little railshooter-ish in the sense that you could survive certain situations only by running into them, dying and then re-doing them again in a different fashion. I´d expect a game like Tyrian 2K to play like that, but not Arma. In general, though, this mission was better than the ones before it, and the quality continues to increase right up til the end. -
The "Interesting Questions about the Game" thread, according to Instagoat

Wow, thank you for the reply! I really didn´t think that someone from BI would actually respond. Looking forward to the blog post! -

I really doubt that BI are going to dumb the game down... and assuming so because they´re letting their imagination run wild and put their artists to actual work instead of copying real life down to the last rivet is kind of far fetched. We´re talking about BIS here. Arma has problems: none of them are related to how the seams on the characters ammo pouches are true to their RL counterparts. What the game needs more urgently are other things, for example in the fields of AI coordination, damage depiction and simulation, and useable high-tech equipment that also works with/for the AI. For example, as an SP player, the glowsticks in ACE are completely pointless for me, unless some heavy scripting is involved. The AI also doesn´t communicate between squads, and generally operates in a complete deorganized fashion. But again, this is no reason to get rude at the devs or fellow forum members, and being a demanding dunce with a heightened sense of entitlement. Wait until they release some info, and constructively respond to it, instead of ragequitting the internets forever. -

I also hope that A3 won´t be A2 repacked as a 2025 mod, but instead actually will bring functionality into the new features it introduces, and enough polish to existing features to make them actually useable. Bullet proof vests would be awesome too, and I think the damage model has been fixed: now you can´t blow up tanks with rifle ammo anymore. A more detailed damage system for them would be nice though... Thing is, there is something such as making a constructive, helpful suggestion, and being straightout rude and demanding. Sometimes there´s a thin line there, but it helps to keep in mind that the people you´re adressing (The developers) probably know what they´re doing. If they´re doing it right or wrong, we´ll only see on release day. -
Damn BI, I just bought Reinforcements yesterday, now you tell me you have another thing out I need to buy? Heavens to betsy! :V I´m gonna get it as a present for my dad. Thanks for existing and continuing to make games. Cheers

That was me, with the "bad" ending being canonical. I regard the "bad" ending as that where the info gets out, which the subsequent news report says causes upheaval. Also, isn´t China one of Irans major weapons suppliers? Iran also has relatively good relationships with Russia, unless I´m completely mistaken.

I concur with the OP. Some people seem to have a large sense of entitlement, or generally think that BI doesn´t know wtf they´re doing. On top of that (though that, thankfully, has let off a bit) is the rivet counting, which isn´t helping either. People trying to be genuinely helpful I don´t mind, but all this "I demand this" and "That is wrong, take it out." talk is a bit grating. -
Beautiful units, I especially love the revamped textures on the vest. I might get slapped for this, but is there any chance of seeing these in UCP too?

If you could decide the author of A3 campaign
instagoat replied to dialektiikka's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Chances are Gaia is already involved with this. Although, what I´d love to see is Thobson being involved with this. The preset is already so similar to his abandoned armies: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=44651 So it´ll be a mix of WTWE and Abandoned Armies or something. -
If you could decide the author of A3 campaign

No wait. I just had the most amazing Idea. An original story. by Uwe Boll -
Hopefully we get the version with the extra stub wings too. Then we can make a comanche overkill campaign :D Tribute to the days when Novalogic was cool.

Myself. Because obviously I´m better than anybody else out there. If I can´t do it, Hideo Kojima. -
Am I the only one who disliked the futuristic approach?
instagoat replied to ray243's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
If Scott Miller is -anywhere near- as cool as Solid Snake, Arma will turn from a milsim with average storytelling into a WAR EPIC OF MAGNIFICIENT PROPORTIONS. You have to keep in mind that when Kojima set out to make MGS, he wanted to make a realistic (!) sneak spy game. Just look at the way snake handles the guns troughout the series, or how the actors move in the cutscenes. Then, back to gameplay. BI, please stop constraining yourself with this silly rivet counting at every corner, but focus instead on making the story, the characters, the setting, THE EVERYTHING great! This is your chance to outshine everything out there. Don´t settle for anything less than GOTY this time. You did it once, you can do it again. Doesn´t count for much, but you have my support Cheers -
Steel (ahem..take inspiration) from the popular mods!
instagoat replied to -=seany=-'s topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Way to make an already complicated game even MORE complicated. ACE was nice and fancy when it was out, but for my SP experience, I now prefer vanilla OA simply because I don´t want to put up with all the extra baggage the mod comes with. I´m largely against anything that can´t be implemented without increasing complexity in controls, or anything that´s a fringe function. If anything, the game needs to become LESS complex in terms of its controls to draw more of a crowd. Otherwise, the community might dry out even more in the coming five years. -
Did any of you manage this yet? I didn´t get trough Good Morning T-Stan without casualties due to the AI screwing up on the first ten tries or so. Pathfinder was much easier due to being in command, right now I´m at Coltan Blues. Difficulty is Veteran with AI skill set to max (super AI) and precision configged at .85. The challenge is to play trough the campaign without taking any casualties at all in your own squad. I dare thee, BI forums :O Cheers Instagoat

Pre-announcement ARG answers to questions discussion

Anyone else is afraid what ArmA III is going to do to the addons scene?
instagoat replied to Altimeter's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I think there will be new people coming in with Arma 3, but there´ll be not as many people as before in total, and the scene probably won´t last as long for several reasons. Firstly, increased complexity of developing addons in a time where people have less and less spare time on their hands to fully dedicate to time consuming mod work. Especially when the work is so time consuming and comprehensive that development time for mods isn´t in the range of months or a single year, but multiple years unless a large amount of people get together... and even THEN, mod work is slow. It´s either that, or low quality. Secondly, the lack of documentation, which has been named as a problem by several members of this community before. I´ve barely scraped the surface, but for example, I couldn´t even figure out how to do reskins from the info that was available on the biki and elsewhere. Lastly, general short-livedness of games in this day and age. People buy a title, play the campaign, play the missions, and unless they immediately get drawn by the community, ditch the game after a comparatively short time of about two or three months. People NEED to be aware of the existence of this community, RIGHT AWAY WHEN GETTING THE GAME. This is important, otherwise a lot of people won´t even know that there is more to A3 than just the basic content it´s delivered with, and a fancy, complex and probably again, poorly documented mission editor. We have to rely on third parties, such as Mr. Murrays editing bible, to learn how to use the Editor. This should not be! To sustain and revive the modding scene once A3 kicks off, modding has to be made easier in general, more easy to get into by means of comprehensive documentation, and quicker by simplifying config work or similar things. My two cents. -
I agree with those points completely. The "realistic" part of Arma/OFP has always been the combat itself. Partially, to the point of being unfair to the player (like the AK snipers in OFP). The gear never has been accurate to the last nut and bolt. Just think of the US soldiers in Armed Assault: they were originally meant to be USMC, which is evident from the cover of the officer, and the fact that the Uniform itself doesn´t have the velcro of the actual ACU. It´s Marines with an UCP texture. Then Arma 2, where you get Russian soldiers using AK-107s and other tidbits like the XM8s, which were expanded upon in PMC. SCARs for the US Army in OA. Etc. The whole discussion about this tank being unrealistic and that kit being wrong is completely moot, as long as the gameplay at the heart of the OFP/Arma series remains unchanged. Every gun shoots, every helicopter flies, every missle explodes. Wether the missle is from 1973 or 2015 -really- doesn´t matter, unless you like an older setting as a matter of personal preferrence.

I would love for the AI to actually dynamically breach and clear each building without the need for special scriptwork under the hood. All buildings have had "positions" inside ever since OFP, which would -theoretically- allow them to work trough the positions one by one in a pre-planned manner to clear the house. I don´t know why this hasn´t been implemented yet... probably because telling the AI when and how to do this is complicated or even impossible? Anyway, CQB with the AI, since the latest patch, has actually been decent. The only thing that -really- is lacking is coordination, carefulness and yes, the lack of their abillity to work inside of buildings. A solution to this deficiency, in any shape or form, would be very much welcomed by me.
