this topic has inspired me to post this from a car forum. its a simple question, before computers, before mobile phones, before forums and other electronic gadgetry, what did you do for fun? could you live without a pc now? So to get the ball rolling, my reply to the original thread away from here was this.... i used to actually drive my car! that was before i got a computer, and before that i used to spend countless hours sat in a wooded area or a field with a rifle. now i'm not so enthusiastic. i'm nowhere near as physically fit as i was. and i'm 50X more boring! could i do without a computer now? probably but its got to be harder than kicking crack. the interwebz is a really strong drug! i'd have more chance quitting smoking than quitting computing!

best bet....as said above, use the Beta's and or... dont start pc with disk in. take disk out before booting ;)

no full screen bud. not had chance to check it since i swapped HDMI ports, will do tomorrow and come back with results, i just hope its not damaged my graphics card, the steel shroud came completely off in the back of the TV set leaving all the connector pins exposed and touching each other. apart from all this the comp seems to work as it did before. i really need to check this out properly

QFT! not sure if the folk outside the UK know this but here is a little insight to how we have to live our life, and i think this might appeal to jake?... this thread however isn't about this its a slight derailment. we have no right to defend our property! if we are home and someone breaks in (home invasion) we simply have to let them take what they want and go, we have to call the cops (who will respond sometime in the next day or so? if however we get hold of said invader and detain him till the cops arrive then the invader can legaly file for unlawful inprisonment. if the invader is violent we can use nessery force to bring down the attacker but then we will be charged with assualt. we could roll over and let said attacker beat us to a pulp and hope the law can find this attacker, but then he will only do maybe 6 months inside. if we attack the invader we would get something like 2-3 years inside, half it for good behavior. this is how this country is. i fully condon how the system works in the states, yet there maybe a few over trigger happy folk there? except this lady who shot a home invader while on the phone to 911 http://www.3si.org/forum/redirect-to/?redirect=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.newsok.com%2Fmultimedia%2Fvideo%2F54313835001 this should be right for every house across the world. we should be able to defend our properties.

where i agree whole heartedly on your responses, the grim reality is that unless war is declared over in every country its taking place in, then it will continue to happen or even escalate. even if the allied forces pull out of iraq and afghan even africa and down arms, doesn't mean the conflicts there will ever come to a head. those countries unfortunately have no other way of life. so although negotiations are possible and still happening to bring peace the peace agreement will never happen. see the problem is, each nation that takes part in these skirmishes will hold a grudge. ie: iraq will never forgive the allied forces for killing innocents in air raids, so they will always be bitter. afghan will never forgive the allied forces simply for creating dust and not taking thier side. afrika will always be bitter no matter what. the United States will never forgive what happened on 9/11. the UK will never forgive simply because they have turned into a comunist state. the UN will never forgive what they can't understand. so its almost a stalemate right across the board. basically the U.S want the oil thats below afghan and iraq, the UK was quick to follow suit. see if these two allies took control of the major oil fields then they have basically check mate on the world. some say its nothing to do with oil, but its come to light recently that Sadam declared all weapons of mass distruction, destroyed/defunkt a week prior to the invasion. there were ships sailing round in the sea nearby, the whole time the war escalated in iraq. once the war was inhand (never won) and sadam was captured, these ships went missing without a trace. the same thing is happening in afghan. and once the allies take complete control they will then control most of the world. see the hard part is.........nothing will ever change. Obama binladen U.S president could have pulled the troops clean out. Bush was just like his father ( a war monger), thing is Bush knew something about afghan and iraq, this info has been passed on to the new president and he's hands are tied. purely because when put in power greed takes hold! as long as there is greed in the world there will never be peace. no matter the amount of negotiating it will never win a countries wealth, this you have to fight for and they have to defend. its sad really but true.

i wonder how many times this subject has been brought up over the last 1000 years? has anything changed? no! it never will! a simple fact of the matter is we are killing machines and i would argue that even a herbivore is a killing machine, how? plants also live until plucked and cooked! so no nothing will change and certainly not in any of our lifetimes! what the best part is that the UK/U.S and UN are fighting for peace!? killing to establish peace...its a contradiction in terms. also if you think about it, even this forum isn't peaceful. one mans wish is another mans hate etc, its just the way we are. once everyone agree's on the same subject no matter what it is then there will be no more conflict. but at the same time there will always be someone that wants more, that person will be the one to upset the realms once again, unfortunately its a never ending viscious circle.

yeah its a luxury we dont have here. and our luxuries are getting less by the year. i'd estimate that in 10 years time (unless something changes) the people of the UK will be kept like prisoners with no passtimes, just work and sleep, anything more and we would be breaking the law.

i agree completely with the above two replies. the government are slowly trying to get all weapons banned. why? i have no clue purely because the legally owned weapons are kept and used in the safest of manners, it isn't the legally owned weapons that are causing the problem, its the ilegally own weapons that are doing damage almost daily. it can be said or argued that IF legally owned weapons don't exist then the thieves of such weapons wont exist. but the main problem with that is that most illegal weapons are either imported or modyfied here to fire live ammo. personally i wouldn't have either. why fuel the fire thats burning out of control already?. i can also understand in a way about the gun toys for sale in the OP being banned for sale to private buyers but what the home office fail to understand that these weapons are unable to be modyfied to fire live rounds. they are made of zinc mainly and would shatter with the force of a live round. so what are we left with? well i'm too old to join the forces although i can't say i didn't try over and over again when i was younger (my right eye failed me). so joining the TA is also a no option for the same reasons (its all down the the pure right handed SA80). so someone like me who is an avid history fan and one that so desperately tried to enlist has an option left!.... Military Re-enactment!. could be expensive but its a hobby that would keep me fit or gimme heart attack, also i get to play the roles 101st airborn, 29th infantry etc across the UK and france. seems good and i get to play with weapons of that decade/era.

i read the first post by the OP and thats it! this is aimed at the U.S and Nato and tbh its not a very well thought about topic or first post! war will continue as it has for 1000's of years, Mankind is a killing machine it always was especially because we are carnivores, so if we aint out killing livestock to survive we are out killing each other over a patch of land or possesion. some kill for religious beliefs. so its not just U.S/UK/NATO its a way of life! so i voted for#2 never because its just the way things are.

haha guns bring no harm to another human unless held by an idiot. i used to compete against the trigger happy posse (armed police) in police pistol contests at the local gun club many years ago. some cant shoot for toffee and tbh the way some of those guys regard guns i personally wouldn't trust them with a spud gun! but that was a long time ago things have probably changed, even still back then it was good to mingle with the armed section of the law. some good stories went on in the lounge area, we had a good laugh :)

aint that the truth! sadly i never was one to go for airsoft not sure why? maybe because when they was released a few year back, i was heavy into customising air rifles and having the ability to humainly dispatch a rabbit at over 150yd. or a fox at over 50yd. especially when firing a .22 bullet head 40grn at over 1300fps. from a precharged air rifle. sadly even all that stopped. so now i dont bother :( tell me about it! i have many good friends over in the states that make me jealous on a daily basis lol.

good question, one i cant answer but it seems a daft command unless a new command was added 'retreat' to make the AI fall back quickly ;)

hmm.....bugger! right i better start checkin this tv/vid card out fatherinlaw knocked it off the stand last sat, it broke the HDMI cable end. i hope its not damaged the vid card.

thanks for the reply BullDogs, yes the refresh rate is set right, and i'm using the Beta patches, i guess if you get it also than it must be something o do with the patches? it doesn't happen in vanilla 1.04. and i can just barely see the wording 'Recieving...' by the time its flipped to menu page. menu dulls out if i leave it. i think? but it certainly happens ingame. find a dark spot on a daylight map and it fades to almost black in seconds. move or bring sights up it comes back to normal but not as quick as your would like. enough delay to get shot. hey its kinda like having a tired char.. found a quiet spot and closes his eyes slowly.

i dont get the fall back unless retreating from a position, but the others i dont mind, its kind of different veriety. the 'FALL BACK' is a retreat command. if we are all heading the same direction towards enemy we aint exactly falling back :P

Ludo has valid points. folk say women are not allowed on the frontlines yet i can throw a link to a site dedicated to fem soldiers. no military would send soft sided trucks onto the frontlines. yet supply trucks and salvage trucks roam freely around the map, even behind enemy lines. so why shouldn't female soldiers be implicated? people argue the fact about facts of RL military vs the sim, yet the sim has many flaws that wouldn't be had in RL military. sorry anfiach cant read your reply. nor do i wish too.
